WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - November 12 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Megadeth's
'Crush 'Em' played in the background of still footage recapping the action from
last night's Pay-Per-View, Manchester Massacre.
The Unholy Alliance showed their toughness as they bloodied and defeated
The Acolytes. The Jung Dragons won a
Six-Man Tag over Al Snow, Steve Blackman and Dean Malenko when Hayashi pinned
Malenko. Scotty Taylor got the win in a
grueling Manchester Death Match over Brian Christopher to end their feud. Eddy Guerrero defeated Masato Tanaka thanks
to a masked man revealed to be Chavo Guerrero Jr. Booker T beat Mike Awesome to go on to
referee the Main Event. The Hardy Boyz
foiled the Latino World Order and regained the WPW World Tag Team Titles. The Ultimate Survival Main Event came down to
Triple H alone against Goldberg and Chris Jericho. Jericho pinned Triple H allowing Goldberg to
get his five minutes with Foley. Jericho
teased re-joining Foley but then would Lionsault Foley and leave him to
Goldberg. Goldberg dismantled the owner
of the WPW busting him open in several places as the PPV came to a close. How will Foley retaliate tonight? "Spit It
Out" by Slipknot played in the background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2
graphic comes up on the screen then fades away but not completely as a fast
paced montage of WPW action including; Masato Tanaka hitting the Roaring Elbow
on Mike Awesome, Al Snow smashing away at Sting's arm with a chair, Booker T
drilling Kurt Angle with a Neckwrecker, The Acolytes putting Jeff Hardy through
a table, the LWO beating down an opponent, Ken Shamrock with the Ankle Lock on
Triple H, Mike Awesome with an Over-The-Top-Rope Awesome Bomb, Kidman pinning
Ric Flair, Sting hitting the Scorpion Death Drop on Al Snow, Kurt Angle with
all his gold, Chris Benoit raising the King Of Kings trophy, The Hardy Boyz
with the Twist Of Fate and Swanton Bomb, Triple H hitting the Pedigree on
Goldberg, Chris Jericho hitting a Lionsault on Goldberg, Goldberg spearing
Jericho, Mick Foley hitting Goldberg in the head with a chair and much, much
more. The WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo
fades back into full then explodes... 'Sprach
Zarathustra...' The Commissioner
of WPW, 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair stepped out of the entrance and walked out
to the ring. Flair let a trademark
'Whooo!' then a took a microphone... Ric Flair:
"We are in BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND ... WHOOOOOOO! In England, what do we think about The
Elite? They SUCK! They SUCK!
Last night as I downed some kamikaze's at a local pub, I got asked the
question what do I think of what Goldberg did to Mick Foley? It was wonderful! WHOOOO! Mick Foley, you got your just deserts,
pal. As the commissioner of World
Professional Wrestling I've decided to reward Goldberg and Chris Jericho for
being the survivors last night and what a more fitting reward then a shot at
the richest prize in all of wrestling, the WPW World Heavyweight
Championship. That's right, Triple H, at
WPW Holiday Hell on December the 9th you will defend your coveted championship
in a Three Way Dance against 'Y2J' Chris Jericho and Goldberg! WHOOOOOO! Why?
Because I'm the Commissioner and I'm Ric Flair so by god, I have the
power! WHOOOOOOOO! WHOOOOOO! WHOOOOO!" We then headed to
the announcers table where Scott Hudson and Jerry 'The King' Lawler welcomed us
to the show. Tonight, Kaz Hayashi
defends the WPW Television Title against Dean Malenko. T&A against The Lowdown. Masato Tanaka gets a match against Chavo Guerrero
Jr. The Unholy Alliance will face the
Jung Dragons. Chris Benoit will wrestle
Booker T for a shot at the I-C Title at Holiday Hell. Sting will get another match with his rival
Kidman plus a whole lot more here tonight on WPW Sunday Night from the Natural
Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England... Opening Match: Kaz Hayashi (c) v. Dean Malenko - WPW
Television Title. "Change" by
Deftones brought the former WPW TV Champion and challenger, 'The Shooter' Dean
Malenko out to the ring first. Then,
"Somebody Someone" by KoRn blared over the PA as the reigning WPW
Television Champion, Kaz Hayashi of the Jung Dragons headed out to the
ring. This was a great match to kick
things off here from Birmingham as it usually is when Hayashi and Malenko get
it on. The ending would see Malenko sent
Hayashi into the corner but Hayashi reversed it. Hayashi came in with a splash but Malenko
moved out of the way. Malenko sent
Hayashi into the ropes but Hayashi came off with a spinning leg lariat on
Malenko for two. Hayashi then went out
to the apron for his Slingshot DDT but Malenko knocked the referee into the
ropes causing Hayashi to trip and fall to the canvas. Malenko picked up Hayashi and drilled him
with a power bomb then turned him over into the TEXAS CLOVERLEAF! Hayashi's in the ropes! Malenko broke the hold and pulled Hayashi
into the middle of the ring and went for it again but Hayashi rolled him up for
the one ... two ... THR ... Malenko reverses the rollup for one ... two ... THR
... Hayashi kicks out! Malenko got up
first and nailed Hayashi in the head with a dropkick. Malenko then locked in the Texas Cloverleaf
for the submission! 'The Shooter' Dean
Malenko has regained the WPW Television Title! WINNER: Dean Malenko in 5:45. Rating: *** 3/4 (Dean Malenko won the WPW Television Title.) "Welcome To
The Fold" by Filter blared over the PA as the WPW Owner, Mick Foley walked
out to the ring with a bandage on his forehead from where Goldberg split him
open last night. Foley got into the ring
and took a microphone... Mick Foley:
"If you people would pay the owner of this company some respect and
shut your mouths it would be most appreciated.
You see, last night at Manchester Massacre, Goldberg, you plain and
simple kicked my ass. You split my mouth
open, you split my head open and as you stand there in victory, did you
actually think for one SINGLE SECOND that I would let this go unanswered? If you did then you're a DAMN FOOL because
Mick Foley may be retired but I *OWN* this joint and that means I can do
whatever the hell I want. Over the past
couple months, I haven't really exercised my power to it's full extent because
I didn't need to but now, Goldberg, you and the others seem to have FORGOTTEN
that who writes your paychecks. You
ungrateful bastards! Speaking of
bastards ... Ric Flair ... You want to book Triple H in a match that stacks the
deck against him because you couldn't get the job done against him? That's just fine. 'The Game' is running a little late tonight
but later on, I'm booking us a Main Event tag team match tonight. Triple H will team with Ken Shamrock to take
on the new buddy-buddy team of GOLDBERG and CHRIS JERICHO! We'll see how long until those two egos
explode again. Have a nice day!" Match #2: T&A v. The Lowdown. "Shock" by Fear Factory blared over
the PA as Trish Stratus led her team of Test and Albert, T&A out to the
ring first for our next match. Then,
"Hip Hop" by Dead Prez blared over the loudspeakers as The Lowdown of
D'Lo Brown and Chaz headed out to the ring.
At the WPW UK Only PPV from Earl's Court, Lowdown teamed with Scotty
Taylor against Brian Christopher and T&A where Lowdown finished off Test
with the Real Deal finisher for the win.
T&A looks for revenge tonight.
The end would see Chaz go for an Inverted DVD on Albert but couldn't get
him up. Albert then hit his delayed
double underhook suplex on Chaz. Albert
made the tag to Test. Test went up top
for the Flying Elbowdrop but D'Lo crotched him on the top. Albert came at D'Lo but D'Lo backdropped him
out of the ring. Chaz and D'Lo then
nailed the REAL DEAL on Test and Chaz covered for the one, two, and THREE! The Lowdown steal another win over T&A as
they climb the ranks in the tag team division. WINNERS: The Lowdown in 3:33. Rating: 3/4* "La
Raza" came over the PA as the Latino World Order of Eddy Guerrero,
Juventud Guerrera, Papi Chulo and now Chavo Guerrero Jr. headed out to the ring
in full force. Juvy took the
microphone... Juvy: "Hardy
Boyz, being former champions we're exercising our right to a rematch and we
want a rematch and we will win back the titles if ya taste what The Juice is
squeezin'!" Eddy:
"Masa-to Ta-naka ... The difference between you and me is that I
don't care if these people cheer me or boo me, all I care about is whether I
get my arm raised and last night my arm was raised as the winner. But Eddy you cheated? Big friggin' deal! You're damn right I cheated and I'll cheat
again and again! Because that's what I
do, I *CHEAT* and I win. I'm not a loser
like all of you Brits! What's even
greater is that my nephew, Chavo has seen the light and joined the Latino World
Order!" Chavo:
"That's right, Uncle Eddy, I did it! I finally made you proud and made our family
proud. I did this for 'La Raza'! As for you Masato Tanaka, bring your butt down
to the ring because these boots were made for kickin'!" Match #3: Chavo Guerrero Jr. v. Masato Tanaka. 'D A N G U N' blared over the PA as Masato
Tanaka headed out to the ring. The LWO
stuck around ringside which wasn't very welcoming for Masato Tanaka. Masato Tanaka controlled much of this match
not letting the LWO at ringside distract him from taking apart Chavo Guerrero
Jr. Chavo looked good and the help from
the LWO made him look even better. The end
would see Chavo whip Tanaka into the ropes and Papi tripped him. The referee went to the outside and would
argue with Papi sending him to the back.
Meanwhile, Tanaka nailed Chavo with a lariat then went for the Roaring
Elbow but Juventud nailed him with a springboard spinning leg lariat then Eddy
came off with a Frog Splash all behind the referee's back. Chavo then connected with the Tornado DDT to
add insult to injury. Chavo made the
cover as the referee came back in and counted one, two, THREE! Chavo Guerrero Jr. steals a win over Masato
Tanaka with interference from the LWO but who's surprised? The LWO's motto is 'Cheat To Win' afterall... WINNER: Chavo Guerrero Jr. in 5:14. Rating: ** 1/4 Backstage-: -We went to the locker room of The Unholy Alliance where
the Sinister Minister had some commments... "24 hours
ago the wrestling world witnessed something they thought they wouldn't
see. They saw two men that were thought
to be too small to be dangerous hand it to The Acolytes. They saw Tajiri's lethal kicks destroy
Bradshaw first hand. They saw The Unholy
Alliance at their most dangerous humble the so-called most dangerous team in
wrestling. We move forward tonight
against the Jung Dragons. Shinzaki ...
Takaiwa. Impressive? Yes.
Great? Time will tell but for now
they cannot touch The Unholy Alliance.
The slaughter continues as we drill it into you that these two men are
not to be taken lightly." Match #4: The Unholy Alliance v. Jung Dragons. "Bombtrack" by Rage Against The
Machine blared over the PA as Sinister Minister led out The Unholy Alliance of
Tajiri and Mikey Whipwreck. 24 hours
ago, The Unholy Alliance did the unthinkable and dismantled The Acolytes. Then, "Somebody Someone" by KoRn
brought Jinsei Shinzaki and Tatsuhito Takaiwa of the Jung Dragons out to the
ring. Last night, the Jung Dragons were
victorious in a Six Man over Malenko, Snow & Blackman. This was a solid tag team match with a lot of
stiff moves between the four men. The
end would see Shinzaki go for the Praying Power Bomb on Whipwreck but Tajiri
came in and nailed Shinzaki with a thrust kick to the kick knocking Shinzaki
down. Takaiwa came in and hit Tajiri
with a lariat and tried to send him into the corner but Tajiri reversed it,
tied Takaiwa to the Tree Of Woe and hit a baseball slide dropkick while
Whipwreck hit the Whippersnapper on Shinzaki for the one, two, THREE! The Unholy Alliance take a hard fought match
over the Jung Dragons. WINNERS: The Unholy Alliance in 5:19. Rating: ** Backstage-: -Michael Cole got some comments from Sting about his
matchup later tonight against Kidman.
Sting said that he beat down Kidman before but last night, thanks to
Triple H, Kidman can now claim a pinfall on Sting and Sting doesn't like that
so tonight he's going to put Kidman out one more time because it's SHOWTIME! Match #5: Chris Benoit v. Booker T. This match was for a I-C Title shot at WPW
Holiday Hell. "My Hero" by Foo
Fighters sounded over the PA as the WPW Intercontinental Champion, Kurt Angle
walked out and joined the announcers.
"Surfacing" by Slipknot blasted through the loudspeakers as
'The Crippler' Chris Benoit walked out to a big pop from the crowd. Benoit walked down and around the ring and
would stare down Angle telling him to stay out of the match. Then, "One More Road" by DMX blared
over the PA as Booker T headed out to the ring.
Benoit and Booker T would smack hands before the match. Neither man has a problem with the other but
the winner of this match will go on to challenge Angle at the PPV. Benoit and Booker T would have a steller,
clean match with lots of good wrestling and brawling. The closing moments of the match would see
Benoit and Booker T fighting on the outside.
Benoit went to whip Booker T into the ringpost but Booker reversed it
then hit a backdrop suplex on the concrete.
Booker rolled Benoit in but from behind Angle spat water on Booker. Booker turned around and slugged Angle. The referee came in and got in between them
but while this was going on, KEN SHAMROCK came out from the back and cranked
Benoit with a chair leaving him laying.
Booker T rolled into the ring and saw Benoit still down, thinking he was
still out from the suplex on the outside.
Booker T picked up Benoit and drilled him with the Neckwrecker for the
one, two, THREE! Booker T is the Number
One Contender for the Intercontinental Championship! WINNER: Booker T in 7:16. Rating: *** Afterwards, Kurt Angle rolled into the ring and knocked
out Booker T from behind with the Intercontinental Title belt. Angle celebrated as he left the ring. Backstage-: -Michael Cole brought in Goldberg and Chris Jericho. Cole asked them if they can function as a
unit tonight knowing that they'll have to fight at Holiday Hell for the World
Heavyweight Title. Jericho said he
wouldn't have it any other way. Jericho
said he's still got a lot to prove to Goldberg and to the fans. Jericho said that he can function as a team
tonight because his hatred for The Elite is that deep. Goldberg agreed that Jericho had a lot to
prove but took a big step last night at Manchester Massacre. Goldberg said that they're not going to fall
into Foley's plan to divide and conquer but instead take out The Elite once
again then at Holiday Hell, the best man will walk out the champion... Match #6: Kidman v. Sting. "Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit blared
over the loudspeakers as Kidman soon came out of the entrance and walked to the
ring full of confidence. Then,
"Seek And Destroy" blared over the PA as Sting made his entrance. Sting and Kidman went back and forth for a
few minutes as Sting looked for revenge after Kidman got a pin on him in the
Ultimate Survival Match. The closing
moments of the match would see Kidman nail an inverted suplex on Sting. Kidman then went for a Kid Krusher but Sting
blocked it and hit a gorilla press slam on Kidman. Sting sent Kidman into the corner and tried a
Stinger Splash but Kidman moved. Kidman
then hit a swinging bulldog on Sting and went up top for the Shooting Star
Press. Sting got up and crotched Kidman
on the top then hit a superplex. Sting
then picked up Kidman for the Scorpion Death Drop but Kidman countered it with
a vicious low blow. Kidman rolled to the
outside and grabbed a chair then returned into the ring, nailing Sting with it
over the back several times. The referee
had no choice but to DQ Kidman! WINNER: Sting via DQ in 5:20. Rating: 3/4* Kidman would get right in Sting's face and say,
"Sting, you've got no heart anymore!
YOU'VE GOT NO HEART! Retire,
Sting, RETIRE!" Kidman got up and
stomped on Sting then raised the chair up over his head before leaving. Backstage-: -The WPW World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H was shown
arriving VERY late to the arena as Foley told him he had good news and bad
news. The bad news being he has to
defend the title at Holiday Hell against Jericho and Goldberg. The good news being that he and Shamrock get
Goldberg and Jericho in a tag team match tonight. Triple H cursed about the stupid British
drivers and said he'll go out there in a few minutes because he's that DAMN
GOOD. Foley stroked Triple H's ego
telling him that he is.. Main Event: Triple H & Ken Shamrock v. Goldberg &
Chris Jericho. It was then time for our
Main Event tag team match setup by Mick Foley earlier tonight. "ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!" was heard as
'The Game' Triple H and 'The Worlds Most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock of The
Elite along with Mick Foley made their way out to the ring first. Then, "INVASION..." hit as Goldberg
rushed into the ring. Triple H and Ken
Shamrock bailed out then jumped up on the apron ready to attack when the lights
went out. 'Break Down The Walls' blasted
over the loudspeakers as "Y2J" Chris Jericho ran into the ring. Triple H and Shamrock cleared out again as
Jericho and Goldberg worked up the crowd.
The match would then begin with Shamrock and Jericho starting things
out. Despite the fact that they'll be
facing eachother in the Main Event at Holiday Hell, Goldberg and Chris Jericho
seemed to mesh well as a team and had no real problems. Triple H and Shamrock tried to isolate
Jericho for much of the match. The
closing moments of the match would see Triple H and Jericho going at it. Triple H went for a high knee but Jericho
held onto the ropes then hit a face slam on Helmsley. Both men were down and crawled towards their
corners making simulatenous tags.
Goldberg and Shamrock came in and Goldberg cleaned house on The Elite. Foley got up on the apron and distracted the
referee. Jericho knocked Triple H out of
the ring with a clothesline then hit a baseball slide dropkick. Here comes Kidman! Kidman was coming out of the entrance but got
blindsided by a charging Benoit with a chair!
Benoit rolled into the ring and absolutely killed Shamrock with a
chairshot! Goldberg then Jackhammer'ed
Shamrock and covered! ONE! TWO!
THREE! Goldberg and Chris Jericho take
the win! WINNERS: Goldberg and Chris Jericho in 8:00. Rating: ** 1/2 Benoit pulled Shamrock to the outside and started
pounding on him with punches gaining some revenge. Meanwhile Chris Jericho rolled back into the
ring as the referee raised his and Goldberg's arms. Triple H came in and the three men looked
around at eachother as it sunk in that at Holiday Hell it will be the World
Heavyweight Champion, Triple H defending against Goldberg and Chris Jericho in
a Three Way Dance... ==-==-==-==-==-==-== WPW News & Notes-: ==-==-==-==-==-==-== -The Full Blooded Italians have been released by
