WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - October 29 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- "Spit It
Out" by Slipknot played in the background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2
graphic comes up on the screen then fades away but not completely as a fast
paced montage of WPW action including; Masato Tanaka hitting the Roaring Elbow
on Mike Awesome, Al Snow smashing away at Sting's arm with a chair, Booker T
drilling Kurt Angle with a Neckwrecker, The Acolytes putting Jeff Hardy through
a table, the LWO beating down an opponent, Ken Shamrock with the Ankle Lock on
Triple H, Mike Awesome with an Over-The-Top-Rope Awesome Bomb, Kidman pinning
Ric Flair, Sting hitting the Scorpion Death Drop on Al Snow, Kurt Angle with
all his gold, Chris Benoit raising the King Of Kings trophy, The Hardy Boyz
with the Twist Of Fate and Swanton Bomb, Triple H hitting the Pedigree on
Goldberg, Chris Jericho hitting a Lionsault on Goldberg, Goldberg spearing
Jericho, Mick Foley hitting Goldberg in the head with a chair and much, much
more. The WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo
fades back into full then explodes... We entered the
arena with 'Sprach Zarathustra' already playing over the PA with Ric Flair on
his way out to the ring. Flair got into
the ring and took a microphone to kick things off... Ric Flair:
"Ladies and gentlemen, at this time join me in welcoming the
recently returning ... GOLDBERG!"
"Invasion..." hit as Goldberg walked out and into the ring
standing next to Commissioner Flair... Ric Flair:
"Goldberg, I brought you out here tonight to give you an
opportunity to get a few things off your chest so to speak and to tell you that
if your team wins at Manchester Massacre in the Ultimate Survival Match then
you will get *FIVE* minutes alone in the ring with Mick Foley immediately
following the match. What'd you think
about that Goldberg?" Goldberg: "I
think if you continue to make decisions like that then we're going to have a
very healthy wrestler-commissioner relationship which is a nice change because
usually I don't get along with authority figures." Ric Flair: "I
know where you're coming from, big man, I've been screwed over more times then
Kidman would be in prison so I can understand where you're coming from. That's why I'm making it my responsibility to
be a fair commissioner and offset the decisions made by our corrupt owner, Mick
Foley." Goldberg: "As
for tonight, which one of The Elite is next..." Ric Flair:
"Kurt Angle..." Goldberg:
"Kurt Angle, the supposed 'American Hero' and the Olympic Gold
Medalist. Kurt, you're held as one of
the greatest Amateur wrestlers off all-time and even I tried my hand at amateur
wrestling at one time but a SPEAR to the coach later and my amateur wrestling
career was done as was his ability to walk.
So Angle, tonight you step into my ring, my domain, my world and you
will not be the first victim or the last victim but you are ... NEXT!" "My
Hero" by Foo Fighters sounded over the PA as the WPW Intercontinental
Champion, Kurt Angle emerged from the entrance... Kurt Angle:
"First things first, I resent your tone of voice, Goldberg. I was back there listening to you and you hit
one point right on the head, your Olympic Hero is the greatest Amateur Wrestler
of all-time and I am quickly becoming the greatest professional wrestler of
all-time! I'd also like to inform you
that my precious Intercontinental Title will *NOT* be on the line tonight due
to the simple fact that you, Goldberg, are not a worthy contender and another
thing, these people gave you a hero's reaction when you came out here and I, as
an American Hero, find that offensive because a true hero has the Three I's and
you, Bill Goldberg, only have one I and that's Intensity. You obviously lack intelligence and integrity
or you would've stayed wherever you were the past month and not shown your ugly
face on 'Elite' Television again and that my friends, is true!" Goldberg: "If
you're done running your mouth why don't you bring your heroic ass down into
this ring and let's not wait until later tonight..." Kurt Angle:
"Uhh...uhh...As much as I'd...uhh..love to come down there and
teach you a lesson right now ... I ... uhhh ... I've got a photo shoot in the
back that I'm running late for, it's true, it's true." Kurt Angle turns and walks to the back... Goldberg:
"Just like I thought, another coward along the lines of Mick
Foley. Both of you are scared and both
of you should remember these three words ... FEAR ... THE SPEAR!" Ric Flair:
"Ladies and gentlemen ... GOLDBERG!" We went to a
commercial break then came back to arena as Scott Hudson and Jerry 'The King'
Lawler welcomed us to the show as tonight in a match booked by Owner Mick
Foley, Booker T will team with Mike Awesome to face Kidman and Ken
Shamrock. Also booked by Foley, Triple H
will face Sting, non-title in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. Goldberg and Kurt Angle in the Main Event
plus a whole lot more this week on WPW Sunday Night... Opening Match: Kaz Hayashi (c) v. Tony Mamaluke - WPW
Television Title. "Stayin'
Alive" by Wyclef Jean brought out Tony Mamaluke of The Full Blooded
Italians. Then, "Somebody
Someone" by KoRn blared over the PA as the WPW Television Champion, Kaz
Hayashi made his way out to the ring.
Hayashi and Mamaluke had a high flying match with lots of dangerous
moves which was a good way to start off the action this evening. The fans were amazed at Mamaluke's career
risking dives onto Hayashi while Kaz kept it more simple but still effective. Mamaluke tried a Tornado DDT but Hayashi
threw him off then climbed the turnbuckle and hit a moonsault bodyblock. Hayashi went out to the apron and nailed his
Slingshot DDT on Mamaluke for the one, two, and three. Kaz Hayashi retains his WPW Television Title. WINNER: Kaz Hayashi in 3:49. Rating: ** 1/2 (Kaz Hayashi retained the WPW Television Title.) As we went to break, we saw The Acolytes exit their
office and make their way through the back, their match is up next... Backstage: -We returned from break to see Mikey Whipwreck and Tajiri
wandering around the backstage area when they stumbled upon a table with a
cooler on it. Not knowing this was the
aPa Offices, Whipwreck opened the cooler to reveal it full of beer. Tajiri said, "BEER-Uh!" Whipwreck nodded, grabbed the cooler and
walked away with Tajiri.. Match #2: Al Snow & Steve Blackman v. The
Acolytes. "What Is Fight
Club?" by Dust Brothers brought the sadistic team of Al Snow and Steve
Blackman out to the ring first. Then,
"Ironman" by Black Sabbath blasted through the loudspeakers as The
Acolytes came down to the ring ready for a fight. Snow and Blackman tried to counter the power
and brawling of Faarooq and Bradshaw with mat wrestling and did an OK job but
the power of The Acolytes came through in the end. Bradshaw and Faarooq went for the Stuff Power
Bomb on Snow but Blackman came in and hit Bradshaw with the Pump Kick. Faarooq clotheslined Blackman out but then
walked into the Snow Plow by Al Snow.
The referee didn't count as Faarooq wasn't the legal man. Snow got up but got drilled with the
Clothesline From Hell by Bradshaw for the one...two...three! The Acolytes are victorious... WINNERS: The Acolytes in 3:03. Rating: 1/2* Backstage: -Michael Cole brought in Dean Malenko for an explanation
about his alliance with Al Snow and Steve Blackman last week. Malenko said he joined forces with them
because they're the only other serious wrestlers in WPW that don't get any hype
or flashy entrances and don't want any.
Malenko said that they're his type of wrestlers and they're going to
take out the 'flash in the pan' trio of the Jung Dragons at the Pay-Per-View
then he'll get his Television Title back.
Malenko closed by saying tonight whether Chris Benoit is/was his friend
and even if they were Horsemen together, Malenko doesn't care if he makes
Benoit suffer... -We came back from a break as The Acolytes returned to
the aPa offices after their match to find that their post-match beer was
missing. This sent Bradshaw and Faarooq
into a tirade and they went off to find the culprits... Match #3: Dean Malenko v. Chris Benoit. "Change" by Deftones brought out
the former WPW TV Champion, 'The Shooter' Dean Malenko to the ring first. Then, "Surfacing" by Slipknot
blasted over the PA as 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit headed out to the ring. Benoit offered Malenko a handshake to start
but Malenko declined. Malenko and Benoit
delievered an excellent match showing that both men are two of the best pure
wrestlers in WPW and the world. The
match was mainly on the mat with some brawling as both men tried to wear down
the other for their submission finishing maneuvers. The end would see Malenko hit a superplex on
Benoit and both men were down. Malenko
put an arm on Benoit for two. Malenko
then set up Benoit for a tiger driver but Benoit fought it. Malenko kneed Benoit then hit the tiger
driver. Malenko went to the legs for the
Texas Cloverleaf but Benoit reached up and rolled up Malenko. The same way that Malenko lost his TV Title
but Malenko kicked out this time. Both
men up and Benoit goes for a running lariat but Malenko ducks and goes for a
german suplex, go-behind by Benoit and Benoit dumps Malenko on his head with a
DRAGON SUPLEX! Benoit released the pin
and slapped on the Crippler Crossface!
Malenko had no choice but to tap out to the hold! Chris Benoit takes the victory in a great
match. WINNER: Chris Benoit in 8:19. Rating: *** 3/4 Backstage: -We followed Sinister Minister down a hallway as yelled
for Whipwreck and Tajiri to get out there as their match is next. Minister opened the dressing room door to
find Tajiri and Mikey sprawled out on the floor amongst many empties and a near
empty cooler. Minister told them to get
their act together as they have a match next.
Tajiri responded with a belch while Whipwreck said, "Sure, let's go
wrestle..." in a slurred voice. The
two barely got to their feet and stumbled out of the dressing room as Sinister
Minister had a "What the f---?" look on his face... Match #4: Jung Dragons v. The Unholy Alliance. "Somebody Someone" by KoRn brought
Jinsei Shinzaki and Tatsuhito Takaiwa of the Jung Dragons out to the ring
first. Then, "Bombtrack" by
Rage Against The Machine blared over the PA as Sinister Minister walked out but
there was no Tajiri or Whipwreck.
Minister walked back through the curtain and this time, Tajiri and
Whipwreck stumbled out and were hugging fans on the way to the ring. They finally got into the ring and we cut
backstage to see The Acolytes watching on the monitor and discovering who stole
their beer. The match began with the
Jung Dragons in control on the drunk Unholy Alliance. Whipwreck and Tajiri were just out of it and
could barely stand. "IRONMAN"
by Black Sabbath blasted over the loudspeakers as The Acolytes ran into the ring. Bradshaw hit Takaiwa with a big boot while
Faarooq took out Shinzaki with a spinebuster.
The Acolytes then focused on Tajiri and Whipwreck. The Acolytes just beat the living hell out of
the two men. Tajiri got a Double
Spinebuster while Whipwreck got the Stuff Power Bomb. WINNERS: No Contest in 1:10. Rating: * 1/4 Bradshaw would then grab a microphone... Bradshaw:
"That should teach you two dumbasses the golden rule when it comes
to The Acolytes, NEVER steal our beer!" "La
Raza" blared over the PA as Eddy Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera and Papi
Chulo of the Latino World Order made their way out to the ring where Guerrero
took a microphone... Eddy Guerrero:
"Last week, Masato Tanaka, you embarrased me and you embarrassed
the Latino World Order and that's something you DON'T DO, esey! YOU DON'T MAKE ME LOOK BAD! And you're not going to get away with it so
looking at my calender, November 11th, Manchester, England, me and you,
amigo! One on one and I'm GONNA KICK
YOUR ASS, man! You want to be a big
shot? Well show up in England, man and
I'll show you that you DON'T embarass EDDY GUERRERO and get away with it!" 'D A N G U N'
sounded as Masato Tanaka walked out of the entrance and gave Guerrero the
double bird. Tanaka ran into the ring
and started brawling with Guerrero until Juvy and Papi jumped him. The three beatdown on Tanaka until THE HARDY
BOYZ ran out and made the save running off the LWO! Guerrero would pick up a microphone... Eddy Guerrero:
"That's twice! DIDN'T I tell you!
DON'T MAKE ME LOOK BAD! Hardyz,
you skinny Hanson rejects, Juvy y Papi are gonna take your titles in England,
man but tonight, you want to help out Masato Tanaka? You want to jump on the LWO? SIX MAN TAG!
TONIGHT!" Match #5: Kidman & Ken Shamrock v. Booker T &
Mike Awesome. "Rollin'" by
Limp Bizkit blared over the loudspeakers as The Elite's Kidman and Ken Shamrock
made their way out to the ring to a chorus of boos from the crowd. Then, "Awesome" by Reckless Fortune
blared over the loudspeakers as Mike Awesome stepped out of the entrance. Awesome went right into the ring and faced
the double team of Kidman and Shamrock until "One More Road" by DMX
blared over the PA and Booker T ran into the ring and helped Awesome clear it
of Kidman and Shamrock. Booker T looked
at Awesome and the two had a stare down until Shamrock and Kidman came back in
and attacked. Kidman threw Booker out
while Shamrock worked over Awesome.
During this match, Awesome and Booker T kept making blind tags wanting
to get in and get a piece of Kidman and Shamrock. The closing moments of the match would see
Mike Awesome nail a Sitout Awesome Bomb on Shamrock then signalled for an
Awesome Splash but Booker T tagged himself in.
Awesome shoved Booker T then Booker T clotheslined Awesome out of the
ring. Awesome landed on his feet and
Booker T leaned over yelling at him and Awesome nailed Booker in the face. Booker T staggered around and KID KRUSHER! Kidman caught Booker T with his Kid Krusher
and made the cover ... ONE! TWO! THREE!
Kidman steals the pinfall over Booker T.
WINNERS: The Elite in 5:10. Rating: *** 1/2 After the match, Awesome came in and got double teamed by
Kidman and Shamrock. Booker T got his
wits together and helped clear the ring of Kidman and Shamrock then Awesome and
Booker T went at it again until WPW officials broke them up... Backstage: -Michael Cole brought in Scotty "Too Hotty"
Taylor. Taylor said he thought he
would've finished things last week with Brian Christopher but he should've
known Christopher would pull a stunt like that.
Taylor challenged Christopher to show up in England and settle it in a
Manchester Death Match. No Holds Barred. Pinfalls count. Submissions count. After the fall the wrestler has a TEN count
to get to his feet or else he loses.
Trish Stratus then walked into the interview and started going off at
Scotty for kissing her last week saying she should file for a restraining order
and Scotty is a pervert. This was just a
setup for Brian Christopher to jump Taylor from behind with a trash can laying
Scotty out. Christopher said that if
Taylor didn't understand that was his way of saying, 'I ACCEPT!' Match #6: Latino World Order v. The Hardy Boyz &
Masato Tanaka. "La Raza"
sounded over the PA as the Latino World Order of Eddy Guerrero, Juventud
Guerrera and Papi Chulo made their way out to the ring for the six man
tag. Then, "Break Stuff" by
Limp Bizkit blared over the PA as the WPW World Tag Team Champions, The Hardy
Boyz and their partner, Masato Tanaka headed out to the ring. This would be a high flying lucha style six
man tag between the two teams with lots of emotion. The Hardyz will defend their titles against
Juvy and Papi at Manchester Massacre while Eddy Guerrero will take on Masato
Tanaka. The closing moments of the match
would see Jeff Hardy and Juventud Guerrera going at it. Juvy hit a running power bomb on Jeff that
brought Matt in. Matt decked Juvy with a
clothesline then Papi came in and dropkicked Matt sending him to the
floor. Papi then hit a Tornado Dive on
Matt! Jeff would cover Juvy but Eddy
came in to break it up. Masato Tanaka
came in but Eddy ducked a Roaring Elbow and backdropped Tanaka out of the
ring. Jeff Hardy went up top for the
Swanton Bomb on Guerrera but Eddy shoved him off. Juventud Guerrera got up and tagged in
Eddy. Eddy went up top as Juvy picked up
Jeff and hit a JUVY DRIVER! Guerrero
then came off with the Frog Splash on Jeff Hardy for the one, two, and
THREE! The Latino World Order scores a
victory in this Six Man Tag heading into Manchester Massacre. WINNERS: Latino World Order in 5:31. Rating: *** 3/4 The lights went
out and we counted down, "5..4..3..2..1" then the pyro went off as
"Break Down The Walls" blared over the loudspeakers. "Y2J" Chris Jericho stepped out of
the entrance and made his way out to the ring where he took a microphone... Chris Jericho:
"Welcome to ... SUNDAY .. NIGHT ... JERICHO! For the past four months, Y2J has been a man
brainwashed by the money, the power, and the respect that Mick Foley promised
but I've since realized that that money, that power and that respect is useless
when you don't fully earn it and when you don't have the respect of you, the
fans. Now I know that you may not trust
me, Goldberg may not trust me, Sting might not trust me and Benoit might not
trust and that's fine with me because after the heinous acts that Y2J has
perpetrated over the past months, I can't blame them. So what Y2J has to do is *EARN* that trust
and show each and everyone of you that Chris Jericho is worthy of his spot in
this business and that starts at Manchester Massacre against The Elite..." "ONE! TWO!
ZIS ON?!" sounded over the PA as 'The Game' Triple H, the WPW World
Heavyweight Champion, walked out of the entrance with a microphone... Triple H:
"Chris Jericho, I was sitting back there shining my World
Heavyweight Title and counting my money when I heard you out here running your
mouth. As usual, you talk a good game,
Jericho but when it comes to that ring, I am The Game. That is my ring and that is why I am in The
Elite and why I am the World Heavyweight Champion because I am simply that DAMN
GOOD. You see, Jericho, I'm not the flavor
of the month like you were, I am the top of this sport, I am the World Heavyweight
Champion, a pinnacle which if I have anything to do about it you will never
reach again. As for Manchester Massacre,
there's a reason we're 'The Elite' and a reason that you, Sting, Benoit and
Goldberg aren't and we'll prove it once again..." Chris Jericho:
"Listen, JACKASS! Just SHUT
the HELL UP! Remember the ways you've
reached your pinnacle, Trip, and think about that. While you may be The Game, you are nothing to
me and you are nothing to these fans.
While you may be Mick Foley's current brownosers at Manchester Massacre,
you step into the ring with the real Elite and you will get the Y2J beating of
your life..." Triple H:
"Real Elite? What a friggin'
joke. Goldberg? Nowhere near my
level. You? That's a laugh. Chris Benoit? Another Canadian, eh? Sting?" The lights went
out and when they came back on Sting was standing right infront of Triple
H. Sting nailed Triple H and a referee
came out and called for the bell. Our
Falls Count Anyhwere, Non-Title match has apparently gotten underway... Match #7: WPW World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H v.
Sting - Falls Count Anywhere - Non-Title.
Sting worked over Triple H ontop of the stage for a little bit until
dragging him down and throwing him in the ring.
The two brawled and wrestled in the ring for a few minutes until it
spilled back out to the floor now with Triple H in control. The Game took Sting up the ramp and they
brawled into the backstage area. This
was an intense brawl which saw both men punish eachother with hard shots. There wasn't much wrestling or many moves in
this match, just brawling. The closing
moments of the match would see Sting and Triple H brawl into a hallway where
Sting hit Triple H's head into a door.
The door opened and a man stood there in a 'Sting mask' dressed like
Sting used to. Sting looked puzzled then
Triple H hit a low blow and the 'Sting' cracked Sting over the back with a
ballbat twice. Triple H then delievered
the Pedigree on the cold hard concrete floor for the one ... two ... THREE! Triple H has won this falls count anywhere
match against Sting. WINNER: Triple H in 5:26. Rating: ** 1/4 Afterwards, the 'Sting' pulled off his mask and
trenchcoat to reveal who else but KIDMAN.
Kidman started putting the boots to Sting until CHRIS JERICHO came out
of an adjacent dressing room and hammered away on Kidman and Triple H for a few
seconds before WPW officials got in between them... Backstage: -Michael Cole was backstage with the Owner of WPW, Mick
Foley. Cole asked Foley about the
stipulation that if Goldberg's team wins at the PPV, Goldberg gets 5 minutes
with Foley. Foley agreed to these
stipulations but threw in some of his own that if Goldberg's team is to lose
the match, which they will, Ric Flair is stripped of all his Commissioner
power... Main Event: WPW Intercontinental Champion, Kurt Angle v.
Goldberg - Non-Title. It was then time
for our Main Event of the evening as "My Hero" by Foo Fighters
sounded over the PA as the WPW Intercontinental Champion, Kurt Angle made his
way out to the ring first. Then,
"Invasion..." hit as Goldberg headed out to the ring. Angle tried stalling but Goldberg grabbed him
in a lock up and sent him into the ropes.
Angle hit Goldberg with a shoulderblock but Goldberg barely budged an
inch. Goldberg kicked Angle then took
him down into a leg hammerlock. Angle
managed to reach the ropes. Goldberg
nailed Angle with a few shots then tried to pick him up for a gorilla press but
Angle blocked it and hammered away on Goldberg's back. Angle unleashed with right hands and tried a
clothesline but Goldberg countered it with a powerslam. Goldberg hit some elbows and punches then a
went for a savate kick but Angle countered it with a legsweep. Angle chose to celebrate this rather then
make a cover. Angle tried to send
Goldberg into the ropes but Goldberg reversed it and took down Angle with a
spienbuster followed by a belly-to-belly for two. Goldberg hit Angle a few more times until
Angle caught Goldberg with a dropkick.
Angle hit a fireman's carry into a cross arm breaker but Goldberg
powered out. Goldberg hit Angle with a
clothesline then a screwdriver neckbreaker.
Goldberg went for his pumphandle suplex but Angle landed ontop of
Goldberg and got a two count. The match
continued on back and forth between the superstars for several minutes until
Goldberg whipped Angle into the ropes and caught him in a powerslam. Goldberg lined up Angle for the spear but
Angle ducked out to the outside. Angle
rolled back in and locked up with Goldberg.
Angle went to the eyes and then nailed a DDT. Angle took Goldberg up top and hit a
belly-to-belly superplex! Angle
over-celebrated but Goldberg popped up and caught Angle with the SPEAR~! Goldberg then drilled Angle with the
JACKHAMMER for the one ... two ... THREE! WINNER: Goldberg in 6:50. Rating: ** 1/2 Afterwards, Triple H, Kidman and Ken Shamrock ran into
the ring and started pounding away on Goldberg.
Goldberg tried to fight him off but The Elite was just too strong laying
out Goldberg. CHRIS JERICHO and CHRIS
BENOIT ran into the ring and helped out Goldberg. Jericho took Angle to the outside while
Benoit took Shamrock out. The lights
went out and Sting dropped from the ceiling!
Sting cleaned house of Kidman taking him to the outside. That left Triple H and Goldberg. Triple H got up after being hit by Sting
while Goldberg popped up around the same time.
Triple H looked dead on at Goldberg while Goldberg said, "YOU'RE
NEXT!" to end the show... ==-==-==-==-==-==-== WPW News & Notes-: ==-==-==-==-==-==-== -Chris Jericho resigned for 52 cards. (YEAH!) -Stoker Ichikawa was not resigned... -Mr. Perfect was not resigned... -WPW has Manchester Massacre on November 11th, 2000 at
