WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - April 30 / 2000

-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-

We open with a video package of last week's show as the show opened with Ric Flair searching for answers as to who beat up his son, David before the show.  Flair got his answer as Kidman provided KidCam footage of D-Generation X attacking David.  The Semi-Finals for the WPW Intercontinental Title Tournament were set, Sting and Diamond Dallas Page agreed to meet at WrestleWar and Triple H faced Ken Shamrock in a No DQ Main Event match with Kidman at ringside as a special guest commentator.  Tension built between Kidman and Triple H throughout the match until HHH piefaced Kidman. Kidman chased him with a chair and inadvertantly nailed Ken Shamrock with the chair which would lead to a Triple H win.  We cut to the opening as WPW Sunday Night opening set to 'No One's Real' by Powerman 5000 then live into the arena!

"The Kings" by Run DMC blared over the loudspeakers as D-Generation X's Triple H, Road Dogg and X-Pac came out of the entrance and headed out to the ring to kick off the show.  Triple H took the microphone...

Triple H:  "Last week, Ken Shamrock got what he deserved after I proved

that I am the smartest man in this business but do you think I'm done?

Ric Flair, I'm not done by a long shot.  In just under a week, live across the nation on Pay-Per-View, I am going to tear your ass apart, Ric Flair, in front of the world, I will beat the man and not only will I be the man, I will be World Heavyweight Champion because I am the GAME and I'm just that damn good!  You know, we were sitting around the hotel room last night, trying to come up with a way to take out the Horsemen and take out that little runt, Billy Kidman, in one match here tonight and we have our challenge.  Later tonight, in this very ring, I will team with X-Pac in a Triangle Elimination Match against Ric Flair & Ken Shamrock and a team of Billy Kidman with a partner of his choosing.  There you have it."

Road Dogg: "And if you've got a problem with that..."

X-Pac: "Then suck on this!"

"The Kings" played again as we cut to the announcers table where Scott Hudson, Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone were seated.  They previewed the nights card which includes Booker T against Crash Holly, Grandmaster Sexy against Shannon Moore, The Acolytes face Al Snow and Steve Blackman, Eddy Guerrero takes on Rikishi, Sting versus Jeff Jarrett versus Diamond Dallas Page in a Three Way Dance, Scottie Too Hottie battles Shane Helms, Chris Jericho goes up against Vampiro and in the Main Event, we just heard that it will be a Three Way Dance as Triple H & X-Pac face Ric Flair & Ken Shamrock and Billy Kidman and a partner of his choice.  All of that and more as we head into WPW WrestleWar 2000!

Opening Match: Booker T v. Crash Holly.  "Up In Here" by DMX brought

Booker T out to the ring first for our first matchup of the evening here on WPWSN.  Then, "Dirty Deeds" by AC/DC brought out Crash Holly.  Booker T beat Crash in the I-C Title Tournament, then Crash cost Booker T a match against Eddy Guerrero so tonight, Booker T gets a chance for revenge against Crash Holly.  Crash Holly would put up another good fight against Booker T but just didn't have enough to put Booker T away.  The final moments of the match saw Booker T hit a vertical facebuster then spinarooni up to his feet and hit a Harlem Sidekick on Crash.  Booker T then headed to the top rope and nailed the Missile Dropkick on Crash for the one-two-three. Booker T has put Crash Holly down for the count again...

WINNER: Booker T in 4:09.

Rating: * 3/4

Match #2: Grandmaster Sexy v. Shannon Moore.  This was another match in

the ongoing feud between Too Cool and 3Count as 'Can't Get You Out Of My Heart' played as Shannon Moore headed out to the ring to

boos from the crowd.  Then, "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan played as Grandmaster Sexy danced out to the ring.  This was a good mix of technical and high flying action with quite a bit of intensity between the two men. The closing moments of the match would see Grandmaster Sexy try a power bomb but Shannon Moore countered it with a backdrop then Grandmaster got to his feet and Shannon charged at Grandmaster with a lariat but Sexay ducked and caught the arm and then locked Shannon in a Full Nelson and hit the Full Nelson Faceslam.  Grandmaster Sexy then climbed to the top rope, put on the goggles and shined them up then came off with the Flying Legdrop for the one...two...THREE!  Grandmaster Sexy pulls out the win over Shannon Moore!

WINNER: Grandmaster Sexy in 6:01.

Rating: ** 3/4

We headed backstage to the office of the aPa where Bradshaw and Faarooq sat drinking beer, smoking cigars and playing poker when Road Dogg and X-Pac came through the makeshift door, leaving it open.  X-Pac said they're here to strike a deal but Bradshaw told him this a closed doors meeting and to close the damn door which X-Pac quickly did.  DX started talking as we cut away to a commercial break.

Match #3: The Acolytes v. Al Snow & Steve Blackman.  This was the final

Semi-Final round match in the WPW World Tag Team Titles Tournament with

the winners to go on to WrestleWar 2000 to face The Hardy Boyz for the

vacant titles.  "Ironman" by Black Sabbath played as the fans popped for the entrance of The Acolytes.  Then, Al Snow and Steve Blackman of The Four Horsemen made their way out to "Keep Away" by Godsmack.  This was a solid power against technical match.  The final moments of the match saw Steve Blackman hit his Jumping Sidekick on Faarooq but Bradshaw came in and broke up the count.  Bradshaw tossed Blackman out of the ring and Snow came in and Bradshaw threw him out of the ring.  The Acolytes distracted the referees as Road Dogg and X-Pac ran out and pummeled The Horsemen on the outside.  Al Snow was rolled into the ring and Faarooq hit the Dominator on him for the win.  The Acolytes walked out of the ring as Road Dogg and X-Pac handed cash over to The Acolytes.  A pretty good deal for The Acolytes just for DX to stick it to The Horsemen, eh?

WINNERS: The Acolytes in 4:27.

Rating: 1/2*

Match #4: Eddy Guerrero v. Rikishi.  This was a Semi-Final round match

in the WPW Intercontinental Title Tournament as "Dead Wrong" by Notorious B.I.G. blared over the PA and out came Eddy Guerrero to a chorus of jeers from the crowd.  Then, "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan blared over the loudspeakers as the man with a huge fan following and rear-end, Rikishi made his way out to the ring.  Eddy Guerrero was up against a man more then twice his size in this one.  This was a decent match as Rikishi tried to overpower and dominate Guerrero while Guerrero kept it quick and went to the air a lot and worked over the legs of Rikishi.  The closing moments of the match would see Eddy Guerrero go for a Gory Special but couldn't and Rikishi squashed him into the corner.  Rikishi then slammed Guerrero down and went up for a Banzai Drop but Evan Karagias was out and nailed Rikishi with a green circle as the ref's view was blocked.  Eddy Guerrero went up top and nailed the Frog Splash on Rikishi for the one, two, and

three!  Eddy Guerrero is going to the finals of the Intercontinental Title Tournament!

WINNER: Eddy Guerrero in 6:03.

Rating: ** 3/4

Some replay footage was shown then we headed backstage where Eddy Guerrero had some comments...

Eddy Guerrero:  "Rikishi, I just beat your fatass all on my own and whether it be Chris Jericho or Vampiro, at WrestleWar, Seré el nuevo campeón intercontinental de WPW y no hay nada que cualquier persona puede hacer sobre él. I will be the new WPW Intercontinental Champion and there's nothing anyone can do about it!  Remember, everything I do is for la raza, man,it's all for you!"

We cut to a shot of Sting preparing for the Three Way Dance, then a shot of Jeff Jarrett demanding to know why he has to be put in the middle of Sting and DDP then we finally saw a shot of Diamond Dallas Page warming up for the match.  It's next...

Match #5: Sting v. Jeff Jarrett v. Diamond Dallas Page.  Three Way Dance. "Seek And Destroy" by Metallica played as Sting made his way out to the ring first to a big pop from the crowd.  Then, Jeff Jarrett headed out to the ring to boos and "Cowboy" by Kid Rock.  Finally, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana blared over the loudspeakers as Diamond Dallas Page made his entrance.  All three men were in the ring at the same time with Sting and DDP going after eachother and Jarrett staying out of the way but DDP and Sting would then team up to beat up Jarrett and we had all three men going at it.  This was a really exciting match that was really back and forth and had tons of near falls.  The closing moments of the match would see Sting knock down DDP with a lariat.  Jarrett seized the opportunity and drove Sting into the mat with the Stroke.  Jarrett made the cover for the one...two...DDP breaks it up!  DDP pulled Jarrett up and connected with a Diamond Cutter.  DDP then made the cover on Jarrett for the one...two...thr...STING BREAKS UP THE PIN!  DDP then tried a Diamond Cutter on Sting but Sting blocked it and hiptossed DDP over the top to

the outside.  Jeff Jarrett was staggered up and went for the Stroke again but Sting blocked it and hit the Scorpion Death Drop on Jarrett.  Sting made the pin for the one...two...three before DDP could break it up!

WINNER: Sting in 8:53.

Rating: *** 1/4

We headed backstage where Billy Kidman was ready to announce who will be his partner later on in the Triangle Elimination Match...

Billy Kidman:  "Triple H, you're a sorry ass excuse for a man after what you did to Ric Flair's son so I'll take pleasure in kicking your ass here tonight.  As for Ken Shamrock, I can't wait to get my hands on you either, man.  Everyone's wondering who my partner will be so let me bring him in right now, a man that I can trust ... Booker T!"

Booker T walks in and hugs Kidman...

Booker T: "DX! Horsemen!  It doesn't matter who it is, sucka because

with Booker T and Kidman together, it's gonna be hotter then 110th street in there and it's gonna be on like a neckbone, sucka.  Now can you dig it?"

Match #6: Scottie Too Hottie v. Shane Helms.  The ongoing feud between

Too Cool and 3Count raged on as Scottie Too Hottie took on "Sugar" Shane Helms in singles action.  This would be another exciting match produced by this feud.  The closing moments of action in this matchup would see Sugar Shane go for a running power bomb but Scottie countered it with an over the top sunset flip rollup for a near fall.  Scottie then hit a pumphandle slam on Helms and went up top for a moonsault but Helms rolled out of the way.  Helms then planted Scottie with a T-Bone Suplex. Helms headed up to the top rope and came off with the Sugar Splash, right on target for the one...two...THREE!  Shane Helms is victorious over Scottie Too Hottie!  After the match, Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore ran out and helped triple team Scottie until Grandmaster Sexy and Rikishi came to the save and ran off 3Count except for Shane Helms who was caught in a belly-to-belly by Rikishi.  Rikishi placed Helms in the corner and gave him a face full of ass for his troubles.

WINNER: Shane Helms in 6:32.

Rating: ** 3/4

Match #7: Chris Jericho v. Vampiro.  The winner of this matchup will go

on to WrestleWar 2000 to face Eddy Guerrero for the vacant WPW Intercontinental Title.  "Take It" by ICP blared over the loudspeakers as Vampiro made his way out to the ring first.  Then the lights went out and we counted down, "5...4...3...2...1" and in a blast of pyro, "Break Down The Walls" played and Chris Jericho emerged from the entrance with a microphone in hand...

Chris Jericho: "WELCOME TO SUNDAY NIGHT JERICHO!  Look here, Vampira,

we have some things in common, we're both Canadian, we're both young,

we're both wrestling here tonight but there's one thing we don't have

in common and that you will never eh...eh...ever the ayatollah of rock'n'rollah.  Tonight at the hands of Chris Jericho you will receive the Y2J beating you deserve as I slap that silly paint right off your face and go on to JerichoWar 2000 and infront of the millions of Jericholics live on Pay-Per-View become the undisputed, Intercontinental Champion!"

The match would then get underway and it was on heck of a match between

the two men fighting it out to determine who will go to WrestleWar to

get a shot at gold and who won't.  The closing moments of this match

would see Vampiro hit a series of kicks then slowly head up top for a

big move but Jericho stopped him then went up and hit his Lionspike off

the top.  Jericho then hit a springboard asai moonsault on Vampiro for

the one...two...thr..NO! Vampiro got a shoulder up!  Jericho pulled Vampiro up and Vampiro punched him in the gut then hit a kick to the shin and tried a roundhouse kick but Jericho ducked, kicked Vampiro in the gut then drove him into the mat with a power bomb, Jericho turned Vampiro over into the Walls Of Jericho and Vampiro had no choice but to tap out from the pain!  Chris Jericho had his hand raised numerous times but as he was in the aisleway, Jeff Jarrett raced by with a guitar in hand and as Vampiro got up, Jarrett knocked him back down and out with a guitar shot to the head!  Jarrett smacked Vampiro and yelled at him!  A match with these two will be signed!

WINNER: Chris Jericho in 6:35.

Rating: *** 1/2

We cut to a shot of Booker T and Billy Kidman walking through the back

when Tammy Lynn Sytch comes out of a dressing room and Booker T accidently bumps into her and knocks her over.  We then cut to a shot of Triple H and X-Pac coming out of their dressing room and finally Ken Shamrock and Ric Flair making their way through the back.  The Main Event is next!

Main Event: Triple H & X-Pac v. Ric Flair & Ken Shamrock v. Billy Kidman & Booker T.  Triangle Elimination.  "Fuel" by Metallica blared over the PA as the team of Billy Kidman and Booker T made their way out to the ring first.  Next, "ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!" was heard and out of the entrance emerged Triple H and X-Pac of D-Generation X.  Finally, "Sprach Zarathustra" sounded and out came our final team, The Four Horsemen's "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock.  This match would follow normal Australian tag team rules but the men in the ring can tag anyone on the outside.  This is also elimination style so when a member of your team is pinned, you head to the back then the match continues until one team is left.  This match began with Ken Shamrock and Triple H going at it.  Shamrock would hit a Yakuza kick on The Game for a two count. Shamrock then tried a takeover suplex but Triple H countered it with a belly-to-belly suplex.  Triple H went into brawling mode punching Shamrock a few times, Shamrock returned fire but Triple H kneed him in the gut then hit a double-axehandle to the back.  Triple H would tag out to X-Pac. The two a double forearm smash on Shamrock and continued to double team him until Ric Flair came in and knocked down Triple H, who would quickly

leave the ring.  Meanwhile, Shamrock would hit a frankensteiner on X-Pac for a two count.  Shamrock tagged in Ric Flair.  Flair went to town on X-Pac with chops until Triple H came in and Flair chopped away on him. X-Pac then hit an enzuigiri on Flair knocking him down.  X-Pac tagged in Billy Kidman.  Kidman didn't really want to fight Flair but went ahead and fought.  This exciting Main Event match wore on back and forth until we had our first elimination.  Ken Shamrock and Booker T were going at it as Booker T hit a sidekick on Shamrock.  Booker T tug in Kidman and the two double teamed Shamrock until Flair came in and threw Booker T out of the ring.  That's when out of the crowd, Chris Candido hopped over the guardrail and broke a bottle over the head of Booker T.  Candido then, as quickly as he came in, hopped over the guardrail on the other side and ran through the crowd!  Kidman and Shamrock were exchanging punches until Kidman went for his swinging bulldog but Shamrock blocked Kidman and shoved him over the top to the outside.  Shamrock went after Kidman and pounded on him, on the outside.  Shamrock smacked Kidman's head into the ring post and steps then tried a frankensteiner but Kidman countered it with a power

bomb on the floor!  Kidman then went up on the apron and nailed a running shooting star press onto Shamrock!!!! The bell rang and the ring announcer said, "The winners of this match as a result of a double countout .... TRIPLE H and X-PAC!"

WINNERS: Triple H & X-Pac in 12:49.

Rating: *** 1/2

Shamrock and Kidman continued to fight on the outside as an irate, Ric Flair got into the ring and started pounding away on both Triple H and X-Pac, with chops, punches, low blows, until Road Dogg ran out and nailed Flair from behind.  Flair was being triple teamed until Snow and Blackman bolted out and took care of Road Dogg and X-Pac brawling out of the ring with them, which left Ric Flair and Triple H in the ring as the show came to a close!  See you on Saturday for WPW WrestleWar 2000!
