WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - May 21 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- [The show opens with a video package of what happened on
last week's show as Ric Flair opened the show setting the stage for a
one-on-one match with Billy Kidman in the Main Event. Evan Karagias got a victory over Crash
Holly. Jeff Jarrett and Rikishi had a
confrontation backstage then Jarrett cost Rikishi a match against Booker T. That win earned Booker T an I-C Title shot at
Aggression. Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko
made an impressive debut defeating The Mamalukes. The Four Horsemen overcame DX in a Six-Man
Tag as Ken Shamrock made Road Dogg tap out to the Ankle Lock and afterwards had
Triple H tapping. Sting evened the score
getting a pinfall over DDP in a tag match with Sting and Jericho against DDP
and Kurt Angle. In the Main Event, Flair
and Kidman had a real good match that ended with Kidman running for his life
from Flair. Flair caught him in the
parking lot but some low blows from Kidman allowed Kidman to get in his car and
escape. Kidman has gotten in way over
his head with The Nature Boy.] ("Spit It Out" by Slipknot played in the
background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 graphic comes up on the screen then
fades away but not completely as a fast paced montage of WPW action including;
Jeff Jarrett KO'ing Vampiro with a guitar, The Acolytes Double Team Power
Bombing Blue Meanie, Sting hitting a Scorpion Death Drop on Ric Flair, Diamond
Dallas Page putting Sting through a table with a Diamond Cutter, Chris Jericho
with Eddy Guerrero in the Walls Of Jericho, a Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy on
Shane Helms, Ric Flair with Sting in the Figure Four Leglock, Triple H hitting
the Pedigree on Ken Shamrock, Billy Kidman plastering Ric Flair in the head
with a chair and much, much more. The
WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo fades back in to full then explodes...) We enter the arena live as fireworks are going off all
over the place and the camera is panning around the crowd. Then we headed to the ring where Terry Taylor
was standing with a mic... Terry Taylor:
"Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you the reigning
UFC Heavyweight Champion ... MAURICE SMITH!" 'Bring The Pain' by Method Man blared over the
loudspeakers as the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, 'Mo Pain' Maurice Smith
headed out to the ring in street clothes. Terry Taylor:
"Maurice, let the fans in on what you're doing here
tonight..." Maurice Smith:
"Being the current Ultimate Fighting Championship Heavyweight
Champion means that I am the toughest man in the octagon. I understand that there's been a lot of
problems between DX and The Horsemen and at WPW Aggression there's going to be
a World Title Match between Triple H and Ken Shamrock. Commissioner Dibiase extended the offer to me
and I've accepted to be the special enforcing guest referee in that match! I'm gonna make sure NO ONE gets involved and
if they do, they're goin' out!" 'ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!' The lights went out as out of the entrance emerged the
WPW World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H.
Triple H walked to the ring alone carrying the World Title. Triple H:
"Terry Taylor, I think you better take your red rooster ass out of
this ring right now because I've got something to say to Mister Smith over
here. Maurice Smith, did I just hear you
correctly say that your going to be the referee at Aggression?" Maurice Smith:
"Are you deaf or something, man?
Of course I did!" Triple H:
"You also said that you're the toughest man in the octagon and that
may be true but let me tell you something.
When you stepped into this arena and this ring, you stepped into my
world. You may be the UFC Heavyweight
Champion but that doesn't mean **** to me because I am the World Heavyweight
Champion, I am the Game, because I am THAT DAMN GOOD! So, if you try to stick your nose in my
business, if you try to screw me in favor of Shamrock, then you will find out
first hand that I am the Game." Maurice Smith dropped his microphone then went right into
the face of Triple H. The two stared
each other down until Ted Dibiase led WPW officials came inbetween them. Opening Match: Eddy Guerrero & Jeff Jarrett v. Booker
T & Rikishi. "Prime Time"
by The Alkaholiks started up over the PA system as the WPW Intercontinental
Champion, Eddy Guerrero and 'Double J' Jeff Jarrett headed out to the ring for
this match. Then, 'Up In Here' by DMX
brought their opponents, Booker T and Rikishi out to the ring. Booker T will challenge Guerrero at
Aggression for the IC Title while Jarrett faces Rikishi in a grudge match. The closing moments of this match would see
Eddy Guerrero go for a brain buster on Booker T but Booker blocked it and tried
to send Eddy into the ropes but Eddy reversed it. Booker came off the ropes and nailed Eddy
with a flying forearm! Both men were
down and crawled over to their corners to make a tag. They did at the same time and Jarrett and
Rikishi came in. Rikishi cleaned house
on Jarrett and Guerrero. Booker T would
pull Guerrero the outside and hammer away on him while Rikishi nailed a
superkick on Jarrett sending him down into the corner. Rikishi signalled for the Stinky Face but as
he backed up into Jarrett, Jarrett nailed him with a vicious low blow. Jarrett then followed that up with the Stroke
and a cover for the one...two...THREE!
Jarrett picks up the pinfall over Rikishi and the win for his team! WINNERS: Eddy Guerrero and Jeff Jarrett in 5:24. Rating: * "Sprach
Zarathustra" started up over the loudspeakers and out of the entrance
walked 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair. Flair
headed out to the rnig and took a microphone... Ric Flair:
"Billy Kidman, hah hah, you have got to be the stupidest man
walking because last week, you could have fought me like a man and took your
beating like a man but instead you ran like the little girl that you are,
pal. You ran yourself right into a
second match with Slick Ric at WPW Aggression LIVE on pay-per-view,
Kidman. You ran yourself into a match
you will not be running out of because you see, Kidman. I've been around this sport for a long time,
too long, and there's a reason they call me the dirtiest player in the game and
that's because I know every trick in the book, hell, I even wrote a few
chapters myself. And at Aggression,
you're going to walk that aisle and walk into a Lumberjack Match! That's right, Kidman, there will be no
escaping the Nature Boy and I will make you pay for what you've done because to
be the man, Billy Kidman, you're going to have to beat the man and by god, I am
the MAN! WHOOOOOOOO!" Match #2: 3Count v. Too Cool. Number One Contenders Match. The lights darkened as 3Count came out to the
ring and would perform 'Can't Get You Out Of My Heart' for the crowd. They were interupted as Too Cool headed out
to the ring and did a little dancing before Shannon and Shane attacked to kick
off this match. The feud between 3Count
and Too Cool continued here with the winners to face the World Tag Team
Champions at Aggression. This would be
another good high flying match between the two teams. The closing moments of the match would see
all four men in the ring with Grandmaster Sexay knocking Shane Helms out of the
ring with a clothesline. Shannon Moore
then went for the Shannon Slicer on Grandmaster but Scottie Too Hottie came
from behind and would hit a German Suplex on Shannon. The referee counted one ... two ...
THREE! Too Cool wins the Number One
Contenders match! WAIT! The referee has
told the ring announcer to declare this match a DRAW on the result of a DOUBLE
PIN meaning that both 3Count and Too Cool will go to Aggression and face the
World Tag Team Champions in a Three Way Dance! WINNERS: Draw in 5:32. Rating: ** 3/4 We headed
backstage where Michael Cole was with Faarooq and Bradshaw, The Acolytes... Cole: "Faarooq, Bradshaw, Acolytes, we've seen you
take money from Road Dogg and X-Pac to help them, let's say, advance their
careers but two weeks ago we saw you take out DX, what's the deal?" Faarooq:
"What's the deal? The deal
is the first thing you need to know is that we don't have to tell you anything
so shut the hell up you stupid little goatee wearing bitch." Bradshaw:
"The Acolytes Protection Agency is something we do part-time but we
kick ass full-time. We don't take money
to help people win matches, we take money to protect people. DX, you dished out a little extra beer money
and we made a deal but you went to the well one too many times and you violated
our laws." Faarooq: "By
the end of the night, you will be our prison bitches and you will learn what The
Acolytes are all about." Match #3: X-Pac v. Dean Malenko. 'The Kings' by Run DMC blared over the PA as
DX's X-Pac made his way out to the ring for this next matchup here on WPW
Sunday Night. Then, 'Surfacing' by
Slipknot brought out 'The Shooter' Dean Malenko to the ring. This would be a great match between X-Pac and
Dean Malenko as Malenko worked over the legs of X-Pac to limit the arial attack
and martial arts of X-Pac. The closing
moments of this match would see X-Pac go for a roundhouse kick but Malenko
ducked then tried to backdrop X-Pac out of the ring but X-Pac landed on the
apron then suplexed Malenko out to the floor.
X-Pac got back into the ring and tried a plancha on Malenko but X-Pac
landed harder. Malenko would roll into
the ring and while the referee was checking on him, BRADSHAW ran down and
nailed a Clothesline From Hell on X-Pac that had the fans cringing. Bradshaw rolled X-Pac in then fled the
scene. Malenko would wrap X-Pac up in
the Texas Cloverleaf and X-Pac was out.
Dean Malenko takes the win as Bradshaw makes good on his word. WINNER: Dean Malenko in 7:10. Rating: *** "My
Hero" by Foo Fighters came over the loudspeakers and out of the entrance
emerged 'The American Hero' Kurt Angle with his gold medals around his neck and
a microphone in hand... Kurt Angle:
"Thank you, thank you. I am
not here to wrestle tonight, no, I am here to talk about a fallen hero named
Sting. Sting, at one time you were at
the top of this sport, you were a hero in all of these fans eyes but now? Now you're no better then any of these people
here tonight, it's true, it's true. Now
Sting, you've gone out and signed up for another match against the most celebrated
REAL athlete in the WPW at Aggression.
Sting, you have a lot of intensity but this decision to face an Olympic
hero again shows that you lack not only intelligence but integrity. If you had intelligence you wouldn't have
signed for a rematch and if you had integrity you would have taken your loss
like a man and moved on. Instead, Sting,
you've forced me into beating you one more time at Aggression, now that my
friends is true." Match #4: Chris Benoit v. Road Dogg. We went back to the ring for our next matchup
as 'Surfacing' by Slipknot played and out came 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit to
the ring. Then, 'The Kings' by Run DMC
brought Road Dogg out to the ring.
Benoit would go into brawling mode for much of this match against Road
Dogg as Benoit shows that he can adapt to anyone's style and hang with
them. Benoit also threw Road Dogg around
quite a bit with suplexes and other snug moves.
The closing moments of the match would see Faarooq run out and distract
the referee then Bradshaw came in and went for a Clothesline From Hell on Road
Dogg but Road Dogg moved and Bradshaw leveled Benoit! Road Dogg then clotheslined Bradshaw out of
the ring. Road Dogg would then hit the
Pumphandle Slam on Benoit and make the cover with a handful of tights for the
one...two...THREE! Road Dogg picks up
the win over Chris Benoit. WINNER: Road Dogg in 5:07. Rating: ** 3/4 After the match, Bradshaw and Faarooq pummeled Road Dog
until X-Pac ran out but he didn't fair much better. Benoit was livid at Bradshaw and shoved him
then went toe-to-toe with him not backing down.
Dean Malenko soon came out to even up the odds against The Acolytes and
they brawled until the ever busy WPW officials had to break it all up. 'Smells Like
Teen Spirit' by Nirvana started up over the loudspeakers as Diamond Dallas Page
headed out to the ring and took a microphone... Diamond Dallas Page:
"Chris Jericho, you've stuck your ugly nose in my business one too
many times and it's time that the hardest working man in professional
wrestling, myself, Diamond Dallas Page, makes you pay. Good gawd are you going to get your ass
kicked, Jericho, you're WAY out of your league, boy. Take that to the bank, kid, from the master
of the Diamond Cutter, DDP. You love me
... You hate me ... " DDP was interrupted as the lights went out and we counted
down to 'Break Down The Walls' and out of the pyro came 'Y2J' Chris Jericho
from the entrance with a microphone... Chris Jericho:
"DDP, some might love you, most hate you but no one will ever
forget you because you never SHUT THE HELL UP!
At Aggression, you are going to get a Y2J beating that you will NEVER
eh..eh...EVER FORGET!" Jericho then charged into the ring and mixed it up with
DDP until WPW officials came out and seperated these two men... Match #5: WPW World Tag Team Titles - The Hardy Boyz [c]
v. Al Snow & Steve Blackman. 'Keep
Away' by Godsmack brought out the challengers from The Four Horsemen, Al Snow
and Steve Blackman to the ring first.
Then, 'Break Stuff' by Limp Bizkit blasted through the loudspeakers as
the young popular duo, the World Tag Team Champions, The Hardy Boyz came out to
the ring. Snow and Blackman would try to
ground the high flying Hardyz in this match and did a fairly good job of it but
these Hardy Boyz love taking risks and they did. In the end, Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko
came down to the ring to continue scouting Snow and Blackman. Al Snow tried the Snow Plow on Jeff Hardy but
Matt Hardy came in and dropkicked the knee of Snow. Matt would then nail the Twist of Fate on
Snow. Blackman tried to get in but
Benoit pulled him off the apron. Jeff
Hardy would nail the Swanton Bomb on Al Snow for the one-two-three! The Hardy Boyz retain their World Tag Team
Titles! WINNERS: The Hardy Boyz in 5:59. Rating: ** 1/4 (The Hardy Boyz retained the WPW World Tag Team Titles.) After the match, Benoit and Malenko left Blackman laying
on the outside sending a message that they should be Horsemen... Main Event: Ken Shamrock & Ric Flair v. Triple H
& Billy Kidman. It was Main Event
time here on WPW Sunday Night as 'Stress' by Godsmack brought out 'The World's
Most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock and 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair to the
ring. Then we heard, 'ONE! TWO! ZIS
ON?!' as the WPW World Heavyweight Champion, 'The Game' Triple H and Billy
Kidman emerged from the entrance. Triple
H and Ric Flair started things off with Triple H getting the advantage on Flair
with some brawling then making the tag to an anxious Kidman. Kidman chopped Flair and hit a running lariat
on The Nature Boy. Kidman mocked Flair's
strut then would go for an inverted suplex but Flair blocked it then went to
work on Kidman before slamming him down, hitting a kneedrop then tagging in Ken
Shamrock. Shamrock will challenge Triple
H for the WPW World Heavyweight Title at WPW Aggression while Ric Flair will face
Billy Kidman in a Lumberjack Match.
Shamrock worked over Kidman and tried a yakuza kick but Kidman countered
it with a legsweep and tagged in Triple H.
Triple H and Shamrock exchanged blows until Shamrock hit a couple
kneelifts then sent Triple H into the ropes and took him down with a
huracanrana. Shamrock went for the Ankle
Lock but Triple H got to the ropes.
Shamrock tried to pick up The Game but HHH nailed Shamrock in the
midsection then would hit a piledriver for a near fall. This exciting and very good Main Event tag
team match wore on back and forth between the two teams for several
minutes. The closing moments of this
match would see Triple H and Ken Shamrock going at it. Shamrock went for a belly-to-belly suplex but
Triple H went to the eyes. Triple H
kicked Shamrock in the stomach and set him up for the Pedigree. Shamrock reversed it pulling Triple H's legs
out from under him and going for a slingshot.
NO! Shamrock grabs the ankle and turns Triple H over into the Ankle Lock
Submission! Kidman is in but Flair cuts
him off and takes care of Kidman! Triple
H is in a ton of pain and is inching towards the ropes. HERE COMES DX! Road Dogg and X-Pac started coming out of the
entrance but ... MAURICE SMITH!!!
Maurice Smith charged out infront of them and X-Pac and Road Dogg backed
off from Smith. Triple H is inches from
the ropes and ... Shamrock releases it! NO! Shamrock pulls Triple H across the
ring! Triple H has no choice, HE TAPS!
HE TAPS! TRIPLE H TAPS OUT! Ken Shamrock
has made the World Heavyweight Champion TAP OUT to the Ankle Lock! WINNERS: Ken Shamrock and Ric Flair in 10:47. Rating: *** 1/4 The Copyright graphic came up as Shamrock and Flair were
announced the winners and Shamrock celebrated while Maurice Smith held off DX
and Flair and Kidman fought on the outside!
