WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2 - April 23 / 2000 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- We open in the back of the arena where Ric Flair is knelt
over his son, David Flair, who is a bloody and battered mess. Flair is screaming for medics and demanding to know who did this. As EMT's treat to David Flair, we cut to a
video package of last week's show, as Ken Shamrock and Billy Kidman went to a
fifteen minute draw, the first round of the I-C Title Tournament concluded, and
Triple H moved on to face Ric Flair for the vacant World Heavyweight Title at
WrestleWar 2000 as he overcame Diamond Dallas Page in contreversial
fashion. We cut to the opening as WPW
Sunday Night opening set to 'No One's Real' by Powerman 5000 then live into the
arena! Opening Match: Al Snow & Steve Blackman v. Road Dogg
& X-Pac. This was a Quarterfinal Round match in the WPW World Tag Team
Titles Tournament as The Four Horsemen's Al Snow and Steve Blackman came to
the ring first to the instrumental version of 'Keep Away' by Godsmack as
always. Then, 'The Kings' by Run DMC
brought out Road Dogg and X-Pac of D-Generation X giving crotch chops to the
crowd. Once in the ring, Road Dogg would
take a microphone... Road Dogg: "It's me, it's me, it's that D-O-Double
G, rollin' once again with that X to the P to the A to the C and this town
stinks as we can't wait to leave because quite frankly we'd rather be in
Kuwait. As for your mommas, I couldn't
even do her with a rubber because she's bigger then flubber. Now Al Snow and Steve Blackman, the Four
Horsemen, what a joke. You want to step
up to D-Generation X? We've knocked you
both down before and tonight it will be no different so close your eyes, open
your mouthes and suck it!" The bell rang and the match was underway with Steve
Blackman starting out against X-Pac.
Both Road Dogg and X-Pac will have to wrestle twice here tonight, this match and in I-C Title Tournament
action later on in the show. This
would be a good and competitive match that was wrestled mostly by Al Snow and X-Pac. The final moments saw Al Snow go for a
moonsault on X-Pac but Road Dogg crotched Snow on the top. Blackman came over and knocked Road Dogg off
the apron with a Jumping Kick then went after him. X-Pac went up top and brought Snow down to
the canvas with a belly-to-back superplex.
X-Pac made the cover for a two count then brought Snow to his feet. X-Pac laid in kicks to the midsection then
tried a roundhouse kick but Snow ducked then picked up X-Pac and hit the Snow
Plow! Snow made the cover for the one,
two, three. Al Snow and Steve Blackman
have gotten revenge on DX and advanced to face The Acolytes in the Semi-Finals
next week. WINNERS: The Four Horsemen (Al Snow and Steve Blackman)
in 5:38. Rating: ** We returned with
"Sprach Zarathustra" playing over the loudspeakers as Ric Flair
walked out of the entrance with his suit coat off and his sleeves rolled
up. Flair stormed into the ring and took
a microphone... Ric Flair:
"I'm not playing around tonight, this has gone way beyond wrestling, way beyond Sports Entertainment and I want
answers, damnit! I want ANSWERS! And I'm not leaving this ring until I get
them, until I find out who beat up my son. I want answers, damnit! I'm not asking, I'm demanding that if anyone in the back knows who punked
out my kid, come out here right now and tell me!" "Fuel"
by Metallica starts up over the loudspeakers and the fans rise to their feet as BILLY KIDMAN emerges from the entrance
with his KidCam in hand. Kidman slaps
a few fans hands then makes his way into the ring. Ric Flair:
"Do you got answers? If not
then get outta here!" Billy Kidman:
"Ric Flair, I've looked up to you for my whole career but this
isn't about that and it's not about Billy Kidman, it's about finding out who
punked out David." Ric Flair: "Cut to the chase, Kidman, do you know
who did it or not?" Billy Kidman:
"I'm not one to judge, but I left my KidCam recording while I went
to catering and when I came back, I played it back and watched and I've gotten
the boys in the truck to set the tape up on the big screen. So if you want
answers, Ric, then take a look at the big screen..." (The big screen
shows KidCam footage of David Flair standing around backstage when from behind, X-Pac and Road Dogg level
him. Triple H comes into the picture with a pair of brass knuckles on
his hand and as X-Pac and Road Dogg hold David Flair, Triple H busts him
open with a shot his exposed forehead.
Triple H continues to pound on David telling him to send that message
along to his daddy. DX then gets out of
there as the footage ends. We return to
the ring where Ric Flair is visibly steaming.) Billy Kidman: "There you have it, Ric. I just want you to know that I've got your
back, what those guys did?! That was totally uncalled for, I'm just glad I
could help..." Ric Flair:
"Finally some honest, great young talent in this business, thank you, Kidman and thanks for saying you've got my
back but I've got The Horsemen. If
there were five, you'd be number five right now but there's only room for four but thanks a lot." (Flair shakes Kidman's hand and Kidman heads out of the
ring and Flair's demeanor returns to enraged.) Ric Flair:
"Triple H, you gutless son of a bitch! That was uncalled for pal, and there's a little saying that what goes
around, comes around and at WrestleWar 2000, at first it was just about to the
title, now you made it personal and brother, you're gonna get yours, I
guarantee it. You call yourself the Game?
Well, I was selling out arenas, headlining all over the country while
you were still in diapers, pal and I may be middle aged but I can still take
you to school and until you prove you can beat the man, then you will never be
the man, all you'll be is a game. WHOOOO!
Triple H! I don't want to wait until WrestleWar, I want your ass right
here tonight because I am Ric Flair and you are nothing! WHOOO! Come on'
Helmsley! Get your ass out here! COME
ON!" '1...2...ZIS
ON?!" With that, "The Game" Triple H walked out of
the entrance with his head down in the lights.
The music played for a few moments as Triple H walked down the ramp and
up onto the apron as the lights came back on.
The music died out and Triple H began... Triple H:
"You put one finger on me, Flair, and the match at WrestleWar will
be off and you will NEVER get your hands on me.
You come out here spewing your aged cliches like 'To Be The Man, you
gotta beat the man, whoo!' Well, Ric
Flair, cliches are cliches and an ass kicking is an ass kicking and that's what
I'm going to do to you at WrestleWar. I
already sent your son to the hospital but I'm going to phone up the hospital
and have them reserve a bed right next to him in the emergency room for your
body when I'm through with you, Flair.
There's only one reason that I can do all of this and that's because I
am the GAME. You want to know why I'm
the Game? BECAUSE I'M THAT DAMN
GOOD!" Ric Flair:
"You running scared, Triple H but that's all fine and well because I've done a little power playing of my own and
tonight, in this ring, you will go one-on-one with "The World's Most
Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock in a No Disqualification match! WHOOOOO! Don't worry, Game, because I'll tell Shamrock to go easy on you, and leave
you with maybe one leg and an arm working for WrestleWar. Oh and Triple H, there one reason that I can do all of this and that's because I am
the NATURE BOY and there is only one Ric Flair, WHOOOOO! Now, hit the road, jack, because you've got a match tonight, Game." Triple H: "If
you thought what I did to David was cruel and sadistic, you've just dug your own grave, Ric and I swear if it's
the last thing I do, I'll drive you out of this sport once and for
all!" "My
Time" played as Triple H headed to the back... Match #2: Scottie Too Hottie v. Shannon Moore. The feud between Too Cool and 3Count
continued in this singles match. 'Can't
Get You Out Of My Heart' played first as "The Enigma" Shannon Moore
made his way out to the ring first.
Then, Scottie Too Hottie came out next to the sounds of "This Is
How We Do It" by Montell Jordan.
Scottie did a little dancing then removed his glasses and coat so this
match could get underway. Scottie worked
up the crowd clapping his hands over his head and encouraging a chant of
"3Count SUCKS!" This would be
a really good and fast paced, high flying match between Scottie and
Shannon. The closing moments of the
match would see Shannon hit a swinging bulldog on Scottie then put Shannon up
on the top rope. Shannon went for a
Top-Rope Frankensteiner but Scottie countered it holding on to the top
rope. Scottie then came off and caught
Shannon Moore in his Flying DDT. Scottie
made the cover for the one, two, three.
Scottie then got to his feet and got that look in his eyes. Scottie then delievered THE WORM on Moore to
a massive pop from the crowd! WINNER: Scottie Too Hottie in 6:01. Rating: *** 1/4 We would then see
a commercial for the Acolytes Protection Agency, the aPa. The commercial was a Pulp Fiction knockoff
with Bradshaw and Faarooq traveling through France. The commercial finished off with "aPa -
Cause We Need Beer Money!" Match #3: Eddy Guerrero v. Booker T. This was a Quarterfinal Round Match in the
WPW Intercontinental Title Tournament as "Dead Wrong" by Notorious
B.I.G. sounded over the loudspeakers as Eddy Guerrero made his way out to
chants of "EDDY SUCKS! EDDY SUCKS!"
Then, "Up In Here" by DMX blared over the PA as Booker T came
out to the ring to a large pop from the crowd.
This would be a clash in styles as Eddy Guerrero tried to keep Booker T
on the mat and stayed out of the air for the most part while Booker T is a
deceptively big and powerful man that knows a lot of different unique
maneuvers. The closing moments of the
match would see Booker T go for a Harlem Sidekick but Guerrero moved then
dropkicked Booker T sending him to the outside.
Guerrero then complained about his elbow, holding the referee. That's when CRASH HOLLY ran out with his
scale. Holly would then turn right and
swung the scale into the skull of Booker T.
Crash then rolled Booker T into the ring and walked away with a cocky
smile carrying his scale. Eddy Guerrero
picked up Booker T and would hit a brain buster and went up to the top rope and
came off with the Frog Splash for the one...two...THREE! Eddy Guerrero moves on to the Semi-Finals of
the I-C Title Tournament. WINNER: Eddy Guerrero in 6:53. Rating: *** 1/2 We cut to a dimly
lit boiler room where Vampiro emerges from the shadows to give these
comments... Vampiro:
"Tonight, I get the night off because Billy Kidman and Ken Shamrock went to a draw leaving me the night off but I
almost didn't make it into this position because, Jeff Jarrett, you've
always been a coward and you like using that guitar on people. Well, Jeff it was time someone gave you a taste of your medicine. Some people call me a misfit, an outcast, a freak, and that's all fine but
when this tournament is said and done, if I have things my way, you'll be
calling me champ!" Match #4: X-Pac vs. Rikishi. This was another Quarterfinal round match in
the WPW I-C Title Tournament. "The
Kings" by Run DMC sounded over the PA as X-Pac came out for his second
match of the evening. Then, "This
Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan played and out came Rikishi to a pretty
good pop from the crowd. X-Pac, had
already wrestled once and has a big size disadvantage facing off against
Rikishi in this match while Rikishi was fresh.
X-Pac showed a lot of fight early on but Rikishi's power was too
much. The ending saw X-Pac knock down
Rikishi in the corner with a spin kick then go for the Bronco Buster but
Rikishi caught him and threw him off.
Rikishi got up and X-Pac charged at him but Rikishi picked him up and
hit the Rikishi Driver for the one, two, and three! Rikishi picks up the win! Road Dogg ran out and attacked Rikishi before
he could Banzai Drop X-Pac in the corner.
Road Dogg pounded on Rikishi with the help of X-Pac until Too Cool ran
out and ran them off. WINNER: Rikishi in 4:13. Rating: * 3/4 Match #5: Grandmaster Sexy v. Shane Helms. Grandmaster Sexy was already in the ring
awaiting his opponent as 'Can't Get You Out Of My Heart' played over the PA and
out came "Sugar" Shane Helms.
This was another match in the feud between Too Cool and 3Count. Earlier in the night we saw Scottie Too
Hottie defeat Shannon Moore. This would
be another good match, a little more on the mat then the earlier match but a
good amount of high flying from both men.
The closing moments of the match would see Shane Helms go for a german
suplex but Grandmaster Sexy countered with a go-behind then a full nelson
faceslam. Grandmaster went up to the top
rope and came off with the Hip Hop Drop but Helms rolled out of the way. Helms went up top and nailed the Sugar Splash
on Grandmaster and had a handfull of tights for the one, two, three. Helms quickly left the ring jumping in
victory and doing a little dance. Grandmaster
started in Helms' direction and Sugar Shane bolted for the back. WINNER: Shane Helms in 6:45. Rating: ** 3/4 "Seek And
Destroy" by Metallica blasted through the loudspeakers and the fans cheered as Sting made his way through the
entrance and out to the ring for an interview... Sting: "OWWWWWWWW!
I'm not the type of guy that comes out here and talks for twenty minutes
about nothing just because I like to hear myself talk. I'm the type of guy that when I come out here
and grab a microphone, you people know that it's important and it is. DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE! DDP! The self-proclaimed hardest working man
in wrestling, Page, I've heard your song and dance before and you may be a hard
working man but last week, I came to your aid and what did I get for my
troubles? A Diamond Cutter! Talk about gratitude! You know what, looking at my calender, I
don't have an opponent for WrestleWar 2000 so how about we settle this like men
in the ring, on Pay-Per-View, what'd you got to say to that, Page?" Diamond Dallas
Page appears on the big screen... DDP: "You know what, Sting? We've never been friends and rarely have we been enemies.
I've respected you but if you can't see that it was an accident last week then ... whatever. Oh and I am the hardest working man in
wrestling. My calender's open so Sting,
show up at WrestleWar because you're gonna get BANGED!" The shot of DDP
on the big screen is gone and we cut back to Sting... Sting: "You
want to talk about hard working, since 1988, I've worked my ass off in this
business to get to where I am today and get ready, DDP because at WrestleWar,
it's SHOWTIME!" Match #6: Chris Jericho v. Road Dogg. This was the final Quarterfinal Round Match of the WPW Intercontinental Title Tournament
as "The Kings" by Run DMC brought the Road Dogg out to the ring first
for his second match of the evening.
The lights went down as he counted down from 5 to pyro and "Break Down The Walls" as
"Y2J" Chris Jericho emerged from the entrance.
Jericho made his way into the ring without giving any comments on the microphone. This would be an entertaining match between
two showmanships. After a lengthly
battle of Chris Jericho working over the back of Road Dogg viciously, Road Dogg
would hit his juke'n'jivin' punches on Jericho then signalled for the
Pumphandle Slam. When Road Dogg tried to
pick up Jericho, his back gave out.
Jericho set up Road Dogg and turned him over into the Walls of Jericho
and Road Dogg had no choice but to tap out from the pain! Chris Jericho advances to the Semi-Finals of
the I-C Title Tournament. WINNER: Chris Jericho in 6:56. Rating: ** 3/4 We saw a split screen of Triple H and Ken Shamrock
walking through the back as the Main Event, the No DQ match is next... Main Event: Triple H v. Ken Shamrock. No DQ. "Keep Away" by Godsmack sounded as "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken
Shamrock stalked his way out to the ring then got into the zone. Then, 'ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!' was heard and jeers echooed through the arena as
"The Game" Triple H emerged from the back and made his way out to the ring. With HHH and Shamrock in the ring, the match was set to start when
"Fuel" by Metallica started up over the PA and Billy Kidman made his
way out of the entrance and came down to ringside and joined the broadcast team
as a special guest commentator. Shamrock
and Helmsley went to lock up and Shamrock hit a few punches on Triple H then
went for a roundhouse right but HHH impressively countered it with an
armbreaker. The Game then picked up
Shamrock and pounded on him with rights but Shamrock would hit a kick to the
thigh and sent Triple H into the ropes but HHH came off with a clothesline. HHH
then tried a sleeperhold but Shamrock countered it with a jawbreaker. Shamrock
then locked Triple H in a cross arm scissors but HHH got to the ropes to break
the hold. Triple H pulled himself to the
ring but Shamrock threw him with a takeover suplex. HHH staggered to his feet and Shamrock tried
a leg lariat but Helmsley moved. Triple
H pounded on Shamrock then placed him on the top turnbuckle and executed a big
superplex for a near fall. This match
wore on for quite some time and it was a really good and solid technical
matchup with some brawling mixed in.
Shamrock really proved his worth against Triple H in this one. During the match, Triple H jawjacked at Kidman a few times as he was brawling with
Shamrock on the outside. The
closing moments of the match would see Shamrock try and take down HHH with a
fujiwara armbar but Triple H knocked into the referee. Helmsley rolled out of
the ring and Shamrock went after him smashing his head into the broadcast table
then throwing Triple H over it and sort of into Kidman. Kidman helped Triple H off of him then Triple
H yelled at Kidman and piefaced him.
Triple H then went after Shamrock and whipped him down ringside into
some ringsteps. Kidman folded up his
chair and went after The Game. Triple H
backpeddaled away from Kidman until he bumped into a roadblock in Ken Shamrock. Kidman swung but Helmsley moved and Kidman
hit Shamrock. Kidman was pissed off at
himself then got hit with a clothesline by Helmsley. Triple H rolled Shamrock into the ring and
hit the Pedigree. Triple H made the
cover for the one...two...THREE! Triple H is your winner of this match thanks
to a misfired chair shot by Billy Kidman! WINNER: Triple H in 11:00. Rating: *** 3/4 Triple H had his
arm raised in victory until Ric Flair rushed into the ring and pulled Triple H
around and laid into him with chop after chop on the chest of Triple H. Helmsley escaped out of the ring as Flair let
