WPW Startime Saturday - December 16 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- "Machines Of
Hate" by Fear Factory played in the background of a short fast paced
montage of WPW action to open the show.
We headed to Michael Cole and the WPW Commissioner, Ric Flair at
ringside. Cole and Flair welcomed us to
the show. Tonight we've got a six man
tag as Al Snow, Steve Blackman and Dean Malenko take on Brian Christopher and
T&A. Kidman will face Kaz Hayashi
and in our Main Event, Chris Benoit faces Eddy Guerrero in what should be a
great match. We'll also look back at
last week's WPW Sunday Night and preview tommorow night's show. In addition to that Scott Hudson will be in
the WPW Control Center to talk about the next Pay-Per-View. Hudson will be joined by The Acolytes this
week. All that and more in this
jam-packed hour of WPW action... Opening Match: Al Snow & Steve Blackman & Dean
Malenko v. T&A & Brian Christopher.
"Change" by Deftones blared through the speakers as the team
of Al Snow, 'The Lethal Weapon' Steve Blackman, and 'The Shooter' Dean Malenko
headed out to the ring first. Then,
"Shock" by Fear Factory blared over the speakers as Trish Stratus led
her team of T&A and Brian Christopher to the ring. These six men got into a couple weeks ago on
WPW Sunday Night. Some good solid back
and forth action between the two teams.
The ending would see Christopher send Blackman into the ropes but
Blackman came off with the Jumping Front Kick on Christopher. Test came in and drilled Blackman with a kick
to the face. Al Snow came in and hit a
clothesline on Test sending both men to the floor. Dean Malenko came in and nailed Christopher
with a leg lariat then Albert came in and drilled Malenko with an Albert
Bomb! Christopher and Blackman got up at
the same time and Christopher drilled Blackman with a superkick. Albert held Blackman as Christopher went up
top and nailed the Tennessee Jam for the one, two, three! T&A and Brian Christopher take the win in
six man tag team action. WINNERS: T&A and Brian Christopher in 5:32. Rating: * 1/2 We went to a
highlight package reviewing what went down last week on WPW Sunday Night. The show began with Chris Jericho, Goldberg,
Triple H and Kurt Angle all ranting on eachother until Ric Flair came out and
signed Triple H to defend against Goldberg at Power Struggle and Jericho to
face Angle in a #1 Contenders Match.
Flair also put the four men in a Fatal Fourway, non-title match in the
Main Event. Masato Tanaka and Mike
Awesome beat The Lowdown in the opener.
Sting came out and appeared to be talking himself into retiring when
Eddy Guerrero rudely interrupted an emotional Sting then the LWO laid out
Sting. Scotty Taylor retained the WPW TV
Title over Jamie Howard. The Elite
wondered where Foley was. Juvy and Papi
beat the Jung Dragons. Booker T was
interviewed and slapped by Kidman. Sting
beat Chavo Guerrero Jr. then was laid out again by the LWO. The Acolytes lost a World Tag Team Titles
match to The Hardy Boyz when Sinister Minister shot a fireball at Faarooq. Booker T retained the WPW I-C Title over Ken
Shamrock with an assist from 'The Crippler'.
Mick Foley arrived then came out to address his situation with Ric
Flair. Foley put his company on the line
for one, winner takes all, match with Flair at Power Struggle. Flair came out and accepted then Foley showed
us a restraining order against Flair until Jan. 6th. The Fatal Fourway Main Event was won by Chris
Jericho after he pinned Kurt Angle with the Lionsault. Jericho's hand was raised victorious to end
the show... We went to some
pre-recorded comments from Kidman... Kidman:
"Right here on the debut of Startime Saturday, the brightest
shining star in World Professional Wrestling, Kidman will showcase his
superstar skills against Kaz Hayashi.
Hayashi, while you may be impressive you're no Kidman and that'll be
proved here tonight." Match #2: Kaz Hayashi v. Kidman. "Somebody Someone" by KoRn brought
the leader of the Jung Dragons, Kaz Hayashi out to the ring first. Then, "Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit
blared over the speakers as The Elite's Kidman made his way out to the
ring. Ric Flair dished out some of his
usual insults towards Kidman on commentary during this one. This was a really good fast paced, high
flying match between Kaz Hayashi and Kidman.
Kidman has been more grounded lately fighting bigger men but we saw the
daredevil Kidman against Kaz Hayashi as the two traded high flying moves. The ending would see Kidman catch Hayashi
with a reverse DDT. Kidman went up top
and came off with a flying elbowdrop but Hayashi rolled out of the way. Hayashi hit a northern lights suplex for
two. Hayashi then hit a frankensteiner
on Kidman, went out to the apron and came in with the Slingshot DDT but Kidman
moved. Kidman picked up Hayashi and went
for a swinging bulldog but Hayashi threw him off then went for a dropkick but
Kidman caught his legs and would slingshot Kaz into the corner. Kidman caught Kaz with a spinebuster bomb
then went up top and hit the Shooting Star Press for the one, two, and three on
Hayashi! Kidman is victorious here on
Startime Saturday! WINNER: Kidman in 7:10. Rating: *** 3/4 We headed to the
WPW Control Center with Scott Hudson.
Hudson hyped up WPW Power Struggle on Jan. 6th from MSG. The matches we know so far are Triple H
defending the WPW World Heavyweight Title against Goldberg, Mick Foley facing
Ric Flair for control of WPW and Chris Jericho against Kurt Angle for a World
Title shot at WPW Revenge in February.
Hudson then welcomed in The Acolytes.
Faarooq was sporting a bandage on his forehead from getting burned. Faarooq went off about how he thought the
feud with The Unholy Alliance was over but it looks like they'll have to hand
them another ass whipping. Bradshaw said
that The Unholy Alliance likes to play with fire, they like to burned things
but they're the ones that are going to get burned. Faarooq said Tajiri and Whipwreck could've
moved on but they chose to cost them a World Tag Team Titles match on WPWSN so
they'll get their asses handed to them, Acolytes style. Bradshaw said that The Unholy Alliance jumped
on them for the last time and they'll settle this within the confines of a
STEEL CAGE at Power Struggle. We went to some
pre-recorded comments from 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit... Chris Benoit:
"I'd like to make something perfectly clear to Ken Shamrock, to The
Elite and to everyone in WPW. When you
look at The Crippler, you don't see any remorse because I don't have any. You don't see any compassion, because I have
none. I don't need a sense of humor
because when I step through those ropes it's bad news for my opponent. The Crippler isn't a gimmick. It isn't a nickname. It's a style.
It's my style because I'll cripple you in a second. Eddy Guerrero, we've had battles all across
the world, we've been friends at times but in that ring, I have no friends and
with your attitude lately, I wouldn't want to be your friend. Guerrero, I know you'll give me a great match
but tonight, The Crippler comes out on top." We then cut to
some pre-recorded comments from Eddy Guerrero. Eddy Guerrero:
"The Latino World Order is showing the world what we're made of,
man. Chris Benoit, great wrestler,
you're going to lose tonight to Eddy Guerrero because I don't tolerate
losing. We win at all costs and you say,
The Crippler will come out on top? Well
I say you're gonna be looking up at the lights, man when I drop the Frog Splash
on you for the one, two, THREE! Then
it's ALL OVER for you, BENOIT!" Main Event: Eddy Guerrero v. Chris Benoit. "La Raza" hit as the leader of the
Latino World Order, Eddy Guerrero made his way out to the ring first as chants
of "EDDY SUCKS! EDDY SUCKS!"
filled the arena. Then the jeers turned
to cheers as "Surfacing" by Slipknot blasted over the loudspeakers
and 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit made his way out to the ring. Benoit and Guerrero locked up with Benoit
sending Guerrero into the ropes and going for a lariat but Guerrero countered
it with a crucifix for one. Guerrero hit
Benoit with a leg lariat then a snap suplex.
Guerrero slapped his chest and wiped his sweat onto Benoit. Guerrero bounced off the ropes and went for a
dropkick but Benoit moved. Benoit picked
up Guerrero and slammed him down. Benoit
hit a snap suplex of his own then dropped a leg for two. Benoit went for a dragon suplex but Guerrero
countered it with a back elbow then a go-behind but Benoit hit some elbows then
went behind Guerrero and hit a german suplex for two. Benoit went up top but Guerrero cut him off
and hit a superplex. Guerrero followed
that up with a slingshot somersault senton for two. Guerrero tried a Gory Special but Benoit
fought it off then laid into Guerrero with some hard chops. This great match between two of the best
wrestlers in WPW continued until Benoit went for the dragon suplex but Guerrero
escaped, Benoit reversed and rolled Guerrero up for two. Guerrero dropkicked Benoit sending him to the
outside then hit a plancha. Guerrero
rolled Benoit back into the ring and hit a german suplex for two. Guerrero followed that up with a fisherman
suplex for another near fall. Guerrero
went up top and came off with a crossbody but Benoit turned it into a powerslam! Guerrero rolled out to the floor holding his
midsection. The referee went out to
check on him and Papi Chulo hit the ring but Benoit caught him with a
lariat! Juvy came off the top but Benoit
side stepped him! Chavo then nailed
Benoit from behind with a forearm, Chavo bounced off the ropes but Benoit
picked him up and dumped him out of the ring onto Eddy! Benoit went out and rolled Guerrero into the
ring and locked him in the Crippler Crossface!
Chavo put Eddy's foot on the bottom rope and pointed it out to the
referee, who made Benoit break the hold!
The Hardy Boyz then Sting hit ringside taking care of the LWO. Benoit argued with the referee and Eddy hit a
Gory Special 2000. Guerrero went up to
the rope. On the outside, Chavo sent
Sting into the ring post which made Guerrero crotch himself on top. Benoit went up and hit a spine-crushing
gutwrench superplex on Guerrero! Benoit
then locked in the Crippler Crossface!
Guerrero struggled but Benoit clamped it on full force! Guerrero taps out! Eddy tapped out! Chris Benoit has won this great match. A grueling, hard-fought match from both men. WINNER: Chris Benoit in 14:25. Rating: **** 1/4 We then preview
tommorow night's WPW Sunday Night as The Acolytes face T&A, Chavo Guerrero
Jr faces Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit will speak, Masato Tanaka and Mike Awesome
go up against Al Snow & Steve Blackman, we'll take a special look at Mick
Foley's wrestling career and he'll speak from his home in Long Island, Sting
will get Eddy Guerrero and whole lot more tommorow on WPW Sunday Night! WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - December 17 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- We went back to
earlier today as Booker T, the WPW Intercontinental Champion, arrived at the
arena. Booker T was confronted by Kidman
then jumped by Triple H, Kurt Angle, and Ken Shamrock. The Elite beat down Booker T and left him in
a heap before WPW officials restrained them... We then cut live
to Booker T walking through a hallway in the arena holding his head. Booker T pounded on a door then barged in, it
was the office of WPW Commissioner, Ric Flair.
Booker T demanded to face The Elite tonight, whatever type of match, he
wants The Elite in that ring tonight.
Ric Flair told Booker T to go find three partners because he's got
himself an eight man tag team match here tonight on WPW Sunday Night... "Spit It
Out" by Slipknot played in the background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2
graphic comes up on the screen then fades away but not completely as a fast
paced montage of WPW action including; Masato Tanaka hitting the Roaring Elbow
on Mike Awesome, Al Snow smashing away at Sting's arm with a chair, Booker T
drilling Kurt Angle with a Neckwrecker, The Acolytes putting Jeff Hardy through
a table, the LWO beating down an opponent, Ken Shamrock with the Ankle Lock on
Triple H, Mike Awesome with an Over-The-Top-Rope Awesome Bomb, Kidman pinning
Ric Flair, Sting hitting the Scorpion Death Drop on Al Snow, Kurt Angle with
all his gold, Chris Benoit raising the King Of Kings trophy, The Hardy Boyz
with the Twist Of Fate and Swanton Bomb, Triple H hitting the Pedigree on
Goldberg, Chris Jericho hitting a Lionsault on Goldberg, Goldberg spearing
Jericho, Mick Foley hitting Goldberg in the head with a chair and much, much
more. The WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo
fades back into full then explodes... We were welcomed
to the show by Scott Hudson and Jerry 'The King' Lawler as they hyped up the
Main Event and wondered who Booker T will get as partners. We then were sent to the ring for action... Opening Match: T&A v. The Acolytes. "Shock" by Fear Factory blared over
the speakers as Trish Stratus led her team of T&A out to the ring for our
first matchup here on WPW Sunday Night.
Then "Ironman" by Black Sabbath blasted through the speakers
as The Acolytes headed out to the ring.
This was an all power matchup between four of the biggest and toughest
brawlers in WPW. The ending would see
Test went for a diving powerbomb on Bradshaw but Bradshaw countered it with a
backdrop then went for the Clothesline From Hell. Test ducked and Albert pulled down the top
rope sending Bradshaw to the floor. Test
distracted the referee as Tajiri ran out and spit mist into the eyes of
Bradshaw then Albert nailed him with a chair and rolled Bradshaw into the ring. Faarooq ran around the ring and brawled with
Tajiri while Test went up top and nailed the Flying Elbowdrop on Bradshaw for
the one, two, and three! T&A pick up
the win over The Acolytes thanks to some help from Tajiri! WINNERS: T&A in 4:23. Rating: * Backstage: -We followed Booker T as he entered a dressing room and
inside was Chris Benoit. Booker T said
he's looking for three partners to take on The Elite tonight and he knows
Benoit wants a piece of Shamrock. Benoit
agreed to be a partner of Booker T's tonight and get some of Shamrock and The
Elite... "My
Hero" by Foo Fighters sounded as 'The Olympic Gold Medalist' Kurt Angle
emerged from the entrance with a microphone.
Angle walked down into the ring... Kurt Angle:
"Your Olympic Gold Medalist has arrived! There's a foul mouthed, long blond haired,
punk rock liking, trash talking loser wakling around here by the name of 'Y2J'
Chris Jericho. Jericho claims to be a
role model but nothing could be further from then truth. A role model is a man that trained day in and
day out for his entire life, overcame all the odds and won the Olympic Gold
Medal in 1996. Now that's a role model,
it's true, it's true. Chris Jericho is
not a role model and I ask all the parents in the audience to shield their
children from the negative influence that is 'Y2J'. Chris, in just a few short weeks at Power
Struggle we face off in a Number One Contenders match and after Triple H
defeats Goldberg we will have an-all Elite World Heavyweight Title mega-match
at WPW Rampage in February, and that is the way it should be, and that is
TRUE!" '5..4..3..2..1' "Y2J" Chris Jericho emerged from the entrance
interrupting Kurt Angle. Jericho had a
microphone in hand... Chris Jericho:
"Welcome to SUNDAY NIGHT JERICHO!
I'd be remissed if I let your little rant go unanswered, Kirk
Angel. I'd like to tell you all the
reasons why when I step through that curtain all of my Jericholics cheer me and
boo you. These people pay to cheer or
boo whoever they want and they don't like people that tell them what they
should or should not do. Kirk Angel, the
reason that these people do NOT cheer you is because week after week, month
after month, you come out here and tell them how great you are, tell them how
you won the Olympic Gold Medal, how you've never been laid, how you're the
biggest dork in all of wrestling, and how you'll never eh...eh...EVER be on the
level of 'Y2J' Chris Jericho. On the
other hand, Y2J comes out here and does what he wants and makes idiots like
you, SHUT THE HELL UP! So these great
people don't have to listen to YOU! And
as for Power Struggle goes, there will be no struggle, it will just be a Y2J
beating on your ass, Kirk. Oh and one
more thing, Booker T, you've got yourself another partner in Y2J!" Match #2: Chavo Guerrero Jr. v. Dean Malenko. "La Raza" sounded as Chavo Guerrero
Jr. of the LWO made his way out to the ring for our next match. Then, "Change" by Deftones brought
out the former multiple time WPW Television Champion, 'The Shooter' Dean
Malenko to the ring. This would be a
solid back and forth technical wrestling match between Chavo and Dean. The closing moments of the match would see
Malenko hit a tiger suplex for two.
Malenko took Chavo up top for a superplex but Chavo shoved him down then
hit a crossbody but Malenko rolled through for a two count. Malenko went for the Texas Cloverleaf but
Chavo rolled him up for another near fall.
Malenko went for a tiger driver but Chavo countered it with a sunset
flip but Malenko stood out of it and grabbed Chavo's legs. Chavo kicked Malenko off into the
corner. Chavo tried to whip Malenko
across the ring but Malenko reversed it then charged in but Chavo countered it
with an uppercut then nailed the Tornado DDT on Malenko! Chavo covered for the one, two, three! Chavo Guerrero Jr. scores a hard fought win
over The Shooter. WINNER: Chavo Guerrero Jr. in 4:59. Rating: ** 3/4
"Surfacing" by Slipknot blasted through the loudspeakers as
'The Crippler' Chris Benoit walked out to the ring and took a microphone... Chris Benoit:
"If I could have a few minutes of your time there's something that
I'd like to get off my chest. Ken
Shamrock, two weeks ago at Holiday Hell, I stepped into your world and I had
you beat, there's no denying it. If it
wasn't for that foreign object then I would've SNAPPED your neck in the
Crossface. Don't forget that,
Shamrock. Shamrock, you may be the
'Worlds Most Dangerous Man' but I am 'The Crippler' and every man can be
CRIPPLED! Ken Shamrock, I stepped into
your world and now you're going to step into my world. You're going to walk into my training ground,
my proving ground, my domain, the DUNGEON.
That's right, I want you one-on-one in the cold, hard, unforgiving Dungeon
of Stu Hart. Let's see how you fair in
the place where real men survive and posers are left behind."
"Stress" by Godsmack played as Ken Shamrock walked out onto
the stage with a cocky grin on his face. Ken Shamrock:
"Chris Benoit, why don't you just give it up? I mean, I showed the world at Holiday Hell
that you're nothing more then my bitch.
I choked the life out of you one time and I'll come into your silly
Dungeon and I'll show you that the Dungeon is a joke, you are a joke and I am
the only legit killer in WPW!" Chris Benoit:
"Legit? You lost your
credibility when you jumped to 'The Elite' and if you want to go? Then let's go." Ken Shamrock:
"I'm a nice man so I'll let you off without a beating
tonight." Shamrock turns and walks to the back as Benoit shakes his
head. Backstage: -We would see Papi Chulo and Juventud Guerrera entering a
door, the door swung back and it read 'aPa' as we cut to break... Match #3: Latino World Order v. The Unholy Alliance. "La Raza" sounded as Papi Chulo and
Juventud Guerrera of the Latino World Order came out for this tag team match to
determine who will challenge the WPW World Tag Team Champions at Power
Struggle. Then "Bombtrack" by
Rage Against The Machine blared over the PA as Sinister Minister led Tajiri and
Mikey Whipwreck, The Unholy Alliance out to the ring. The match got underway for a few moments
before "Ironman" by Black Sabbath sounded and The Acolytes came out
to ringside. The Acolytes didn't get
involved but the distraction caused The Unholy Alliance to lose focus on the
match. The ending would see Tajiri hit a
baseball slide dropkick in the corner on Papi Chulo. Tajiri went for the Brain Buster but Papi
dropped down the back and went for a rollup but Tajiri grabbed the ropes. Bradshaw cracked Tajiri in the head with a
right hand and Chulo cradled him up for the one, two, thr ... NO! Tajiri kicked out! Tajiri shouted at Bradshaw while Papi made a
tag to Juvy. Juvy came in and when
Tajiri turned around, Juvy caught him with a Juvy Driver! Juvy covered as Faarooq tripped up
Whipwreck. ONE! TWO! THREE! The Latino World Order will go onto challenge
the WPW World Tag Team Champions at Power Struggle with some paid for
distraction from the aPa. WINNERS: Latino World Order in 6:24. Rating: *** 1/4 Afterwards, The Acolytes pounded on The Unholy Alliance
some more before leaving... Backstage: -We saw a shot of Goldberg stretching his neck and arms
in his dressing room when Booker T walked in.
Booker T said that he needs one more man to against The Elite here
tonight and he wants Goldberg on his team.
Goldberg asked if Triple H will be in this match and Booker T said yes,
four on four. Goldberg accepted the
offer saying it'll be nice to pound on Triple H tonight... -Michael Cole then entered the locker room of The Elite
telling them that Goldberg will team with Booker T, Chris Jericho and Chris
Benoit against them later tonight.
Triple H spoke first saying that Goldberg will regret his decision and
he'll give him a taste of Power Struggle.
Kidman said that while Foley may not be here tonight that doesn't mean
that they can't and won't foil one more of Ric Flair's plans. Match #4: Al Snow & Steve Blackman v. Masato Tanaka
& Mike Awesome. "What Is Fight
Club?" by Dust Brothers brought out the team of Al Snow and Steve Blackman
to the ring. Then, "Awesome"
by Reckless Fortune sounded as Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka headed out to the
ring. Tanaka and Awesome continued their
teaming this week and turned in another great performance. During this match, T&A would come out
onto the ramp and watch. The ending
would see Snow hit a superkick on Awesome but Awesome shook it off and hit Snow
with a lariat. Awesome made a tag to
Tanaka. Awesome would whip Snow into the
ropes then move as Tanaka caught Snow with the ROARING ELBOW! Awesome took care of Blackman as Tanaka got
the three count on Snow! Tanaka and
Awesome take another good win. T&A
didn't seem too impressed, however but just walked to the back after the match. WINNERS: Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka in 3:06. Rating: * We then went to a
special video package detailing the career of Mick Foley ... Michael Francis
Foley was born on June 7, 1965, on East Setauket, Long Island, N.Y., the son of
an athletic director and a teacher (who became a full-time mom). Upon graduating
from Ward Melville High School, Foley enrolled at the State University of New
York at Cortland in upstate New York. A lifelong wrestling fan who once
hitchhiked to Madison Square Garden to see Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka
take on Don Muraco in a steel cage, the seeds of his future career were planted
while he was a college student. In September 1985, Mick met former World
Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champion Dominic DeNucci through a Long Island
wrestling promoter. Still in college, Mick in early 1986 began driving 400
miles from Cortland to Freedom, Pa., each weekend to train at DeNucci's school.
He would sleep in the back of his car and eat peanut butter sandwiches to save
money. After months of training and working in independent promotions (where he
competed as Cactus Jack), Mick got the opportunity to work at a few World
Wrestling Federation television tapings -- and to be squashed by well-known
Federation Superstars, including the British Bulldog. He wrestled under his
real name and was what can politely be called an "enhancement
talent." For fear that he would become a full-time jobber, Mick began
declining invitations to attend TV tapings when fans started recognizing
him. In the summer of 1990, Mick was
handing out flyers for an upcoming independent show he would be wrestling in on
Long Island when he met a beautiful model named Colette Christie. It was the
woman he would go on to marry. Over the
years Mick competed as Cactus Jack all over the world -- mainly in Africa and
Japan -- and also in WCW and ECW. Cactus Jack represents the most sick, the
most twisted, the most delusional side of Mick Foley's personality. The "Cactus Jack" character has
been around for years. Foley then picked the fictitious hometown of Truth or
Consequences, New Mexico, which he says fit the character like a glove. Soon
after, he added his famous catchphrase "Bang bang!" to the mix.
Working in Texas, Japan, and everywhere in between, Foley gained a reputation
as a Hardcore superstar. Knowing that he didn't have the traditional wrestling
look, his deranged and maniacal attitude set him apart from the pack. Indeed,
Cactus Jack was known worldwide for his toughness and his daring ways. In 1996, the day after WrestleMania XII, he
made his debut in the Federation as Mankind.
Since then, he's been Mankind, Dude Love and Cactus Jack winning
numerous WWF Championships along the way.
On February 27, 2000, the career of the "Three Faces of Foley" came to an end when
Foley, as Cactus Jack, put his career on the line for a chance at the main
event at WrestleMania. When Triple H pinned Cactus after a brutal Hell in a
Cell bout, Cactus left the WWF forever, as did Mankind and Dude Love. It was later that year that Mick Foley
created World Professional Wrestling.
However, we didn't know that until September when Foley revealed himself
as the Owner of WPW. As Mick Foley he
isn't the hardcore brawler Cactus Jack, the maniac Mankind or the fun-loving
Dude Love, as Mick Foley, WPW Owner he is hated by fans for his money first
attitude and selfishness. Mick Foley
steps back into the ring nearly one year after his Retirement to fight for
control of his company... We then went to
the home of WPW Owner, Mick Foley in Long Island, New York where Foley had some
words... Mick Foley:
"Nearly one year after I wrestled my last match, I am going to step
back into the ring. I'm not stepping
back into the ring for a championship or a petty feud, I'm stepping into the
ring to take complete control of my company.
*MY* company. MY COMPANY! Over the course of my career I've been put
through tables, I've been thrown on concrete, I've been set on fire, I've been
wrapped in barbed wire, I've been hits with chairs, bats, sledgehammers, the
list goes on, and I've been thrown from a death-defying height twice in one
match and none of it could keep me down.
I've always said that I couldn't jump high so I jumped off high
places. The man that I am facing for
control of my company is my parallel opposite.
A natural born wrestler, a natural born athlete, a man with undeinable
skill and grace but also a man that I have never faced. Our paths have crossed, when he overlooked me
many years ago and refused to work with me.
Why? I think he was afraid for
his own safety and I don't blame him.
People wonder will our match be a brawl, a crazy brawl or will it be a
wrestling match? If I have my way, I
won't go through tables, I won't get hit with chairs, barbed wire, bats, fire,
whatever. Those extreme elements that I
am known for will not come into play unless I chose to inflict further
suffering on my opponent because this match is not about making an impact or a
name. In many matches, it doesn't matter
who wins or loses as long as you make an impact but in this match I must win
because an egotistical over-the-hill playboy is trying to take it from under
me. This fine promotion should be built
around the Triple H's, Kurt Angle's, Kidman's and Ken Shamrock's while the
Goldberg's, Booker T's, Sting's, Chris Benoit's and Chris Jericho's should be
nothing more then enhancement talent for those aforementioned names. January 6th in Madison Square Gardens, I will
fight the biggest battle of my career and I will walk out with complete control
of World Professional Wrestling and my opponent, he will learn never to underestimate
or undermine Mick Foley again because I will leave Ric Flair a bloody, beaten,
battered, and unemployed mess." Match #5: Eddy Guerrero v. Sting. We returned to the ring as "La
Raza" brought the hated leader of the LWO, Eddy Guerrero out to the ring
for this grudge match. Then, "Seek
And Destroy" sounded as Sting headed out to the ring. Sting went right to work on Guerrero with
right hands and chops. Sting sent Eddy
into the ropes and hit a gorilla press slam.
Guerrero quickly bailed to the outside to slow things down. This match continued on for several minutes
with Sting mainly on the offense while Guerrero stalled and tried to keep away
from Sting. The ending would see Sting
for a Stinger Splash but Guerrero moved and hit a side suplex. Guerrero went up top for the Frog Splash but
Sting rolled out of the ring. Sting hit
a Stinger Splash, a second and a third.
Sting then locked Guerrero in the Scorpion Deathlock! That's when Chavo hit the ring and started
pounding on Sting. Juvy and Papi soon
hit the ring and the LWO beat down on Sting until The Hardy Boyz rushed the
ring and chase off the Latino World Order.
Sting wins this one by DQ and will certainly want another match with
Eddy Guerrero. WINNER: Sting in 5:50. Rating: * 1/4 We saw a split
screen shot of The Elite and Booker T, Goldberg, Chris Benoit & Chris
Jericho making their respective ways through the back as our big eight man tag
Main Event is next... Main Event: The Elite v. Booker T & Chris Benoit
& Chris Jericho & Goldberg. It
was then time for our huge superstar packed Main Event as "ONE! TWO! ZIS
ON?!" was heard and The Elite made their way out in full force. The WPW World Heavyweight Champion 'The Game'
Triple H, 'The Olympic Gold Medalist' Kurt Angle, Kidman, and 'The Worlds Most
Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock all came out to the ring as the crowd booed
heavily. Then, "One More Road"
by DMX hit and the WPW Intercontinental Champion, Booker T walked out of the
entrance and stopped then Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, and Goldberg emerged and
this foursome headed towards the ring.
The referee tried to keep the two teams apart and signalled for Kurt
Angle and Chris Benoit to start the match.
This was a very hot, fast paced, eight man tag with lots of quick tags, in
and out, back and forth action between eight of the biggest names in WPW. The closing moments of the match would see
Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho going at it.
Jericho tried a bulldog but Angle threw him off and hit a
clothesline. Angle took Jericho up top
for a belly-to-belly superplex but Jericho blocked it, flipped over and hit a
power bomb on Angle! Jericho then locked
Angle in the Walls Of Jericho but Triple H came in and broke it up. That brought in Goldberg, which brought in
Shamrock, which brought in Benoit, which brought in Booker T, which brought in
Kidman and all hell broke loose. In the
mess, Jericho hit a faceslam on Kidman but then a Lionsault. Jericho got up and Angle nailed him with a
gold medal and then an Angleplex! Angle
covered for the one ... two ... THREE!
Kurt Angle gains the pinfall over Chris Jericho! WINNERS: The Elite in 16:04. Rating: ** Afterwards, the brawl continued as Angle celebrated in
