WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - June 4 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- A black screen with white text reading "WPW
AGGRESSION" opened the show and that cut into stills of the show with
voice overs recapping the show. The
Acolytes gained revenge defeating Road Dogg and X-Pac. Jeff Jarrett got the Stinky Face but also got
the win over Rikishi. Chris Benoit and
Dean Malenko gained entry to The Four Horsemen by defeating Al Snow and Steve
Blackman and taking their spots. Snow
would then snap on Blackman. Kurt Angle
ripped on Philadelphia and then would take on Sting. DDP mistimed his interference which led to
Sting defeating Angle. Angle and DDP had
a confrontation after the match with DDP decking Angle. Booker T defeated Eddy Guerrero to capture
the WPW Intercontinental Title. Kurt
Angle interfered in the DDP-Chris Jericho match laying out both men. Jericho would be able to pull out the win
with a Lionsault. The Hardy Boyz won a
Three Way Dance over 3Count and Too Cool to retain the WPW World Tag Team
Titles. Billy Kidman got a surprise win
over Ric Flair in their Lumberjack Match after Flair's head hit the exposed
turnbuckle steel and Kidman rolled him up.
In the Main Event, Maurice Smith had to remove a psychotic Shamrock from
Triple H as Shamrock refused to release the Ankle Lock on a rope break. Triple H capitilized with a low blow and a
Pedigree to retain the World Heavyweight Title which brings us to tonight... ("Spit It Out" by Slipknot played in the
background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 graphic comes up on the screen then
fades away but not completely as a fast paced montage of WPW action including;
Jeff Jarrett KO'ing Rikishi with a guitar, The Acolytes Double Team Power
Bombing Blue Meanie, Sting hitting a Scorpion Death Drop on Ric Flair, Diamond
Dallas Page putting Sting through a table with a Diamond Cutter, Chris Jericho
with Eddy Guerrero in the Walls Of Jericho, a Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy on
Shane Helms, Ric Flair with Sting in the Figure Four Leglock, Triple H hitting
the Pedigree on Ken Shamrock, Billy Kidman plastering Ric Flair in the head
with a chair and much, much more. The
WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo fades back into full then explodes...) We enter the arena live as fireworks go off then we hear
"ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!" as the lights dim and out walks the WPW World
Heavyweight Champion, 'The Game' Triple H on crutches with his ankle taped
up. Triple H made his way into the ring
without DX and would take a microphone... Triple H:
"Last night, not only did I defeat Ken Shamrock but I did it on one
leg. Shamrock, maybe you don't
understand the concept of rope breaks but because of you I can't wrestle here
tonight but I don't give a damn because I'm done with you. I've beaten everyone that's been thrown my
way since I walked into this promotion proving without a doubt that I am the
Game. Hell, I've beaten everyone to
death and I demand to know who the hell WPW thinks they can throw at the World
Heavyweight Champion next. I don't care
who it is, hell, they don't even have to be in the WPW but I demand to know
right here and right now who my challenger on July 8th at WPW Breakdown will
be. I know none of you in the back have
the balls to face The Game, even on one good leg, I can still kick all of your
asses because I am that DAMN GOOD..." The lights then flickered and went out... Triple H:
"That's really funny, yeah, that's really creative, turn the damn
lights back on now..." The lights came back up... Triple H:
"Whoever did that, I'm coming back there to kick your ..." Triple H was interrupted by... . . . . . 'INVASION...' Triple H's eyes bulged and he started shaking his head as
out of the entrance and pyro walked none other then, GOLDBERG!!! Goldberg walked out of the entrance to a
massive pop as he pulled his shirt off and flexed. Goldberg had a microphone.. Goldberg:
"Triple H, listen and listen well, I was in the back talking to
some buddies, I wasn't really here to wrestle, hell, I ain't even signed a damn
contract yet but when I heard you out here running your mouth and looking for a
fight, hell, I'm always looking for a fight.
So what I'm saying is, that at Breakdown, you're going to walk your
scraggly little ass down to the ring and put that World Heavyweight Title on
the line against me, Goldberg." Triple H: "No
way, no chance in hell, there is no way that you're getting a shot at my gold,
there's no chance Goldberg, so why don't you get your ass outta here." Goldberg:
"Triple H, you've got something running down your back, it's yellow
because you're a scared bastard. I knew
you'd be an asshole about this so I brought a little documentation signed by
the very Commissioner of WPW, Mr. Ted Dibiase and it states that on July 8th,
YOUR NEXT!" Triple H: "DAMNIT Goldberg! Wait a minute... You're looking for a fight, right?" Goldberg:
"Are you deaf or something?
Your damn right I'm looking for a fight..." Triple H:
"Fine, then you've got one here tonight, you against Road Dogg, X-Pac
and Kidman. If you can find a couple of
partners go ahead and bring them but I doubt you'll find anyone dumb enough to
team with you and at Breakdown, I will retain my World Heavyweight Title
because I am the Game and I am..." Goldberg:
"Shut the hell up! That
fight sounds good to me because tonight, partners or no partners, I'm running
through D-Generation X and then your ass is MINE!" Goldberg has walked right into World Pro-Wrestling and
changed the course of the promotion accepting the challenge of Triple H and
apparently Goldberg will debut tonight in the Main Event against D-Generation
X. What a night this has been and is
shaping up to be... Opening Match: Hardcore Holly v. Evan Karagias - WPW
Television Title Tournament (First Round).
This would be a grudge match as well as a tournament match as Hardcore
Holly has made Evan Karagias and 3Count his target since arriving in WPW at the
call of his cousin, Crash. This would be
a solid but unspectacular match as the two men went at it. The finish of the match would see Evan
Karagias nail a DDT on Holly then go up top for the Tidal Wave but Holly rolled
out of the way. Holly would then pick up
Karagias and drill him with the Hollycaust to score the one-two-three. Hardcore Holly advances in the TV Title
Tournament. After the match, Crash Holly
hit the ring with a trash can and went to work on Karagias. Shannon Moore and Shane Helms of 3Count
bolted out to the aid of their partner but as soon as they hit the ring, THE
ACOLYTES were out and beat down 3Count?!
The Acolytes had their black gloves on which means that Crash Holly had
bought the services of the aPa. WINNER: Hardcore Holly in 3:30. Rating: 3/4* We went backstage
where Michael Cole was with Too Cool... Scottie: "You
know last night we may have been beaten but The Hardy Boyz, it wasn't you that
beat us and we want a title match, a tag team match without that sissy 3Count
screwing things up." Grandmaster:
"Yo, yo, yo, Hardyz we're too legit to quit and Too Cool to go
without the World Tag Team Titles and right here tonight we're gonna bitch slap
those Acolytes and get another crack at your gold, Hardyz. After we get the shot, we won't be Too Cool,
no more daddy, we'll be two champs!" Match #2: Jeff Jarrett v. Rikishi - WPW Television Title Tournament (First
Round). This would be a rematch from
last night as Rikishi would get another chance at the sneaky 'Double J'. Rikishi would dominate this match against
Jarrett as he took out his frustrations for losing last night at Aggression to
Jarrett. The finish of this one would
see Rikishi use the Stink Face on Jarrett then signal for the Rikishi Driver
but Jarrett grabbed his guitar and went to crank Rikishi but Rikishi blocked
it, grabbed the guitar and cranked Jarrett over the head. Unfortunatly, the referee was witness to this
and decided to DISQUALIFY Rikishi meaning that Jarrett has beaten him again and
Jarrett moves on to the next round of the TV Title Tournament. WINNER: Jeff Jarrett via DQ in 3:59. Rating: 1/2* 'Stress' by
Godsmack blasted over the loudspeakers as out of the entrance came The Four
Horsemen in full force as 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair, 'The Worlds Most
Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock, 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit and 'The Shooter' Dean
Malenko all headed out to the ring.
Chris Benoit would take the microphone... Benoit:
"First things first, Ken, Ric, I speak on behalf of myself and The
Shooter, it's an honor to be Horsemen and not to hype us up or anything but I
think The Horsemen just got a whole lot more dangerous." Shamrock:
"Last night, Triple H, you may have won the battle but you sure
don't look like a winner to me. Remember
this, Triple H, I'm not going anywhere and sooner then later, you will feel my
wrath again. As for Maurice Smith, while
I don't agree with you putting your hands on me, I also respect the fact that
you were man enough not to disqualify me.
Smith, you did your job and now you're gone but if I ever find out there
was some sort of screw in on me, you'll have to answer to my fists." Flair: "What
went wrong? Is the question that I asked
myself when I realized that Billy Kidman had pinned me. I'm a man, Kidman, and I can admit that last
night, you were the winner but if you think for one second that Ric Flair is
going to pack his bags and go home and let you off the hook? Then you're dumber then a box of rocks,
pal. Billy Kidman, I will not rest until
it is me and you, one more time, and if you thought the beating you got last
night was intense then you haven't got a clue what's in store for you the next
time I get my hands on you, kid. Kidman,
you think your a big superstar? You want
to prove that your on my level? You may
have beaten me once but can you do it twice?
WHOOOOOOOOOO!" Match #3: Dean Malenko v. Papi Chulo - WPW Television
Title Tournament (First Round). This
would be Papi Chulo's debut in WPW as he came to the ring in a fur coat with
jewerly and a cigar in his mouth. Papi
Chulo means 'Pimp Daddy' in Spanish.
Chulo's opponent, 'The Shooter' Dean Malenko. This would be an amazing match of the
grounded Malenko against the exiciting and innovative high flyer, Papi
Chulo. The closing moments of the match
would see Papi Chulo go up top for a Moonsault but Malenko caught up to him and
would grab his legs and Super Bomb Chulo down to the canvas. Malenko then locked Chulo into the Texas
Cloverleaf for the submission win. The
Shooter advances in the Television Title Tournament. A good debut showing for Papi Chulo and
there's no shame in losing to Dean Malenko. WINNER: Dean Malenko in 5:42. Rating: *** 1/2 Match #4: The Acolytes v. Too Cool - Number One
Contenders @ Breakdown. "Iron
Man" by Black Sabbath hit as the power machine known as The Acolytes
headed out to the ring for this match to determine who will challenge the World
Tag Team Champions at Breakdown. Too
Cool then danced out to the ring but looked a little tentative to lock up with
The Acolytes. The Hardy Boyz, the
reigning champions, headed out to the top of the ramp to watch the action. The closing moments of this one would see
Bradshaw hit a power bomb on Scottie.
Shane Helms ran out to the ring and distracted the referee then Shannon
Moore bolted in with a chair but was hit with a Lariat by Bradshaw. Scottie Too Hottie picked up the chair and
waffled Bradshaw in the head then slid it out of the ring. Scottie Too Hottie rolled up Bradshaw as the
referee turned around and counted one ... two ... THREE! Too Cool are the Number One Contenders thanks
in part to 3Count! WINNERS: Too Cool in 5:01. Rating: * We returned into
the locker room of D-Generation X where Kidman, Road Dogg and X-Pac were
questioning Triple H putting them into the match later tonight but Triple H
smoothed things over saying that tonight will be Goldberg's first and last
match in WPW because he'll find no partners... Match #5: Al Snow v. Steve Blackman - WPW Television
Title Tournament (First Round).
Commissioner Dibiase must have had an ulterior motive in planning out
the tournament as we've got another first round grudge match as Al Snow fought
Steve Blackman. What a difference 24
hours makes, they were a tag team, they were Horsemen, now they're heated
enemies and neither are Horsemen. Snow
snapped on Blackman and injured his knee which Blackman had taped up for the
match and Snow worked over. The closing
moments would see Blackman go for a kick but Snow dropkicked the leg of
Blackman. Snow then signalled for the
Snow Plow and scooped up Blackman and spiked him! NO! Blackman counters with a
small package! ONE! TWO! THREE! Blackman
has gotten the surprise pin on Snow and advanced! Snow is irate! Snow knocks out the referee and kicks the leg
of Blackman! Snow's going outside and
he's got a steel chair! Al Snow has
snapped! Snow is going to break the leg
of Blackman! NO! Here comes LASH LeROUX!
This youngster has come out to save Blackman! NO! SNOW NAILS LASH WITH THE CHAIR! Get somebody out here! Finally WPW officials arrive on the scene to
prevent Snow from breaking Blackman's leg!
What has come over Al Snow? WINNER: Steve Blackman in 3:35. Rating: 1/4* Match #6: Booker T (c) v. Kurt Angle - WPW
Intercontinental Title Match. "My
Hero" by Foo Fighters started up over the loudspeakers as 'The American
Hero' Kurt Angle made his way out from the entrance with a microphone in
hand... Kurt Angle:
"Tonight, your Olympic hero will add gold around his championship
waist in the form of the WPW Intercontinental Title, yes I will. As for last night, and this is not an excuse,
the only reason that I lost that match to Sting was because of Diamond Dallas
Page's incompentence. DDP you are simply
jealous that these people love me and hate you, your jealous that I'm a young
Olympic gold medalist while your claim to fame is a Playboy wife. You have no class, no morals, no integrity,
no intelligence and your intensity is limited.
You know what you are? You're
like each and every one of these people in here, you're simply a Kurt Angle
wannabe. It's true, it's true." "Up In Here" by DMX then blasted over the
loudspeakers as the new WPW Intercontinental Champion, Booker T headed out to
the ring for his first title defense.
Booker T would grab the microphone out of Angle's hands.. Booker T:
"You know something Kurt Angle, I think that your three I's really
stand for inept, ignorant and IDIOT!
Kurt Angle, sucka, tonight I'm going to take every gold medal you've
ever won, I'm going to take everything that you claim to be and throw it out the
window, brotha because tonight, you're gonna to the streets, Booker T style and
you will not survive! Now can you dig
it?" Angle attacked Booker T and out match was on as Angle
peppered Booker T with right hands.
Booker T would mount a comeback on Angle and the two went back and forth
until Angle hit a side suplex on Booker T.
This was Angle's opening as he went to work on the I-C Champion. This exciting matchup went back and forth for
quite some time with Kimberly coming down and joining the announcing team
saying that DDP has issued a challenge to Kurt Angle for Breakdown. The closing moments of the match would see
Booker T try to send Angle into the ropes but Angle reversed. Booker T came off with a flying forearm but
Angle moved. Angle then picked up Booker
T for the Angleplex but Booker T slid down the back and would nail a Harlem
Sidekick sending Angle to the outside.
Kimberly got up and stood on the apron distracting Booker T and the
referee while Diamond Dallas Page came through the crowd and hit a Diamond
Cutter on Angle on the outside then rolled Angle in. Booker T didn't see any of it and just saw
Angle down. Booker T would head up top
and wait for Angle then nail the Missile Dropkick. Booker T made the cover for the
one...two...THREE! Booker T has retained
the I-C Title while DDP has sent a message to 'The American Hero'. WINNER: Booker T in 7:10. Rating: *** 1/4 (Booker T retained the WPW Intercontinental Title.) Main Event: Kidman & Road Dogg & X-Pac v.
Goldberg & ??? & ???. It was
then time for our monster main event matchup.
"The Kings" by Run DMC blared over the loudspeakers as Triple
H limped out on crutches and led Kidman, Road Dogg and X-Pac to the ring. The Game sat in on commentary promising the
end of Goldberg. 'Invasion' hit as
Goldberg emerged from the entrance and through the pyro to a monster pop. Goldberg would walk towards the ring and
right in and start fighting off all three men until the numbers got to be too
much and DX was working over Goldberg three on one. Then the lights went out... . . . "Seek And Destroy" by Metallica blared over the
loudspeakers as Sting charged out to the ring and helped out Goldberg!!! They were doing a fairly good job but it was
still three on two and then the lights would go out again... . . . "5 .. 4 .. 3 .. 2 .. 1 !!" - "Break Down The Walls" hit as
"Y2J" Chris Jericho emerged from the entrance then bolted to the ring
as he helped Sting and Goldberg clear the ring of DX. Sting and Chris Jericho have volunteered to
fight off DX and stand by Goldberg! DX
would regroup and then we would get down to a six man tag team match. The match went back and forth between the two
teams until Jericho and X-Pac were going at it and nailed each other with a
double clothesline. They inched towards
their corners and X-Pac tagged in Road Dogg then a second later Jericho made
the tag to ... GOLDBERG! Road Dogg ran
at Goldberg but Goldberg caught Road Dogg with a SPEAR~! Sting came in and cleared house of Kidman
while Jericho took care of X-Pac on the outside. Goldberg set up Road Dogg and hit the
Jackhammer and made the pin for the one ... two ... THREE! Goldberg has gained the pinfall for his team! WINNERS: Goldberg, Sting and Chris Jericho in 12:32. Rating: ** 1/2 After the match, Triple H snuck in with his crutch to
level Goldberg from behind but Jericho saw this, rolled in and grabbed the
crutch from Triple H. Goldberg turned
around, waited on Triple H then would SPEAR the World Heavyweight Champion! Goldberg did his pose as the crowd erupted
and the show came to a close. What a
night! What a 48 hours! ==-==-==-==-==-==-== WPW News & Notes-: ==-==-==-==-==-==-== -Following the broadcast, Ted Dibiase quickly signed
