WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - June 18 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- [The show opened with clips of last week as Triple H said
that the only way Goldberg would get a title shot at Breakdown was if he beat
Kidman that night in a NHB Match with Triple H as referee. Goldberg would Jackhammer Kidman but HHH
refused to count. Goldberg speared
Triple H, put Kidman down again and a 2nd referee ran in and counted the
three. Triple H tried to DQ Goldberg and
reverse the decision but as per HHH's instructions the match was NHB so
Goldberg will challenge Triple H for the WPW World Heavyweight Title at
Breakdown...] We then cut live outside the arena as a black limo pulled
up and out came D-Generation X; Triple H, Kidman, Road Dogg, and X-Pac. The four men headed into the arena as we cut
to... ("Spit It Out" by Slipknot played in the
background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 graphic comes up on the screen then
fades away but not completely as a fast paced montage of WPW action including;
Jeff Jarrett KO'ing Rikishi with a guitar, The Acolytes Double Team Power
Bombing X-Pac, Sting hitting a Scorpion Death Drop on Ric Flair, Diamond Dallas
Page putting Sting through a table with a Diamond Cutter, Chris Jericho with
Eddy Guerrero in the Walls Of Jericho, a Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy on Shane
Helms, Ric Flair with Sting in the Figure Four Leglock, Triple H hitting the
Pedigree on Ken Shamrock, Billy Kidman plastering Ric Flair in the head with a
chair and much, much more. The WPW
Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo fades back into full then explodes...) Opening Match: Dean Malenko v. Jeff Jarrett - WPW
Television Title Tournament Finals.
"Surfacing" by Slipknot sounded over the loudspeakers as 'The
Shooter' Dean Malenko headed out to the ring to go after the TV Title. Then, "Cowboy" by Kid Rock blared
over the PA and out came 'Double J' Jeff Jarrett to the ring. This would be a classic scientific match
between two technical wrestlers. They
went at it for a good length of time in a good match to crown the first ever
WPW Television Champion. The closing
moments of the match would see Jarrett go for a piledriver on Malenko but
Malenko pulled the legs out from under Jarrett and locked him in the Texas
Cloverleaf. Out of the crowd came a
woman ... that's ... STACEY CARTER ... Jarrett's former valet. Malenko let go of the Cloverleaf and told her
to get the hell out of here. The referee
tried to make her leave and Jarrett grabbed his guitar and plastered Malenko
over the head with it. Jarrett kicked
the rubble out of the ring then made the cover as the referee turned around and
counted the one ... two ... THREE! Jeff
Jarrett is the WPW TELEVISION CHAMPION!
Stacey entered the ring and raised Jarrett's arm and they hugged as
Jarrett celebrated with his new belt. WINNER: Jeff Jarrett in 6:48. Rating: ** 3/4 (Jeff Jarrett won the WPW Television Title.) "Dirty
Deeds" by AC/DC blared over the loudspeakers as Hardcore Holly and Crash
Holly headed out to the ring where Hardcore Holly took a microphone... Hardcore Holly:
"3Count, you three (censored) have gone and dug your own graves
when you pissed off Hardcore Holly. You
see, these people and us are sick and tired of your crappy singing and prissy
ways. Being the super heavyweights that
we are we'll take all three of you punks on in a Hardcore Match and believe me,
you're going to get your asses kicked." Match #2: Crash & Hardcore Holly v. 3Count - Handicap
Hardcore Match. The lights went out and
a spotlight came over the entrance as 3Count came out and started performing on
the top of the ramp. They were quickly
joined by Crash and Hardcore as the fight began. The brawl would shortly head to the backstage
area as the five men stayed around eachother and didn't break up. They brawled throw a door and inside was the
offices of the aPa. Shane Helms threw
Crash right into the make shift door knocking it down. Faarooq and Bradshaw were not too pleased
with 3Count and began kicking their asses.
Faarooq placed Shane and Shannon on the table then Bradshaw power bombed
Evan through both men and the table!
Hardcore Holly and Crash Holly would then cover 3Count for the
one-two-three! The Holly Cousins win the
Hardcore Match as The Acolytes further beating up 3Count. WINNERS: Hardcore Holly and Crash Holly in 4:08. Rating: 3/4* The cameras cut
outside the arena to see a Dodge Viper speed up and out stepped Goldberg. Goldberg headed into the arena as Michael
Cole ran up to him and asked for his comments about teaming with Flair in the
Main Event... Goldberg: "If
I've got to team with Ric Flair tonight to get at Triple H then that's what
I'll do because Triple H, I'm running through your ass again TONIGHT!" Triple H then walked right up in Goldberg's face and just
stared him down then shoved Goldberg and Goldberg went at Triple H but WPW
officials came between them as Triple H yelled at Goldberg saying that he's
going down tonight. "What Is
Fight Club?" by Dust Brothers sounded over the loudspeakers as the
psychotic Al Snow stalked his way out to the ring where a nervous Michael Cole
was standing. Snow had his hair died
(highlighted) again and it was hanging over his face as he walked into the ring
and stood next to Cole. Cole: "Al
Snow, what happened? Why did you snap?" Snow then grabbed
Cole by the neck of his shirt and held him near Snow's face. Snow: "Just
hold the microphone and you won't get hurt." Cole: "Ok,
please.." Snow: "SHUT
UP! All of you SHUT UP!" Snow then shoved Cole down and took the microphone as
Cole ran for higher ground... Snow: "I have
not snapped, I did not snap, I was just saw the light. What I saw was the light to success. I'm tired of walking around the back and
hearing people snicker behind my back.
I'm tired of being a comedy wrestler.
I'm tired of people saying that Al Snow is so underrated and
underpushed. I'm sick of it all and I'm
sick of what I became. I was a follower,
a paltry Horsemen led by Ric Flair's skeleton.
And do you know who's responsible for all this? EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU! [crowd.] You don't respect my ability, you don't see
how dangerous a man I am but you see now I don't give a damn about you, I don't
give a damn about entertaining you, Al Snow, from this day forward will be name
that will be synomous with pain. Each
and every wrestler in the back will no longer laugh at the thought of wrestling
Al Snow because wins don't matter, losses don't matter to me, all that matters
is inflicting pain and suffering. I'm
not psychotic, infact, for the first time in my life, I'm sane." "This Is
How We Do It" by Montel Jordan interrupted Al Snow as Rikishi walked out
to the stage with a microphone... Rikishi: "Al
Snow, you psycho bastard, you want to prove how dangerous you are? Well Rikishi's gonna back this ass up right
into your ugly face..." Match #3: Al Snow v. Rikishi. Rikishi headed into the ring and Al Snow
attacked as a referee ran out and our next match was on. Snow went to work on the knee of Rikishi as
was his target on Steve Blackman.
Rikishi would power back and work over Snow with his power then knock
Snow down in the corner and go for the Stinky Face but Snow low blowed Rikishi
then rolled out of the ring and grabbed a chair. Snow rolled back in then cracked Rikishi over
the head causing a DQ. Snow didn't give
a damn as he then went to work on the knee of Rikishi driving the chair into it
then finally dropped the chair and looked kind of calm before slapping Rikishi
into the Cross Knee Scissors! Rikishi
yelled in pain and soon Too Cool would bolt out from the back and help out
Rikishi. Rikishi was in bad shape as
Snow backed from the ring up the ramp with a grin on his face. Yeah, Al Snow, you're not psychotic, you
haven't snapped, SURE! WINNER: Rikishi by DQ in 2:18. Rating: 1/2* We cut backstage
to Eddy Guerrero and Kurt Angle walking through the back talking strategy... Match #4: Booker T & Diamond Dallas Page v. Eddy
Guerrero & Kurt Angle. "Up In
Here" by DMX blasted through the speakers as the WPW Intercontinental
Champion, Booker T made his way out to the ring. Then, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by
Nirvana played and out came his partner, the man he beat last week Diamond
Dallas Page. Booker T didn't look ready
to trust DDP at all but he's got to tag with him. "My Hero" by Foo Fighters then
brought out their opponents, 'The American Hero' Kurt Angle and 'El Gringo
Loco' Eddy Guerrero together to the ring.
This would be an interesting match as Booker and DDP didn't mesh well
but were effective while Eddy and Kurt fed off eachothers egos. The closing moments of the match would see
DDP hold Angle and make the tag to Booker T.
Booker T went for his Harlem Sidekick but Angle moved and Booker T
nailed DDP. Angle then hit the Angleplex
on Booker T and tagged in Eddy Guerrero.
Guerrero went up top and this time nailed the Frog Splash and held on
for the cover ... ONE! TWO! THREE! Eddy
Guerrero and Kurt Angle pick up the win as Guerrero pins the IC Champion! WINNERS: Eddy Guerrero and Kurt Angle in 7:28. Rating: **
"Surfacing" by Slipknot blasted through the loudspeakers as
The Four Horsemen in full force headed out to the ring, 'The Nature Boy' Ric
Flair, 'The Worlds Most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock, 'The Crippler' Chris
Benoit and 'The Shooter' Dean Malenko... Dean Malenko:
"Jeff Jarrett, you and that two cent slut, Stacey Carter robbed me
of my opportunity to become the WPW Television Champion but luckily for me and
not so lucky for you, Ted Dibiase has signed a rematch for us at
Breakdown. Jarrett, this time I won't be
so naive and look around me, I've got backup..." Ken Shamrock:
"When it comes to D-Generation X, Kidman, X-Pac, and Road Dogg at
Breakdown you're going to face myself, The Crippler and The Nature Boy. This war has gone on long enough and just ask
Triple H what the Ankle Lock is capable of because at Breakdown, if I get my
way, one of you punks is going to get their ankle snapped..." Chris Benoit:
"X-Pac, last week you got lucky and you pinned The Crippler with a
little help from that runt, Kidman. I'm
a man of few words and many actions so tonight, my revenge will be fitting of
your crimes..." Ric Flair:
"Let me wrap this up into a nice little package. Kidman, you must be tired because you've been
running around into every match we're involved in, you've been running your
mouth at every opportunity and you've shown how little of a man you are by
putting a roadblock between another match between us. Kidman, tonight, with Goldberg in my corner
and with god as my witness, if I get my hands on you, your not going to make it
to Breakdown, pal because I'm the Nature Boy and like it or not, I'm still the
best thing goin' today...WHOOOOOOO!" Match #5: Ken Shamrock v. Road Dogg. We returned with Ken Shamrock still in the
ring but The Horsemen gone. "The
Kings" by Run DMC blared over the loudspeakers as Road Dogg headed out to
the ring to face Shamrock. This would be
a back and forth match in the ongoing war between The Horseman and DX. The closing moments of the match would see
Road Dogg hit some juke'n'jivin' punches on Shamrock then go for a shakey knee
drop and nailed it for a two count. Road
Dogg then went for the Pumphandle Slam but Shamrock rolled out of it then
nailed Road Dogg with a leg lariat.
Shamrock then would go for the Ankle Lock but Road Dogg scurried to the
ropes. Road Dogg nailed Shamrock in the
stomach then got up but Shamrock hit a belly-to-belly then locked Road Dogg in
the Ankle Lock. Road Dogg had no choice
but to tap out. Shamrock released the
hold and warned Road Dogg saying he could've broken his ankle. WINNER: Ken Shamrock in 4:35. Rating: * 1/4 We went
backstage where Michael Cole got some comments from the World Tag Team
Champions, The Hardy Boyz... Jeff Hardy:
"Last week after we defended our titles against Eddy Guerrero and
Kurt Angle we were jumped by Too Cool.
Too Cool, we respect your abilities and what not but at Breakdown, we're
gonna be too extreme for you to handle..." Matt Hardy:
"Too Cool ... You can dance all you want but when it comes to the
World Tag Team Titles, this is the pinnacle of tag team wrestling and this is
our life. That's why we put our lives at
risk when defending these straps and Too Cool, you can try to take these away
from us but I don't think you can." Match #6: Matt Hardy v. Scottie Too Hottie. "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit
blasted over the loudspeakers as 1/2 of the WPW World Tag Team Champions, Matt
Hardy headed out to the ring along with his brother Jeff. Matt would tell Jeff to go to the back
because he's got this one himself.
"This Is How We Do It" by Montel Jordan blared over the PA as
Scottie Too Hottie came out with Grandmaster Sexay but Scottie took Matt's lead
and sent Sexay to the back. Matt Hardy
and Scottie Too Hottie got in on in a really good mat match with a little bit
of high flying from both men. The
closing moments of the match would see Matt Hardy go for the Twist Of Fate but
Scottie countered it with a northern lights suplex. Scottie went up top and went to catch Matt
with the Diving DDT but the referee got caught in mid fire and went down. Scottie then hit a regular DDT on Matt. That's when out of the crowd came AL SNOW
with a kendo stick. Snow cracked it
against the knee of Scottie then locked him in a Cross Knee Scissors for a few
seconds really cranking on it then let go and left through the crowd. Matt Hardy got to his feet then nailed the
Twist Of Fate on Scottie for the one...two...THREE! Matt Hardy gains the win over Scottie Too
Hottie. WINNER: Matt Hardy in 5:44. Rating: * Match #7: X-Pac v. Chris Benoit. "X-PAAAAAAAC" was heard as out came
D-Generation X's X-Pac to the ring for our next matchup. Then, "Surfacing" by Slipknot brought
out the dangerous, "Crippler" Chris Benoit. This would be a very good fast paced match as
Benoit kept up with X-Pac's quickness.
Benoit was prepared for X-Pac's fancy footwork and used a few dragon
screw leg whips to soften up X-Pac and slow him down. Benoit also went to X-Pac's neck which is
always a target on X-Pac due to his past problems. X-Pac would go the air and try not to brawl
too much with Benoit. The closing
moments of the match would see Benoit go for a snap suplex but X-Pac blocked it
then whipped Benoit into the corner and hit a spin kick flooring Benoit. X-Pac went for the Bronco Buster but Benoit
moved out of the way. Benoit then picked
up X-Pac and threw him with a german suplex.
Benoit quickly locked X-Pac in the Crippler Crossface and X-Pac had no
choice but to tap out. WINNER: Chris Benoit in 9:23 Rating: *** 3/4 We cut backstage where we saw Triple H and Kidman exit
the DX locker room. We then cut to Sting
coming out of his dressing room then Chris Jericho out of his, the two walked
together but a few steps apart. We then
cut to Ric Flair congradulating Benoit then headed through the back. We then cut to a shot of a locker room door
with "GOLDBERG" on it, there was a crack on the door then it was
kicked open as out came Goldberg. The
Main Event is next... Main Event: Triple H & Kidman v. Sting & Chris
Jericho v. Goldberg & Ric Flair.
"ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!" sounded as out of the entrance emerged
the WPW World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H and Kidman. Then, "Seek And Destroy" by
Metallica brought Sting out to the ring.
We counted down and "Y2J" Chris Jericho would join his tag
team partner in the ring. "Sprach
Zarathrustra" sounded as Ric Flair made his way into the ring and went
right after Kidman and the fight was on as the five men brawled away until
"INVASION" hit and Goldberg came through the pyro then charged into
the ring and cleared the ring of Sting, then Jericho and Triple H while Flair
sent Kidman to the outside. Goldberg and
Flair backed into eachother then turned around and were eye-to-eye until Sting
and Chris Jericho jumped in and attacked while Triple H and Kidman went to
their corner. The crowd was through the
roof in this match as six of the biggest stars in the WPW went at it. The closing moments of the match would see
Goldberg and Sting going at it. Triple H
went around to ringside and grabbed a chair.
Sting sent Goldberg into the corner and hit a Stinger Splash. Sting went for another but Goldberg caught
Sting and threw him out of the corner.
Kidman tried to come in but the ref stopped him. Triple H then plastered Goldberg in the head
with a chair shot. Triple H disposed of
the chair and went back to his corner.
Sting saw this but the ref didn't.
Sting refused to cover Goldberg while Chris Jericho yelled at Sting to
cover him but Sting shook his head.
Jericho then smacked Sting who turned around and got speared by
Goldberg! Goldberg then drove Sting into
the mat with the Jackhammer for the one ... two ... THREE! Goldberg and Flair are victorious! WINNERS: Goldberg and Ric Flair in 10:23. Rating: ** 3/4 After the match, Chris Jericho was really pissed off and
just walked away from the ring up the ramp.
Flair went after Kidman while Goldberg backed Triple H away. Triple H retreated promising that next week
