WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - May 7 / 2000

-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-

The show opened with a black screen and white bold letters reading "LAST NIGHT - WRESTLEWAR 2000" That led us into stills and commentating clips of the PPV as Booker T defeated Chris Candido, Jeff Jarrett beat Vampiro, Rikishi and Too Cool overcame 3Count, D-Generation X took the win over The Four Horsemen with help of the aPa, Diamond Dallas Page beat Sting in an incredible Falls-Count-Anywhere match, DX interference led to Kidman beating Ken Shamrock, Kidman then warned DX and said he did not want to win the match that way.  Eddy Guerrero used a foriegn object to put out Chris Jericho and become the WPW Intercontinental Champion, The Hardy Boyz beat The Acolytes to become the WPW World Tag Team Champions.  The screen went black again and white bold letters came on saying, "TRIPLE H vs. RIC FLAIR - WPW WORLD TITLE MATCH"  That led us into several stills of the bloody war between the two men and the aPa watching the match from ringside.  Then a black screen with white letters said, "THE CHAOS" We saw stills of the referee getting knocked down, DX interfering and The Acolytes stopping The Four Horsemen before Kidman cleared the ring with a steel chair.  We cut to another black/white screen deal saying "THE DOUBLE CROSS"  We then saw

Kidman crank Flair in the head with the chair leading to Triple H becoming the WPW World Heavyweight Champion and the celebration between them and DX after the match.  We saw our final black screen with white letters as it said, "THE NIGHT AFTER..."

We cut to the opening as WPW Sunday Night opening set to 'No One's Real' by Powerman 5000 then live into the arena with fireworks blasting over the entrance and ring.  Then, "The Kings" by Run DMC started up over the PA system and the place turned to jeers as the WPW World Heavyweight Champion,Triple H, Road Dogg, X-Pac and the newest member of DX, Billy Kidman walked out to the ring.  Soon, Triple H would take the microphone...

Triple H:  "I'd like to start off by saying, Ric Flair, you are a stupid old man and I proved last night that you are not in my league because I am the GAME and we are D-Generation X.  I'd like to officialy welcome the newest member of D-Generation X, a man that proved that he bleeds green last night ... BILLY KIDMAN!"

Billy Kidman:  "Was there any doubt that we could pull this off without

a hitch?  I didn't think so.  The Horsemen played into our plot like pawns and all the pieces fell into place last night when I put Ken Shamrock on his back for the one-two-three all on my own.  Then it was the Main Event, Triple H against The Denture Boy, here comes DX, here comes The Horsemen for the save, they get blocked, here I come and BAM!  Flair is out cold and the world is shock!  In the airports they asked me, why Billy why?  I'll tell you why, because I am the new Superstar around here and it was time to put the old out to the pasture, we are new, Ric Flair is old, plain and simple.  And Ric, if you decide to show up in a WPW arena again, I'll finish what Triple H started..."

"Stress" by Godsmack cut-in over the PA and 'The World's Most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock walked out of the entrance with a microphone in hand...

Ken Shamrock:  "You know, last night, I was disgusted with your actions

Billy Kidman.  I'm here alone tonight because after what you did last night it made myself, Ric Flair, Al Snow and Steve Blackman all sick to our stomachs so Ric Flair got on a plane and flew home to Charlotte, Snow to Ohio and Blackman to Annvile.  I was going to board a plane home to Sacremento but instead, I took a flight here to Washington, D.C. because I knew I couldn't let you get away with this, anyof you!  Triple H, you're going to pay for being the coward that you are and I'm challenging YOU to a WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH right here TONIGHT!  That is if you've got the balls..."

Triple H:  "Let me think about it for a second, last night you lost to

Billy Kidman so what have you done to earn a title shot?  Nothing.  So here's your answer, jackass, the answer is NO!  So take your high school dropout ass back to Sacremento and get the hell out of my sight!"

The arena lights then went dark and on the screen and black silhouette of a man appeared on the big screen with a blue background.  The man then spoke but his voice was muffled and distorted...

"A lot of you must be wondering who I am.  I am the OWNER of the WPW and I choose not to be seen or heard because I live a private life.  As all of you wrestlers know, you have never met me and you do business with my lawyers instead.  I wasn't going to show up on television but after seeing what's gone down in the last month, I have found it appropriate to name a Commissioner to oversee day-to-day operations.  He is, TED DIBIASE!"

The lights returned and the silhouette disappeared as "MONEY! MONEY!"

sounded and out walked Ted Dibiase, the WPW Commissioner in a suit and

tie.  Dibiase had a microphone...

Ted Dibiase:  "Whoever the owner is, he's more wealthy and eccentric then I am but he's given me full power around here.  Tonight, Ken Shamrock, you will not face Triple H for the WPW World Heavyweight Title but you will face Billy Kidman in a No Holds Barred match with the winner to meet Triple H or whomever the champion is on June 3rd at WPW Aggression live on Pay-Per-View!"

We then went to a short break and returned to Scott Hudson, Mike Tenay

and Tony Schiavone at ringside as they ran down what had just happened

and the lineup for tonight, Chris Candido against Evan Karagias, Shane Helms and Shannon Moore take on Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie, Booker T will face Mike Rotundo, we'll hear from Sting, The Hardy Boyz defend their WPW World Tag Team Titles against Road Dogg & X-Pac, the WPW I-C Title is on the line as Eddy Guerrero defends against Diamond Dallas Page and in our Main Event, Number One Contenders, No Holds Barred, Ken Shamrock meets Billy Kidman!  All that and much, much more...

Opening match: Evan Karagias v. Chris Candido.  We returned to a dark arena as 'Can't Get You Out Of My Heart' played as 3Count was in the ring lip synching to it.  Then, "Back In Black" by AC/DC blared over the PA as 'No Gimmicks Needed' Chris Candido along with Tammy Lynn Sytch made his way out to the ring.  This was a solid opening contest between two hard working wrestlers coming off losses last night at WrestleWar 2000.  The closing moments of the match would see Tammy Lynn Sytch come up on the apron and distract Evan Karagias.  That would allow Candido to hit a belly to back suplex then take Karagias up to the top rope and deliever the Blond Bombshell for the one...two...three!  Chris Candido picks up the win over Evan Karagias with a little help from Tammy.

WINNER: Chris Candido in 6:01.

Rating: ** 1/4

We headed backstage to the office of the aPa where as usual, Faarooq and Bradshaw were in the middle of a tough days work, poker, cigars and beer when there was a knock at the door and Road Dogg and X-Pac walked in carrying a briefcase.  Bradshaw said, "What in the hell?  You two punks again? This is where we draw the line."  Road Dogg responded, "We've got a tag team titles shot against The Hardy Boyz tonight and they might, uh, uh, uhm, we need protection against their high flying moves and we've got cash, lots of cash, show him' X-Pac."  X-Pac put the briefcase on the table and opened it up and Faarooq said, "We'll see what we can do..."  We then cut to a commercial...

Match #2: Stevie Richards & Blue Meanie v. Shane Helms & Shannon Moore.

The lights were out and we thought 3Count was going to perform again but a blue haze came up and Stevie & Meanie were in the ring dressed like 3Count with t-shirts on reading, '2Count'.  They danced a bit until Shane Helms and Shannon Moore of 3Count raced out to the ring and our tag team match was on.  3Count took control from the beginning until Stevie and Meanie came back and showed some talent.  The match went back and forth for a couple minutes until Richards hit a Stevie Bomb on Helms.  Richards lined up Helms for a Stevie Kick but Moore ran over to the corner and pulled Richards down.  Helms would hit a reverse neckbreaker on Richards then went up to the top rope and nailed the Sugar Splash on Richards for the one, two, THREE!  3Count takes a good tag team win over Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie.

WINNERS: 3Count (Shane Helms and Shannon Moore) in 5:13.

Rating: * 1/4

We cut to the wrestler's entrance as Chris Jericho came through the doors and looked pretty pissed off with a bandage on his forehead after getting hit by Eddy Guerrero last night at WrestleWar which allowed Guerrero to become I-C Champion...

Match #3: Mike Rotundo v. Booker T.  We came back with Mike Rotundo already in the ring being introduced.  Then, "Up In Here" by DMX played as Booker T headed out to the ring in a blaze of pyro.  Booker T is coming off a strong win over Chris Candido last night while Rotundo is making his WPW Sunday Night debut.  This was a fairly quick matchup with Booker T dominating riding his momenteum from last night.  In the end, Booker T would hit his Missile Dropkick on Rotundo for the three count.

WINNER: Booker T in 3:58.

Rating: *

"Seek And Destroy" by Metallica blared over the loudspeakers as Sting

headed out to the ring in black pants, a Sting T-Shirt and his face paint on.  Sting came into the ring and took a microphone...

Sting:  "Last night at WrestleWar 2000, Diamond Dallas Page and I went

one-on-one in one of the most intense and insane matches of my career

and on that night, Diamond Dallas Page was just a little bit better but

don't fear because the Stinger isn't looking back, I'm just looking forward to the future here in WPW and I've got my eyes locked dead on the World Heavyweight Title! OWWWWWWWW!"

Then ... "My Hero" by Foo Fighters started up over the loudspeakers and

about 30 seconds into the song, KURT ANGLE walked out of the entrance in wrestling tights with his Olympic gold medals hanging around his neck and a microphone in hand.  Angle circled around and pretending to embrace the crowd.  The song would soon die out as Angle began on the microphone..

Kurt Angle:  "A lot of you are probably wondering why I, Kurt Angle, an

Olympic gold medalist would grace all of you with my presence here tonight in World Pro-Wrestling.  You see, I felt that Washington needed someone they could call their hero, after all this is a city that was once led by a crack smoking, gambling drug addict, not to mention that our very own filthy cheating President makes his residence here when he's not out with some fat intern.  It's true, it's true.  On a more larger scale, being an Olympic champion, something that none of you can relate to, I am a clean cut role model for America's children, it's true.  I sat at home and I watched some of this WPW and what did I see?  I didn't see anyone with the heroic qualities to be a role model that I, Kurt Angle posses.  I mean the closest thing you have to a hero is this face painting, leather wearing, freak in the ring that calls himself 'Sting'.  I mean, what has the world come to? Open your eyes people!  What has Sting ever done except lose to a piece of trailer park trash like Diamond Dallas Page last night?  Way to go Sting, nice work, buddy.  So I am here to save the WPW and provide each and every one of you with someone that you can look up to and provide the viewers at home with some good wholesome values."

Sting:  "Kurt Angle, are you finished yet?"

Kurt Angle:  "As a matter of fact..."

Sting:  "I don't care if your finished because I just listened to your

B.S. for a few minutes that I'll never get back.  You think your a hero? Well, hero, prove it to me and the world right here and right now!  You look like you're dressed for a match so Mr. Olympic Gold Medalist, bring your ass on down here and step into my world, step into the Stinger's world because it's SHOWTIME!"

Kurt Angle:  "I'd love to but there's no referee..."

Chief referee Nick Patrick walks out and into the ring...

Kurt Angle:  "Ah geez ... uhm, alright but your making a big mistake Sting because I am the most celebrated real athlete in wrestling history not a phony like you!"

That set Sting off as he charged out of the ring and grabbed Angle and

brought him back into the ring as Nick Patrick rang the bell...

Match #4: Sting v. Kurt Angle.  This impromptu match got underway with

Sting pounding on Angle for a minute or so until Angle retreated to the

outside and regained his composure taking off his medals and placing them in the corner for safe keeping.  Angle got back into the ring and locked up with Sting and took him down with a fireman's carry then celebrated like he'd won another Olympic medal.  They locked up again and again Angle took him down.  They locked up a third time and Sting threw Angle into the corner and began chopping away on Angle.  These two men had a really solid amtch back and forth as Angle even tried to vary from his amateur style pulling out a moonsault at one point.  The closing moments of the match would see Angle go for a suplex but Sting countered it with a suplex of his own.  Sting then sent Angle into the corner and connected with a Stinger Splash and Angle just dropped down to the canvas.  The referee backed Sting away and Angle put one of his medals in his hand and when Sting came back over, Angle popped Sting in the head with the medal.  Angle quickly disposed of it before the referee could see and pinned Sting with a handful of tights, very hero-like, for the one...two...THREE!  Kurt Angle picks up a HUGE yet cheated win over Sting!  Angle was over joyed with his win until Sting got up and Angle ran like a little girl.  This is not over!

WINNER: Kurt Angle in 7:15.

Rating: ** 3/4

Match #5: WPW World Tag Team Titles - The Hardy Boyz [c] v. Road Dogg &

X-Pac.  "The Kings" by Run DMC blared over the loudspeakers as DX's Road Dogg and X-Pac made their way out to the ring for a shot at the tag team titles.  Then, "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit played as the WPW World Tag Team Champions, The Hardy Boyz headed out to the ring.  The Hardy Boyz proved why they are tag team champions as they went toe-to-toe with Road Dogg and X-Pac.   There was lots of high flying involved when X-Pac was in the ring as well.  During the match, The Acolytes would come to ringside. The closing moments of the match would see Road Dogg and X-Pac double teaming Matt Hardy on the outside.  X-Pac distracted the referee and Jeff Hardy as Road Dogg told The Acolytes to get Matt Hardy but instead Bradshaw took off Road Dogg's head with a Clothesline From Hell.  Bradshaw then tossed Road Dogg in the ring.  Matt Hardy pulled X-Pac of the apron as Jeff Hardy went up top and nailed the Senton Bomb on Road Dogg for the one...two...THREE!  The Hardy Boyz retain the World Tag Team Titles over D-Generation X as The Acolytes have shown their more then hired goons.

WINNERS: The Hardy Boyz in 6:44.

Rating: ** 3/4

(The Hardy Boyz retained the WPW World Tag Team Titles.)

Match #6: WPW Intercontinental Title - Eddy Guerrero [c] v. Diamond Dallas Page.  We had another title match next as two men that had grueling matches last night hooked it up tonight.  "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana blared over the loudspeakers as Diamond Dallas Page headed out to the ring for an I-C Title shot one night after his Falls-Count-Anywhere win over Sting.  Then, "Prime Time" by The Alkaholiks blared over the PA speakers as the WPW Intercontinental Champion, Eddy Guerrero walked out to the ring for this title defense.  DDP was still in a brawling mood from last night as he took Guerrero to the outside early on.  This would be another solid match as DDP went after the freshly won IC Title of Eddy Guerrero while Guerrero used every trick in the book to try and retain.  The closing moments of the match would see DDP hit a tombstone piledriver on Guerrero then signal for the Diamond Cutter but Eddy Guerrero pulled an object out of his tights and put it in his hand.  DDP came in and in the same fashion

as last night, Guerrero nailed DDP but only hit him in the gut which doubled DDP over hard.  CHRIS JERICHO then raced out from the locker room and began wailing away on Guerrero with punches as the referee would call for the bell.  Jericho would then clothesline Guerrero out of the ring and work up the crowd.  That's when DDP got to his feet and pulled around Jericho and shoved him saying, "You got me DQ'ed!"  DDP and Jericho got in each other's faces then came to blows before officials would break them up!

WINNER: Eddy Guerrero via DQ in 8:43.

Rating: ***

(Eddy Guerrero retained the WPW Intercontinental Title.)

Main Event: Ken Shamrock v. Billy Kidman. Number One Contenders - No Holds Barred Match.  It was time for our Main Event matchup as ordered by new Commissioner Ted Dibiase to determine who will challenge Triple H for the WPW World Heavyweight Title at Aggression.  These two men met less then 24 hours ago where DX interfered helping Kidman win before we knew that Kidman was in on it.  "The Kings" by Run DMC blared over the loudspeakers as Billy Kidman headed out to the ring wife a black wife beater instead of a white one.  Then, "Stress" by Godsmack blared over the PA system as 'The Worlds Most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock stalked his way out to the ring getting into the zone.  Shamrock went right after Kidman at the bell throwing Kidman to the outside and going after him.  Shamrock pounded away on Kidman for a few moments until he rolled Kidman into the ring.  Shamrock sent Kidman into the ropes but Kidman slid through the legs of Shamrock then dropkicked the back of Shamrock's leg.  Kidman stomped away on Shamrock then hit a hiptoss and a legdrop.  Kidman picked up Shamrock and sent him into the ropes and went for a backdrop but Shamrock countered it with a DDT.  Shamrock then would soon go for a frankensteiner but Kidman dropped out with a DDT of his own.  This No Holds Barred wore on for a little bit back and forth between the two men until Kidman went for an inverted suplex

but Shamrock drove him down with an armbar then went around the back and locked Kidman in the Ankle Lock!  However, Road Dogg and X-Pac charged into the ring and Shamrock released the hold.  Shamrock tried to fight them off but couldn't.  The referee couldn't DQ Kidman, either.  That's when out of the crowd came CHRIS BENOIT and DEAN MALENKO!!! Benoit and Malenko took care of Road Dogg and X-Pac brawling with them to the outside leaving Kidman and Shamrock but out came TRIPLE H.  Triple H was coming down the aisleway but out of nowhere raced RIC FLAIR, what is he doing here?, with a steel chair!  Flair cranked Triple H in the back with the chair then rolled into the ring and Kidman saw him.  Flair yelled at Kidman and Kidman backed off until Ken Shamrock shoved him forward and Flair cranked Kidman with the chair!  Shamrock applied the Ankle Lock on Kidman and the referee called for the bell!  SHAMROCK WINS!  KEN SHAMROCK will face TRIPLE H!

Number-One-Contenders-Match

WINNER: Ken Shamrock in 11:34.

Rating: *** 3/4

After the match, Ric Flair raised the hand of Ken Shamrock as he was announced the winner while Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko rolled into the ring and had a standoff with Flair and Shamrock as the show came to a close!  What a night of surprises!
