WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - May 14 / 2000

-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-

[The show opens with a video package of what happened on last week's show as Ken Shamrock challenged Triple H for the World Title but The Game backed down, the mysterious owner of WPW appeared on the big screen in silhouette form and his voice was disorted, he then named Ted Dibiase as WPW Commissioner, Dibiase went on to sign a #1 Contender's Match between Shamrock and Kidman, No Holds Barred, later in the night.  X-Pac and Road Dogg went to The Acolytes again for help but The Acolytes would in turn later on punk out X-Pac and Road Dogg.  Kurt Angle made his shocking WPW debut interrupting Sting, running him down then defeating him in an impromptu match, albeit a cheap win.  Chris Jericho cost DDP an I-C Title match against Eddy Guerrero as he attacked Guerrero, DDP and Jericho then got into it.  Ken Shamrock and Billy Kidman had another great match but as DX tried to interfere Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko came out of the crowd to Shamrock's aid then Ric Flair made a surprise appearance hitting Triple H and Kidman with chairshots giving Shamrock the win.  Shamrock will challenge Triple H for the World Title at Aggression.]

("Spit It Out" by Slipknot played in the background as the WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 graphic comes up on the screen then fades away but not completely as a fast paced montage of WPW action including; Jeff Jarrett KO'ing Vampiro with a guitar, The Acolytes Double Team Power Bombing Blue Meanie, Sting hitting a Scorpion Death Drop on Ric Flair, Diamond Dallas Page putting Sting through a table with a Diamond Cutter, Chris Jericho with Eddy Guerrero in the Walls Of Jericho, a Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy on Shane Helms, Ric Flair with Sting in the Figure Four Leglock, Triple H hitting the Pedigree on Ken Shamrock, Billy Kidman plastering Ric Flair in the head with a chair and much, much more.  The WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 logo fades back in to full then explodes...)

We enter the arena live as fireworks are going off all over the place and the camera is panning around the crowd.  Then, "Sprach Zarathustra" and the crowd goes wild as 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair steps out of the entrance then the rest of The Horsemen, Ken Shamrock, Al Snow and Steve Blackman walk out.  The Horsemen head to the ring as Ric Flair takes a microphone...

Ric Flair:  "WHOOOOOOO!  A lot of people were shocked to see The Nature Boy walk that aisle last week and even the odds so, Ken Shamrock, The World's Most Dangerous Man, will get a shot at Triple H.  Much like Ken, I couldn't go home to my wife and kids after what went down at WrestleWar so I flew to Washington last week and in the limo, I watched what you did, Shamrock, and that's why you are a Horsemen.  That's what it takes to be a Horsemen.  I know that you're going to beat Triple H at Aggression.  Now let me turn my attention to that snot nosed little punk, Billy Kidman.  I should've known you weren't a decent human being, I should've known you'd sell out to DX so it was my mistake to trust you in the first place.  Kidman, I may be middle aged but I know that I can still wipe the mat with your ass.  Kidman, do you really think you can beat Ric Flair?  Come on, pal!  That's a dream you have and dreams are meant to be exactly what they are, a dream.  Reality is custom made clothes from head to toe, riding in limousines, beautiful women, golden blond hair, stylin' and profilin' like no other, rolex watches, getting every woman that I want just like that, even yours.  Ya see, Billy Kidman, you're living a dream and I'm happy for you, god bless you, everyone needs a dream because you are never, EVER, going to be able to say that you've sold out Madison Square Garden, wrestled in front of 65,000 at the Tokyo Dome, drew 32,000 at Texas Stadium wrestling Kerry Von Erich, or were a 17-time World Heavyweight Champion, and if I've got anything to say about it, you're never going to be able to say that you beat Ric Flair in the middle of the ring on your own.  Ya see, Kidman, you might be wondering how you could be as good as Ric Flair?  Well you can't because you have to born this good, you've got to have it deep inside of you.  Some people think that I should retire because I've done it all but how can I leave this business in the hands of people like Triple H, Road Dogg, X-Pac and especially Billy Kidman?  I can't.  Billy Kidman, you've got your match against The Nature Boy, you've got your fight but if you want it, it's gotta be TONIGHT! WHOOOOOOOO!"

Then, Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko come out of the crowd again and into the ring and Benoit takes a microphone...

Chris Benoit:  "Ric Flair, we are true Horsemen not Al Snow and Steve Blackman.  Who was there last week and who went home?  I think it's time that true Horsemen like myself and Dean Malenko reclaim our spots in wrestling's most elite group."

Ric Flair:  "I respect all four of you and you're all great talent.  Benoit and Malenko, you think you could be better Horsemen then Snow and Blackman?  Prove it.  At Aggression if you can beat Snow and Blackman in a tag team match then you're in and they're out but if not, then you're not good enough to be Horsemen.  Snow, Blackman, this is no knock against you but if you're really great Horsemen then you'll beat them at Aggression."

Blackman and Snow square off against Benoit and Malenko but then, "The Kings" by Run DMC blares over the loudspeakers and out of the entrance walks Billy Kidman with a microphone...

Billy Kidman:  "Flair, I've heard you flap those old gums of yours for quite a long time now and I accept your challenge, old man.  Tonight it will be out with the old and in with Kidman.  [Kidman crotch chops] WHOOO!"

We then headed to a commercial break and back to Scott Hudson and Mike Tenay at ringside.  They ran down the card for the night on this huge WPW Sunday Night which includes a Number One Contenders Match to the I-C Title as Booker T takes on Rikishi, Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko make their official debut against The Mamalukes, Six-Man Tag Team action as Triple H, Road Dogg and X-Pac face Ken Shamrock, Al Snow, and Steve Blackman.  In a match thrown together by Commissioner Dibiase, Chris Jericho will team with Sting to take on Diamond Dallas Page and Kurt Angle.  In the Main Event, it will be "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair versus Billy Kidman.  All that and more this week on Sunday Night...

Opening Match: Evan Karagias v. Crash Holly.  We returned to the ring with 3Count performing 'Can't Get You Out Of My Heart'.  Then the self-proclaimed 'Super Heavyweight' Crash Holly walked out to the ring carrying his scale and looking very smug.  Karagias and Holly would have a fairly good but short match as is usual for television.  Holly found himself doing less and less brawling and showing more of his mat wrestling and high flying in this match.  The ending would see Crash Holly nail a DDT on Karagias then went up top to hit his Crashcanrana but Shane Helms distracted the referee while Shannon Moore shoved Holly off the top.  Evan Karagias then went up and nailed the Tidal Wave for the one-two-THREE!  Evan Karagias picks up the win over Crash Holly with an assist from his 3Count partners.

WINNER: Evan Karagias in 4:57.

Rating: * 3/4

We headed backstage where Rikishi was making his way through the back as his match was next.  Jeff Jarrett was sitting talking to Eddy Guerrero and Jarrett said, "Now that's a slapass."  Rikishi heard this and asked Jarrett what he said, Jarrett responded with, "You heard me, slapnuts."  Rikishi then shoved Jarrett and the two started brawling before officials broke it up.

Match #2: Booker T v. Rikishi.  The winner of this match will face the WPW Intercontinental Champion at WPW Aggression.  The crowd was into both men in this match and it was an entertaining bout.  Booker T would show his quickness and power against the big man, Rikishi while Rikishi showed his great power as well.  The closing moments of the match would see Booker T go for a Harlem Sidekick but Rikishi ducked then hit a superkick on Booker T knocking him into the corner.  Rikishi charged in for a big splash but Booker T moved and Booker T would clothesline Rikishi out.  Booker T was winded and Jeff Jarrett came down and broke his guitar over the head of Rikishi then rolled him back into the ring.  Booker T saw Jarrett and swore at him then went up top and would hit the Missile Dropkick on Rikishi and score the pinfall.  Booker T will challenge the WPW I-C Champion at Aggression.

WINNER: Booker T in 5:10.

Rating: ** 1/4

We went backstage again where we followed Kurt Angle down a hall until he found a dressing room marked, 'DDP'.  Angle was carrying a clipboard in hand as well.  Angle entered the room where DDP was stretching.

Angle:  "DDP, you heard we've got a match tonight against Chris Jericho and Sting, right?"

DDP:  "Yeah, what'd you want?"

Angle:  "Personally, I don't think a loner like Sting and loser like Chris Jericho will be able to outsmart us, me being an Olympic Gold Medalist and you being, well, anyways, I've devised a stragetic game plan on how we're going to defeat Y2J and Sting here tonight..."

DDP:  "A game plan?"

Angle:  "Yes, just like in the Olympics and it worked for me as I won the gold medal, it's true, it's true..."

Angle continued harping to DDP, who looked a little amused by Angle as we headed to a break...

Match #3: Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko v. The Mamalukes.  'Surfacing' by Slipknot blared over the loudspeakers as 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit and 'The Shooter' Dean Malenko walked out of the entrance to make their WPW wrestling debut.  Then, Disco Inferno led out The Mamalukes to the ring to take on Benoit and Malenko.  This would be a better match then expected as it was The Mamalukes brawling against the technical ability of Benoit and Malenko.  In the end, Dean Malenko would go for a gutbuster on Johnny The Bull but Johnny slid down the back and would hit a clothesline to the back of Malenko's head.  Johnny then tried his Spinning Flying Legdrop but Malenko rolled out of the way.  Malenko then locked on the Texas Cloverleaf for the submission victory.  The Crippler and The Shooter are impressively victorious in their in-ring debut.

WINNERS: Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko in 5:23.

Rating: ***

Match #4: D-Generation X v. The Four Horsemen.  Six-Man Tag Team Match.  'The Kings' by Run DMC blasted over the loudspeakers as D-Generation X's WPW World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H, Road Dogg and X-Pac made their way out to the ring.  Then, 'Stress' by Godsmack played and out came The Four Horsemen's Ken Shamrock, Al Snow and Steve Blackman.  The war between DX and the Horsemen continued here tonight in a very heated Six Man as Triple H avoided the challenger for his title at Aggression, Ken Shamrock for much of the match.  The closing moments of this match would see Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko walk down to ringside and watch the action.  Triple H distracted the referee while Road Dogg and X-Pac double teamed Ken Shamrock on the floor until Al Snow and Steve Blackman ran over and started brawling with Dogg and X-Pac.  Shamrock rolled into the ring hurt and Triple H would come out to the floor to help out DX.  Road Dogg backed up and rolled into the ring to get away from Snow and Blackman but as he backed up, Shamrock clipped him then locked on the Ankle Lock Submission!  Road Dogg was in great pain and tapped out right away!  The Four Horsemen take the Six-Man Tag!

WINNERS: The Four Horsemen in 9:12.

Rating: * 1/4

After the match, Triple H rolled into the ring and went face to face with Shamrock.  Triple H took a swipe but Shamrock ducked then took down HHH with a fujiwara armbar then went quickly to the leg and locked the World Champion in the Ankle Lock.  X-Pac was looking to sneak in but Benoit and Malenko took care of him as Triple H tapped out in pain!

We returned backstage to see Kurt Angle still talking to Diamond Dallas Page when Kimberly walked in and wished her husband good luck and hugged him.  Angle's eyes bulged out of his head...

Angle:  "Are you two married?"

DDP:  "Yeah, of course.."

Angle:  "PHEW!  I thought I was going to have give another lecture about Abstinence.  Next time, please, save it for the bedroom..."

DDP:  "But we just...nevermind."

Match #5: Chris Jericho & Sting v. Kurt Angle & Diamond Dallas Page.  This is a match thrown together by Commissioner Dibiase due to the problems between Sting & Angle and Jericho & DDP.  At WPW Aggression, Sting will get his rematch against Kurt Angle while Y2J will meet DDP.  Each man would make a seperate entrance with Angle choosing not to berate the fans this week.  This would be a unique and entertaining matchup between two of the more popular wrestlers, Jericho and Sting against the hated Angle and DDP, who the fans are starting to turn against due to his self-promoting arrogant attitude.  During the match, Angle rolled to the outside and got on the microphone and said, 'You do not BOO an Olympic gold medalist!  What is wrong with you people?  You cheer an American hero like myself, you do NOT BOO ME!'  The closing moments of the match would see Sting and DDP going at it.  DDP would go for the Diamond Cutter but Sting pushed DDP into Angle.  Sting then nailed the Scorpion Death Drop on Page for the one, two, three!  Sting has gained a pinfall over DDP and picked up the win for his team.

WINENRS: Chris Jericho and Sting in 8:15.

Rating: ** 1/4

Main Event: Ric Flair v. Billy Kidman.  It was time for our big Main Event as 'The Kings' by Run DMC brought out Billy Kidman to the ring.  Kidman was wearing black tear-aways and a DX T-Shirt.  Then, 'Sprach Zarathustra' sounded and the fans rose to their feet as 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair came out of the entrance.  Flair was livid as he charged the ring after Kidman.  Kidman ducked out and Flair talked some trash then let out a 'WHOOOOOOOO!'.  The match would soon get underway as a tentative Kidman finally locked up with Flair.  Flair sent Kidman into the corner and Kidman came out with a clothesline but Flair ducked and knocked down Kidman with a chop.  Flair opened up on Kidman with right hands and chops just wearing Kidman out.  Kidman would jab the throat of Flair then hit a suplex.  It was Kidman's turn to dish out some offense on Flair.  Kidman would then mock Flair's strut and let out a 'WHOOO!'  Flair and Kidman went back and forth in a very good match here on Sunday Night.  The closing moments of the match would see Flair go for an irish whip but Kidman reversed it and Flair flipped over then went up top but Kidman caught him and tossed him down to the mat.  Kidman then headed up to the top for the Shooting Star Press but Flair crotched Kidman on the top.  Flair went up and would hit a superplex on Kidman.  Flair then let out a WHOOOO! and went for the Figure-Four Leglock!  Flair's got it on!  Kidman writhed in pain but was near the ropes and would grab them!  Kidman quickly rolled out of the ring backing up the entrance way.  Flair rolled out and went after Kidman but Kidman ran.  Flair ran after Kidman chasing him through the backstage area.  Meanwhile in the ring, the referee called for the bell throwing the match out.  We cut back to Flair chasing Kidman.  Kidman went through a door into the parking lot but then tripped and Flair caught him.  Flair said some obscenities to Kidman then pounded on him with punches and chops.  Kidman was down on the ground but would low blow Flair once, then a second time.  Kidman then tried to smack Flair's head into a car but Flair blocked it and hit Kidman in the midsection.  Kidman would shove Flair then race into a car, start it and speed away from Flair as the show came to a close...
