WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - May 28 / 2000

[The show opens with a video package of what happened on last week's show as the UFC Heavyweight Champion Maurice Smith was announced as the special enforcing guest referee at Aggression in the World Heavyweight Title Match between Triple H and Ken Shamrock.  Triple H confronted Smith, ran him and UFC down then the two had to be broken up before a physical confrontation broke out.  Eddy Guerrero and Jeff Jarrett were victorious over Booker T and Rikishi.  Ric Flair informed us that at Aggression he will face Billy Kidman in a Lumberjack Match.  3Count and Too Cool battled to a draw meaning they will both challenge for the World Tag Team Titles at Aggression.  The Acolytes promised to make DX their 'prison bitches'.  Dean Malenko beat X-Pac with an assist from Bradshaw.  Kurt Angle came out and ran down Sting.  Road Dogg beat Chris Benoit after some interference by The Acolytes backfired.  Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Jericho had a confrontation.  The Hardy Boyz retained the World Tag Team Titles over Al Snow and Steve Blackman.  In the Main Event, Ken Shamrock and Ric Flair defeated Triple H and Billy Kidman after Shamrock made The Game tap out to the Ankle Lock after Maurice Smith blocked DX interference.]

("Spit It Out" by Slipknot played in the background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 graphic comes up on the screen then fades away but not completely as a fast paced montage of WPW action including; Jeff Jarrett KO'ing Rikishi with a guitar, The Acolytes Double Team Power Bombing Blue Meanie, Sting hitting a Scorpion Death Drop on Ric Flair, Diamond Dallas Page putting Sting through a table with a Diamond Cutter, Chris Jericho with Eddy Guerrero in the Walls Of Jericho, a Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy on Shane Helms, Ric Flair with Sting in the Figure Four Leglock, Triple H hitting the Pedigree on Ken Shamrock, Billy Kidman plastering Ric Flair in the head with a chair and much, much more.  The WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo fades back in to full then explodes...)

We enter the arena live as fireworks are going off all over the place and the camera is panning around the crowd.  The lights dimmed as 'The Kings' by Run DMC blared over the loudspeakers and out of the entrance came D-Generation X in full.  The World Heavyweight Champion 'The Game' Triple H, Billy Kidman, Road Dogg and X-Pac walked out to the ring and Road Dogg would take the microphone...

Road Dogg:  "Looking out at this crowd, I've got to say, welcome to the DOGG HOUSE!  Because I look out and I see a bunch of women that look like dogs, and the guys, I got no comment.  Let's get down to biznez and those drunken Acolytes.  Acolytes, you took the DX green and you failed to do your job so that means that the D-O-double G and X to the P to the A to the C are going to get ourselves a refund, D-Generation X style.  After Aggression, Acolytes, you'll be sipping that beer threw a straw and if you ain't down with that, then you suck it!"

Triple H:  "You know what all you people need to do?  SHUT UP!  All you people need to know is that I am still the World Heavyweight Champion and Ken Shamrock, you've got no chance of beating me at Aggression and taking my title.  Shamrock, sure you may have gotten me to tap out last week but the difference was, that was a tag team match and my World Heavyweight Title was not on the line.  You've got Maurice Smith on your side, the deck is stacked against The Game but Maurice Smith or no Maurice Smith, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference to me because Ken Shamrock, you are simply out classed and out matched against The Game and you can bet everything that after Aggression, I will still be The Game, I will still be the best and I will still be the World Heavyweight Champion because I am simply that DAMN GOOD!  As for tonight goes, I'm laying out the challenge, D-Generation X against The Four Horsemen, eight man tag elimination match and we will continue to show that The Horsemen are simply not in our league."

Billy Kidman:  "Ric Flair, Ric Flair, Ric Flair, it's time that someone shut down Space Mountain once and for all.  It's old, it's broken down, it's just patched up and it takes forever to get it up.  Whereas, Billy Kidman, is young, working 24/7, and goes up on its own.  Flair, I'm taking your spot in this business.  You say to be the man, you gotta beat the man?  Well, after Aggression, they will be calling me 'The Man' and hopefully, you'll realize how pathetic you really are and walk away, Flair, just walk away before I leave you a crippled old man.  WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Opening Match: Evan Karagias v. Crash Holly.  "Can't Get You Out Of My Heart" played as Evan Karagias came out of the entrance.  Once in the ring, Evan took the microphone, "Tonight, I'm going to do it solo style..."  but before Evan could continue, "Dirty Deeds" by AC/DC hit as Crash Holly stormed out to the ring and went at Evan.  A few weeks ago, Evan scored a win over Crash with outside interference from 3Count and Crash is looking for revenge.  Evan Karagias would soon get back in control and throw Crash out of the ring then went for a plancha and connected with Crash.  Evan rolled Crash Holly in then posed to the crowd but out of the crowd came HARDCORE HOLLY.  Holly bent a chair over the head of Karagias then rolled him into the ring.  Crash Holly went to the top and would hit the Crashcanrana on Karagias for the one-two-three!  Crash Holly has enlisted the help of his cousin to one up Evan Karagias.

WINNER Crash Holly in 2:25

Rating: * 1/2

Match #2: Matt Hardy v. Scotty Too Hotty.  "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit brought one half of the WPW World Tag Team Champions, Matt Hardy out to the ring.  Then, "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan sounded as Scotty Too Hotty of Too Cool made his way out to the ring.  At WPW Aggression, The Hardy Boyz will defend their titles against Too Cool and 3Count in a Three Way Dance.  This would be a pretty good back and forth match between Matt and Scotty.  The closing moments of the match would see Matt Hardy nail a Splash Mountain on Scotty for a near fall.  Matt then went up for a moonsault but Scotty got his knees up.  Scotty then quickly headed up to the top rope and connected with his Flying DDT.  Scotty made the cover on Hardy for the one ... two ... THREE!  Scotty Too Hotty has scored a pinfall victory over 1/2 of the World Tag Team Champions!  This is going to give Too Cool confidence and momenteum going into the Three Way Dance.

WINNER: Scotty Too Hotty in 4:03.

Rating: *** 1/2

'Surfacing' by Slipknot blasted over the loudspeakers as 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit and 'The Shooter' Dean Malenko made their way out to the ring in wrestling gear.  Benoit would take the microphone...

Chris Benoit:  "Acolytes, last week you stuck your nose in my business and you cost me a match against that fool, Road Dogg.  Acolytes, you may be big, you be tough, but you're not The Crippler, and you're not The Shooter so we're going to right the wrongs of last week and we want your asses out here right now!"

Match #3: Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko v. The Acolytes.  "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath sounded as The Acolytes, Faarooq and Bradshaw, never ones to back down from a challenge or a fight headed out to the ring to take on Benoit and Malenko.  Benoit and Malenko realized that they couldn't brawl with The Acolytes or match power so they went to the mat trying to wear out The Acolytes and did a pretty good job of it for the most part except that Faarooq and Bradshaw's power kept them in the match.  The closing moments of the match would see Benoit and Bradshaw going at it.  Bradshaw went for a Clothesline From Hell but Benoit ducked would hit a big german suplex on Bradshaw followed by a second then went for a third but Bradshaw countered it with a back elbow then would hit a belly-to-back suplex on Benoit.  Bradshaw then placed Benoit on the top turnbuckle.  Road Dogg and X-Pac hit ringside and Road Dogg distracted the referee as X-Pac grabbed the ring bell and would crank Bradshaw in the back of the head.  Benoit then came off the top rope with the Diving Headbutt on Bradshaw.  Benoit made the cover for the one ... two ... three!  DX's war with The Acolytes has helped Benoit and Malenko, two men fighting to join The Four Horsemen, DX's main enemies, a few wins.  How do Benoit and Malenko feel about this?  More importantly, what does Ric Flair think knowing that two men that could possibly enter The Horsemen at Aggression, could be working with DX?  And boy, are the Acolytes going to be pissed off...

WINNERS: Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko in 4:57.

Rating: ** 1/4

Match #4: Diamond Dallas Page v. Sting.  "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana blared over the loudspeakers as Diamond Dallas Page along with Kimberly made his way out to the ring for our next matchup.  Then, "Seek And Destroy" by Metallica brought Sting out to the ring.  This is a rematch from WPW WrestleWar about a month ago.  Sting took it to DDP for most of the match, took what DDP had to dish out and gave it right back.  The closing moments of the match would see Sting go for a tombstone but DDP countered it into a faceplant tombstone.  DDP then signalled for the Diamond Cutter and hooked up Sting but Sting shoved DDP off, kicked him in the midsection then drilled him with the Scorpion Death Drop.  Sting didn't go for the cover, instead locked DDP in the Scorpion Deathlock.  DDP was about to give it up when Kimberly entered the ring with a chair and hit Sting over the head to cause the DQ but Sting felt nothing.  Kim dropped the chair and backed away as Sting threatened her.  DDP took the chair and sized up Sting until CHRIS JERICHO came out from behind and grabbed the chair from DDP just as he was going to hit Sting.  Jericho then nailed Page over the head with the chair knocking him cold.  Jericho then told Sting to give Kim to him.  Jericho held Kim and gave Sting the chair.  Sting wound up as to swing and Kimberly closed her eyes and flinched but Sting didn't hit her, instead, Jericho kissed Kimberly!  Diamond Dallas Page is not going to be very happy with Y2J...

WINNER: Sting by DQ in 5:24.

Rating: ** 3/4

Match #5: Shannon Moore v. Jeff Hardy.  We returned for our next matchup as "Can't Get You Out Of My Heart" brought 3Count's Shannon Moore out to the ring.  Then, "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit sounded and out came 1/2 of the WPW World Tag Team Champions, Jeff Hardy to the ring.  These two men broke into the business together but their careers have taken different paths since then.  The two locked up and Shannon sent Hardy into the corner then monkey flipped him out.  Moore followed that with a spinning headscissors and a victory roll on Hardy for a quick two count.  Moore then tried a DDT but Jeff countered it with an inverted atomic drop then leg lariat.  Moore slipped out to the floor for a break but Hardy flew onto him with a running senton atomico.  Hardy rolled Moore into the ring and placed him on the top turnbuckle.  Hardy went for a frankensteiner but Moore countered it into a top-rope liger bomb for a close fall.  Moore followed that up with a rocker dropper for another near fall.  This amazing match wore on with these two men pulling out everything in their aresonal to put the other away.  The closing moments of the match would see Shannon go for a Shannon Slicer but Hardy countered it with a jawbreaker.  Jeff then planted Shannon with a gutwrench powerbomb and signalled for the Swanton Bomb.  Hardy headed up top but Shane Helms ran out to ringside.  Hardy would fly with the Swanton Bomb but Helms pulled Moore out of the way.  Moore then got to his feet and would spike Hardy with the Shannon Slicer and make the cover for one...two...THREE!  Shannon Moore has beaten 1/2 of the World Tag Team Champions!

WINNER: Shannon Moore in 6:05.

Rating: **** 1/2

After the match, Shane Helms rolled into the ring and began stomping away on Jeff Hardy until Matt Hardy ran out and evened things up.  Then, Too Cool hit the ring and cleared the ring of all four men!  3Count and The Hardyz brawled into the crowd as the lights went down and "This Is How We Do It" came on and Too Cool danced for the crowd as we headed to a break...

Match #6: Kurt Angle v. Chris Jericho.  "My Hero" by Foo Fighters started up over the PA system as 'The American Hero' Kurt Angle walked out of the entrance with a microphone...

Kurt Angle:  "Ladies and gentlemen, people of St. Louis, I am here because you are in desperate need of a new hero.  Hold on, hold on, hear me out.  Let's take a look at your current sports heroes, the St. Louis Blues, sure they were the number one team in the regular season but they couldn't even beat a team from CALIFORNIA named the SHARKS!  I mean that sure lacks intensity.  Now there's Kurt Warner of the St. Louis Rams and while and while he may have the intensity that the Blues lack, he himself lacks intelligence, I mean, he played ARENA FOOTBALL and we all know that the Rams were handed the Super Bowl because it would be a good 'story'.  That brings me to Mark McGwire.  Again, McGwire has the intensity but how can you people cheer for a man that is a drug infested loser with an ugly kid?  Please, people, that just proves that you can dance and you can prance but when it comes to relations, keep it in your pants.  That's why I, Kurt Angle, a true American Hero and an Olympic Gold Medalist to boot, have come here to St. Louis to give you a hero that your children can idolize and that you can cheer, it's true, it's true."

'5...4...3...2...1!' The lights went down and the pyro blasted as 'Y2J' Chris Jericho emerged from the entrance with a microphone of his own...

Chris Jericho:  "Welcome to Sunday Night JERICHO!  Kirk Angel, these people didn't come here to listen to you bitch and moan and spread lies about this city.  These people came here to see you get your ass kicked and while I'm Canadian, I'm a much better American Hero then you.  Look at you, you've probably never had sex in your life, hell, you probably haven't even spoken to a woman in your life and the only reason you won an Olympic Gold medal was because Y2J wasn't in the tournament!  Now what did you say about dancing and prancing?  Well, put your dancing shoes on because Y2J is going to kick you square in your ass and you will never eh...eh...EVER sit down A-GAIN!"

Chris Jericho got into the ring and this match against Kurt Angle was on.  Jericho and Angle brawled a little bit back and forth until Angle got in control with some takedowns and a suplex on Jericho.  Angle then celebrated which allowed Jericho to come back.  This was a really good match between two of the hottest young stars in WPW.  The closing moments of the match would see Angle miss a moonsault and Jericho would drive him into the mat with a double power bomb.  The crowds attention turned as Kimberly walked out to ringside and the referee was distracted.  DDP came over the guardrail and as Jericho went for the Lionsault, DDP pulled the ropes and Jericho fell out to the floor.  DDP then nailed a Diamond Cutter and rolled Jericho in where Angle made a cover.  The referee turned around and counted the one...two...three!  Angle has won it over Chris Jericho!  DDP and Kimberly left together looking pleased while Angle celebrated like he had won another gold medal!

WINNER: Kurt Angle in 5:06.

Main Event: D-Generation X v. The Four Horsemen -  Eight Man Elimination Tag Team Match.  "The Kings" by Run DMC brought D-Generation X, Billy Kidman, Road Dogg, X-Pac and the WPW World Heavyweight Champion Triple H out to the ring first.  Then, "Stress" by Godsmack blasted over the loudspeakers as The Four Horsemen's Ken Shamrock, Ric Flair, Al Snow and Steve Blackman all headed out to the ring for our big Main Event.  "Bring The Pain" by Method Man then sounded as Maurice Smith walked out and joined the announcing team.  The first elimination would come with Road Dogg hitting his jiving punches on Shamrock then going for the Pumphandle Slam but Shamrock reversed it into the Ankle Lock and Road Dogg tapped out!  ROAD DOGG has been eliminated.  The next elimination would come as Steve Blackman went for his Jumping Kick on Triple H but The Game side stepped it then hit a high knee.  Triple H followed that up with the Pedigree on Blackman for the elimination.  STEVE BLACKMAN has been eliminated.  The next elimination would come as Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko walked out to ringside.  This distracted Al Snow and allowed X-Pac to nail the X-Factor on Snow and cover him for the three count.  AL SNOW has been eliminated.  Ric Flair then went to work on X-Pac and would lock him in the Figure-Four Leglock and get X-Pac to tap out.  X-PAC has been eliminated.  We were down to Ken Shamrock and Ric Flair on one side and Triple H and Kidman on the other.  Triple H and Ric Flair went at it as DX isolated Flair.  Triple H would nail the Pedigree on Flair then tag in Kidman.  Triple H then shoved Shamrock off the apron as Kidman hit the Shooting Star Press on Flair for the one-two-three!  RIC FLAIR has been eliminated.  Now Shamrock was on his own against both Triple H and Kidman.  Shamrock knocked down Triple H on the outside then snuck back into the ring behind Kidman and locked him into the Ankle Lock and Kidman had no choice but to tap out!  Ken Shamrock has made it an even playing field eliminating BILLY KIDMAN! Shamrock and Triple H brawled back and forth until Billy Kidman would trip up Shamrock and Triple H nailed a piledriver for the...
