WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - December 10 / 2000

-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-

Slipknot's "Wait And Bleed" played in the background of a montage of stills going over the events of last night's WPW Holiday Hell on Pay-Per-View.  The Acolytes beat The Unholy Alliance in a stiff Street Fight to open the show after Tajiri was put through two chairs with a Stuff Power Bomb.  Scotty Taylor cradled Dean Malenko's legs off a superplex to upset 'The Shooter' and capture the WPW Television Title.  Mike Awesome came out as Masato Tanaka's mystery partner to face Eddy Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero Jr.  Tanaka hit Guerrero with a Roaring Elbow to get the pin.  Kidman and Sting went at it in a 2 out of 3 Falls match.  Sting won the first fall then got disqualified to give Kidman the second fall.  Sting made the mistake of arguing with the referee and struggling to keep the chair, the referee let go and the chair hit Sting.  Kidman hit a Kid Krusher and Shooting Star Press to score the third and deciding fall.  The Hardy Boyz retained the WPW World Tag Team Titles over the Jung Dragons and LWO in a triangle elimination match.  The Jung Dragons eliminated the LWO then The Hardy Boyz eliminated the Dragons.  Booker T overcame interference from Kidman and Ken Shamrock to beat Kurt Angle and capture the WPW Intercontinental Championship.  In the Lion's Den match, Benoit had Shamrock in the Crossface when Mick Foley passed Shamrock a foreign object.  Shamrock nailed Benoit in the head knocking him out.  Shamrock applied a Dragon Sleeper to get the win.  The bigger story was that Ric Flair and Mick Foley came to blows brawling for a few minutes in the ring.  In the Main Event it was Triple H retaining the WPW World Heavyweight Title over Chris Jericho and Goldberg.  After several near falls, ref bumps and close calls.  Goldberg fell victim to a Pedigree through the announce table from Triple H.  Kurt Angle attacked Jericho hitting an Angleplex.  Triple H covered but Jericho kicked out.  Jericho made a quick comeback and went for the Lionsault but Triple H got the knees up then hit the Pedigree for the win.  An amazing night of action and here we are just one night later for WPW SUNDAY NIGHT...

"Spit It Out" by Slipknot played in the background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 graphic comes up on the screen then fades away but not completely as a fast paced montage of WPW action including; Masato Tanaka hitting the Roaring Elbow on Mike Awesome, Al Snow smashing away at Sting's arm with a chair, Booker T drilling Kurt Angle with a Neckwrecker, The Acolytes putting Jeff Hardy through a table, the LWO beating down an opponent, Ken Shamrock with the Ankle Lock on Triple H, Mike Awesome with an Over-The-Top-Rope Awesome Bomb, Kidman pinning Ric Flair, Sting hitting the Scorpion Death Drop on Al Snow, Kurt Angle with all his gold, Chris Benoit raising the King Of Kings trophy, The Hardy Boyz with the Twist Of Fate and Swanton Bomb, Triple H hitting the Pedigree on Goldberg, Chris Jericho hitting a Lionsault on Goldberg, Goldberg spearing Jericho, Mick Foley hitting Goldberg in the head with a chair and much, much more.  The WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo fades back into full then explodes...

   '5..4..3..2..1'

With that pyro shot up from the entrance and "Y2J" Chris Jericho emerged, microphone in hand.  Jericho walked down into the ring to kick things off here tonight...

Chris Jericho:  "First things first, welcome to SUNDAY NIGHT JERICHO!  Ya know, a funny thing happened last night, maybe it was all the blows to the head that I took but I don't remember last night's main event being a Four Way Dance.  I mean, I THOUGHT it was a Three Way Dance with Y2J, Goldberg, and Triple H?  Correct me if I'm wrong but that was the match that I went into?  Yes?  I thought so but then I beg the question, Kirk Angel, just what in the HELL do you think you were doing?  I mean, maybe you were still smarting from the ass kicking given to you by Booker T or maybe you were Triple H's backdoor buddy, I mean, backup plan?  Now I'm not going to whine and cry and demand that last night's decision be overturned but what I will do is say this, I feel and I'm sure that all the Jericholics here tonight feel that Y2J was cheated and that Y2J deserves another World Heavyweight Title shot!"

  'INVASION...'

Those sounds interrupted Y2J as Goldberg would emerge from the entrance in jeans and a t-shirt.  Goldberg headed out into the ring where he got a microphone of his own...

Goldberg:  "Chris Jericho, you make a good case for a World Heavyweight Title shot because Kurt Angle did come out there and interfere in the match leading to you going down for the three count but with all do respect, if anyone deserves another shot at the title, it's ME!  Triple H, you may have retained the World Heavyweight Title but you didn't beat me.  You may be able to look at yourself in the mirror with that gold around your waist and be satisfied but the whole world knows that you didn't beat me and I don't think you can.  I've always been told that good things are worth waiting for but I've run out of patience.  Every week I've been watching you, Triple H, I've been watching you come out here and walk around with what was stolen from me, with what should be mine, the World Heavyweight Title.  There's a rage inside of me that I bring to the ring but Triple H, one on one, for the World Heavyweight Title, the way it should be, I'll take that rage to a whole new level and take my World Title because if I get my way, Triple, YOU'RE ..."

   'ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!'

Before Goldberg could finish his popular saying, he was interrupted by the music of the WPW World Heavyweight Champion.  Shortly, 'The Game' Triple H would emerge from the entrance along with Kurt Angle.  Triple H had a microphone...

Triple H:  "You know, every week we seem to have these little summits and usually it ends up with guys like you two getting your way but not this week.  I proved beyond a shadow of a doubt last night why I am The Game when I beat both of your asses last night.  So in my eyes, neither of you are eligable for a World Heavyweight Title shot!  Goldberg, if you're looking to unleash this rage of yours maybe you should direct in the direction of the man standing next to you.  You talked about how the World Title was stolen from you?  Remember it wasn't me that perpetrated that crime, it was 'Y2J' Chris Jericho..."

Kurt Angle:  "Speaking of Chris Jericho, I resent the way you come out here and call me Kirk Angel.  My name is KURT ANGLE, remember it.  I know that the education system isn't up to snuff up there in Winnipeg and maybe you didn't learn how to spell in Snow Shovelling 101 but that's no reason to mis-pronounce the name of an Olympic Gold Medalist and True American Hero like myself, KURT ANGLE.  Jericho, you want to know why I did what I did last night?"

Chris Jericho:  "Yes, jackass..."

Kurt Angle:  "Hey, mister, don't get foul with me or I won't tell you because it really is none of your business but being the man that I am, I'll tell you just for the heck of it.  Chris Jericho, you're a punk, plain and simple.  You used a chair in that match and I cannot allow an injustice to be perpetrated on a fellow Elite member in Triple H.  We are the cornerstones of World Professional Wrestling and we are role models for each and everyone of you out there, it's true.  Chris Jericho, you need to look in the mirror then look at me and then look back in the mirror everyday and say to yourself, 'how can I be more like Kurt Angle?'  For starters you can cut off that long blond punk hair of yours and clean up your act, buck-o because this promotion certaintly does not need a foul mouthed, long haired, sly, cocky man like you Chris Jericho as it's representive so I, Kurt Angle, pledge to my country and my people to rid the WPW of you, Chris Jericho and that is TRUE!"

'WHOOOOOOOO!'  With that sound Ric Flair appeared on the big screen as this opening segment continued...

Ric Flair:  "Whoooo, what a mouthful, Kurt.  I thought this was a wrestling show?  Haha.  It is, don't worry, we'll get this business wrapped up into a nice little package.  I've listened to all the arguements and at WPW Power Struggle on January 6th from Madison Square Garden, Triple H will defend the WPW World Heavyweight Title against ... GOLDBERG!  Don't worry, Chris, I've booked you in a match whre the winner will face the World Champion at the February PPV and your opponent?  KURT ANGLE!  WHOOOOO!  As for here tonight in the Main Event, all four of you will be involved in a Fatal Fourway match and don't worry Triple H, the WPW World Title will *NOT* be on the line but the match itself *WILL* be NO HOLDS BARRED!  WHOOOOO!  I'M RIC FLAIR! I'M THE COMMISSIONER!  WHOOOOO!  AND THAT'S FAIR!"

We then went to a break then back to the arena as Scott Hudson and Jerry Lawler sent us to the ring for action...

Opening Match: Masato Tanaka & Mike Awesome v. The Lowdown.  "Awesome" by Reckless Fortune blared over the speakers as Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka walked out of the entrance together.  Awseome and Tanaka first teamed up last night and it appears that they're going to try and continue their success as a team.  Then, "Hip Hop" by Dead Prez brought The Lowdown of D'Lo and Chaz out to the ring.  Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka carried over their dominance from last night as they looked even crisper as a tag team using a few double team maneuvers.  The ending would see Chaz go for a Superplex on Mike Awesome.  Masato Tanaka came in and lifted Chaz up on his shoulders.  Awesome flew off with a flying lariat on Chaz.  Awesome picked up Chaz and drilled him with the Running Awesome Bomb for the one-two-three!  Awesome and Tanaka are victorious!

WINNERS: Masato Tanaka and Mike Awesome in 3:40.

Rating: ** 1/2

  'Seek And Destroy'

Sting walked out of the entrance looking to be in a somber mood as he walked into the ring in street clothes and took a microphone...

Sting:  "I know you fans have already heard a lot of talking tonight but bare with me for a few minutes because I've got something to get off my chest.  Over the past weeks and months I've heard it several times, that I'm too old, that I've lost my passion for the wrestling business and that I have no heart.  Maybe their right?  Maybe the wrestling business has outgrew the Stinger.  I mean, I've tried to change, I've ditched the face paint, I've changed my tights but maybe there's nothing else I can do.  Maybe I'm just delaying the enevitable because as they say, all good things have to come to an end.  So what I'm trying to say in a round about way is..."

  'La Raza'

Eddy Guerrero stepped out of the entrance at the top of the ramp with the Latino World Order, Chavo Guerrero Jr, Juventud Guerrera, and Papi Chulo stepped out behind him.  Guerrero had a microphone...

Sting:  "What?  What do you want?"

Eddy Guerrero:  "Hahaha, Sting, what a joke!  You're a joke, Sting!  You're nothing!  Look at you coming out here and crying about how the wrestling business has outgrowen you when the fact of the matter is that you couldn't hang with Kidman last night, you can't hang with the future of wrestling, you can't hang with the fast paced luchas like the Latino World Order and you certainly cannot hang with Eddy Guerrero.  Sting, I'm not going to let you walk away, man.  I'm going to punk you out and send you out of this business on a stretcher!  Why?  BECAUSE I CAN, DAMNIT!  AND I WILL!"

Eddy Guerrero then hit the ring and slapped Sting.  Sting decked Eddy with a right hand then the LWO hit the ring.  Sting tried to fend them off but the numbers were too much as they kicked down Sting and stomped him down leaving him laying...

Match #2: Scotty Taylor (c) v. Jamie Howard - WPW Television Title.  "Push It" by Static X brought the 'debuting' Jaime Howard out to the ring for our next match.  "Country Grammar" by Nelly blared over the loudspeakers as the WPW Television Champion, Scotty 'Too Hotty' Taylor headed out for his first title defense.  This would be a good fast paced TV Title match.  The ending would see Taylor hit the WORM on Howard then go up top for the Diving DDT but Howard caught him and threw Taylor down to the mat.  Howard hit Taylor with a swinging neckbreaker then went up for his Flying Dropkick but Taylor moved.  Taylor went up and hit the Diving DDT for the one-two-three!  Scotty Taylor retains the WPW Television Title!

WINNER: Scotty Taylor in 4:01.

-We went inside the dressing room of The Elite with Triple H, Kurt Angle, Ken Shamrock and Kidman.  All four men were wondering where Mick Foley was and why they haven't heard from him since last night...

Match #3: Jung Dragons v. Latino World Order.  "Somebody Someone" by KoRn blared over the speakers as Jinsei Shinzaki and Tatsuhito Takaiwa of the Jung Dragons headed out to the ring.  "La Raza" hit as Juventud Guerrera and Papi Chulo of the Latino World Order made their way out to the ring.  These two teams were a part of the triangle match last night where The Hardy Boyz retained the WPW World Tag Team Titles.  This was a high flying match as usual when these two teams hook it up.  The ending would see Shinzaki going for a superkick on Chulo but Chulo rolled underneath, walked the ropes and hit the Moonsault on Shinzaki!  Takaiwa came in but Juvy caught him with a springboard dropkick!  Chulo got the one-two-three on Shinzaki!  The LWO get their win back after the Jung Dragons eliminated them from the World Tag Team Titles match last night!

WINNERS: Latino World Order in 5:38.

-Michael Cole got some comments from the new WPW Intercontinental Champion, Booker T...

Booker T:  "It's about damn time, Booker T, WPW Intercontinental Champion for a second time.  Last night, that loud mouthed fool Kurt Angle got his courtesy of Booker T.  The Elite tried their best to make sure that Kurt would walk out champion but when it was all said and done, Booker T walked out ... champion.  That doesn't mean that Ken Shamrock and Kidman get off lightly, no.  Tonight, Shamrock, I take you apart, sucka.  Then, Kidman, you tried to jump on me last night but if you want some of Booker T then take me on, face to face, like a man."

Kidman walked in and stood behind Michael Cole...

Booker T:  "What?  You want some, sucka?"

Kidman reached over and smacked Booker T in the face then ran off as Booker T gave chase then stopped and walked back to Michael Cole with a microphone...

Booker T:  "Kidman, sooner then later you will get yours, dig it?"

Match #4: Chavo Guerrero Jr. v. Sting.  "La Raza" hit as Chavo Guerrero Jr. of the Latino World Order made his way out to the ring.  "Seek And Destroy" hit as an angry Sting rushed into the ring and unleashed right hands on Chavo.  Chavo bailed to the outside but Sting gave chase.  Chavo rolled back in and jumped on Sting as he came back in.  Chavo worked over Sting and hit a pumphandle suplex.  Chavo sent Sting into the ropes and went for a vertical facebuster but Sting countered it with a clothesline.  Sting picked up Chavo and hit a gorilla press slam.  Sting went up top and came off with a splash but Chavo moved!  Chavo pulled Sting into the corner for the Tornado DDT but blocked it punching Chavo.  Sting pulled Chavo down and whipped him across the ring and hit a STINGER SPLASH!  Sting hit a second STINGER SPLASH on Chavo!  Chavo staggered out and Sting nailed the Scorpion Death Drop!  The LWO rushed towards the ring but Sting got the three count before they could make the save!

WINNER: Sting in 2:07.

Sting went to work on the LWO but the numbers were too much as Sting once again fell victim to a beating from the Latino World Order...

"Ironman" by Black Sabbath blasted through the speakers as The Acolytes headed out to the ring for our next match but first took a microphone...

Faarooq:  "Last night, we ended our feud with The Unholy Alliance when they got punked out in a Street Fight."

Bradshaw:  "We're currently in the process of acquiring a new office for the Acolytes Protection Agency.  Business has been a little slow as of late, I admit but I think it'll pick up after we regain the World Tag Team Titles here tonight..."

Faarooq:  "That's right, Hardyz, we've faced time and time again so bring your scrawny little asses out here and get ready to drop the titles..."

Match #5: The Hardy Boyz (c) v. The Acolytes - WPW World Tag Team Titles.  "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit blared over the loudspeakers as the WPW World Tag Team Champions, The Hardy Boyz made their way out to the ring for a title defense just one night after a grueling triangle match.  The four men brawled to start off the match then it settled down into a back and forth match until The Acolytes started to take control with some power moves.  The ending would see Faarooq hit a spinebuster on Jeff Hardy.  That's when Tajiri and Mikey Whipwreck ran down to ringside.  The referee tried to restrain them and additional officials came out to restrain them but as they did, Sinister Minister had come down also.  Minister shot a fireball at Faarooq!  Bradshaw jumped down and pounded on Minister!  Jeff Hardy capitilized on this and would hit a Hardy Cutter on Bradshaw then the Swanton Bomb for the one, two, three!  The Hardy Boyz have retained the WPW World Tag Team Titles!  Afterwards, Whipwreck grabbed a chair and nailed Bradshaw knocking him down as The Unholy Alliance and Sinister Minister continued this feud with The Acolytes...

WINNERS: The Hardy Boyz in 5:10.

We went backstage to see a black limosine pulling up and out stepped, MICK FOLEY!  With that we went to a break...

We returned and "Welcome To The Fold" by Filter came over the speakers and out walked the WPW Owner, Mick Foley.  Foley walked down into the ring to a huge chorus of boos as he took a microphone...

Mick Foley:  "Ric Flair, when you laid those chops into my chest and those right hands into the side of my head everything became quite clear to me.  You see, for the past four months I've tried to co-exist with you, I've tried to put up with you and I've tried to compete with you but the fact of the matter is this, Ric Flair, the two of us never could or will be on the same page and the days of co-existing and sharing power are OVER.  There isn't room at the top of World Professional Wrestling for the both of us and it's time that we settle this.  Ric Flair, I can't even believe that I'm saying this but I, Mick Foley, owner of World Professional Wrestling am willing to put my power on the line against yours!  I want my company back!  Winner takes all, legend against legend, Commissioner against Owner, RIC FLAIR against MICK FOLEY!  What a better place then in the most famous arena in North America, Madison Square Gardens at the aptly named WPW Power Struggle..."

  'Sprach Zarathustra...'

The Commissioner of World Professional Wrestling, 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair stepped out of the entrance and walked down into the ring with Mick Foley where Flair took a microphone...

Ric Flair:  "I'd like to start of by apoligizing for my actions last night ... I apoligize that I didn't snap those legs of yours Foley!  WHOOOOOO!  You can try and spin this any way you like Mick Foley, you can twist the truth and try to make yourself out like a victim but the bottom line is that 'The Nature Boy' is going to take control of your company whether you like it or not!  That's right, pal, I'm accepting your challenge, Winner Takes All, Madison Square Gardens, Mick Foley and Ric Flair!  WHOOOO!  The lines have been drawn in the sand and two retired legends will step into the squared circle for ONE NIGHT ONLY to find out just who will control this company.  Foley, you may not like me but your gonna have to learn to love me because after Power Struggle I'll have your company in the palm of my hand, WHOOOOOOO!"

Mick Foley:  "That's not the way it's going to happen, I'm going to lace up the boots on more time and the Hardcore Legend, the King Of The Death match is going to beat the **** out of the overrated Nature Boy."

Ric Flair:  "We don't have to wait until Power Struggle, we can do this right now.  Come on', let's go, let's fight!"

Ric Flair took off his sport jacket and was readying for a fight when Mick Foley pulled a roll of paper out of his back pocket.

Mick Foley:  "Oh yes, we do have to wait until Power Struggle because last night after you put your hands on me, I got a nationwide restraining order against you meaning that until January 6th when I rip this paper up, you can't put your hands on me or else you're FIRED!"

Ric Flair:  "What's wrong?  The King Of Hardcore has no guts?  That's what I thought!  You're making a big mistake because all this is going to do is make me bottle up all the anger and unleash it on you at Power Struggle, WHOOOOOOOOOO!"

Ric Flair and Mick Foley went face-to-face as we went to a commercial break.  The Fatal Fourway Main Event is next...

Main Event: Triple H v. Chris Jericho v. Kurt Angle v. Goldberg - Non-Title Fatal Fourway Match.  It was then time for our Main Event setup earlier tonight by Ric Flair.  "ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!" sounded as the WPW World Heavyweight Champion, 'The Game' Triple H made his way out to the ring first.  "5..4..3..2..1" ... "Y2J" Chris Jericho came out next.  Jericho and Triple H went face to face then, "My Hero" by Foo Fighters sounded as Kurt Angle emerged from the entrance.  Angle hit the ring and nailed Jericho from behind!  Triple H and Kurt Angle double teamed Jericho before 'INVASION' hit as Goldberg rushed into the ring and the fourway brawl was on.  This didn't resemble a wrestling match, it was just four men brawling it out non-stop.  Angle and Jericho paired off while Triple H and Goldberg paired off for most of it.  Goldberg mixed it up with Jericho and Angle while Triple H and Angle didn't go at eachother even though they're opponents.  The closing moments of the match would see Chris Jericho go for the missile dropkick on Kurt Angle but Angle crotched Jericho up top then went for a belly-to-belly superplex but Jericho blocked that shoving Angle down to the canvas.  Jericho came off and nailed the missile dropkick on Angle.  Jericho got up and was drilled by the SPEAR from Goldberg!  Goldberg called for the Jackhammer but Triple H came in and low blowed Goldberg then went for the Pedigree but Goldberg blocked it backdropping Triple H out of the ring.  Angle was pulling himself up with the ropes and Goldberg tried to SPEAR him but Angle moved and Goldberg went through the ropes to the outside!  Jericho was up and drilled Angle with a face slam then hit the LIONSAULT!  Jericho covers for the one...two...THREE!  Chris Jericho has won this Fatal Fourway match!

WINNER: Chris Jericho in 8:15.
