WPW Sunday Night on ESPN2! -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- A highlight
package of last weeks action opened up the show then we cut to the opening as
'No One's Real' by Powerman 5000 blared in the background as we saw a logo plastered on the screen reading
'WPW Sunday Night' with the 'ESPN2' logo underneath it. The scene then cut into the arena as
fireworks blasted from the ceiling and the camera panned across the crowd. We then went to the announcers table at
ringside where Scott Hudson, Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone sat. Tonight on WPWSN, Intercontinental Title
Tournament action as the first round concludes, World Tag Team Titles
Tournament action and World Heavyweight Title Tournament action. In the Main Event it will be Triple H facing
Diamond Dallas Page with the winner going on to face "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair at WPW WrestleWar
2000 for the vacant WPW World Heavyweight Title! All that and a whole lot more this week as we
head to the ring to kick off the action... Opening Match: Road Dogg v. Steve Blackman. The opening
match of the show would be an Intercontinental Title Tournament match that also
pitted D-Generation X against The Four Horsemen. "Keep Away [Inst.]" by Godsmack
brought "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman of the Horsemen out to the
ring first. Then, "The Kings"
by Run DMC sounded as DX's Road Dogg made his way out to the ring. The match got underway with the Road Dogg
taunting Blackman and Blackman getting angry.
Road Dogg acted like a big coward in this match as Blackman took it
right to him. The closing moments of the
match would see Blackman hit a savate kick on the D-O-Double G. Road Dogg then grabbed the referee claiming
his head was hurt. That's when X-Pac
came in out of nowhere and hit a top rope spinning heel kick on Blackman. X-Pac bolted as Road Dogg would plant
Blackman with the Pumphandle Slam for the one-two-three! DX has screwed The Horsemen once again and
the Road Dogg advances. WINNER: Road Dogg in 5:11. Rating: * 1/4 "Smells Like
Teen Spirit" by Nirvana blared over the loudspeakers as a Diamond Dallas Page came out of the entrance in jeans
and a T-shirt and did the Diamond Cutter sign as a blast of pyro went
off. DDP made his way into the ring and stood on the turnbuckle looking
out at the people then took a microphone... Diamond Dallas Page:
"You know, last week, I was sitting in my dressing room when first
Triple H came to me and tried to cut a deal with me to take out The Nature
Boy. Then a little later, Ric Flair came
to me and tried to get me on his side but you see, Diamond Dallas Page doesn't
cut corners. I work for the people and
I'm not going to cut corners to get an inch ahead, no, I train hard, I work
harder then anyone to get ahead because that's the way DDP does business. I came here to WPW to prove one thing, to
prove to all these great fans that when they see Diamond Dallas Page's name on
the card, they can expect to be entertained and can expect a fight. So tonight, Triple H, Game-boy, you step into
the ring with a man. I've been through
hell and back and I'll be damned if I'm going to be intimidated or bought buy
anyone, especially a piece of SCUM like you!
You may have D-Generation X but I've got something that you'll never see
coming, the Diamond Cutter and you will feel the BANG!" Match #2: The Acolytes v. Stevie Richards & Blue
Meanie. This next match was a WPW World
Tag Team Titles Tournament match as "Ironman" by Black Sabbath
brought The Acolytes out to the ring first then, Stevie Richards and The Blue
Meanie came out dressed like Acolytes while Bradshaw and Faarooq were not
impressed to say the least. This was the
total annihilation of Stevie and Meanie by The Acolytes as they squashed them
and played around with them for a minute or so until Bradshaw KO'ed Richards
with the Clothesline From Hell for the three count. The Acolytes then would Double Team Power
Bomb The Blue Meanie leaving those two goofs laying as The Acolytes advance in
the tournament. WINNERS: The Acolytes in 2:19. Rating: * Backstage,
Michael Cole attempted to get an interview with D-Generation X but when he
opened the door, it was smashed close in his face! Match #3: Ken Shamrock v. Billy Kidman. We returned to
the ring for another first round match in the WPW I-C Title Tournament. "Fuel" by Metallica brought Billy
Kidman out to the ring first carrying his KidCam along the way. Then, "Keep Away [Inst.]" by
Godsmack sounded as The Four Horsemen's "The World's Most Dangerous
Man" Ken Shamrock made his way out to the ring. This was a clash of styles between two fan
favorites. Kidman likes the fast paced,
high flying style while Shamrock is a grounded shoot fighter. This would be an incredible match that would
go to the fifteen minute time limit draw meaning neither man will advance in
the tournament. After the bell, Shamrock
and Kidman kept going at it as officials had to seperate them. A return match
with these two men will more then likely be signed so we can see who's the
better man. WINNER: Ken Shamrock and Billy Kidman battled to a draw
in 15:00. Rating: **** 1/4 "Smack My
Bitch Up" by Prodigy brought out Screamin' Norman Smiley to the ring for another WPW Intercontinental Title
Tournament matchup as the first round continued. The lights went out and we counted down on the big screen "5...4...3...2...1" then
"Break Down The Walls" played as pyro shot up and "Y2J" Chris Jericho emerged
from the entrance. Jericho had a
microphone in hand... Chris Jericho: "WELCOME TO SUNDAY NIGHT
JERICHO! I'm your party host with the most, the paragon of virtue, the role model, and
the unchallenged ayatollah of rock'n'rollah!
I am the superstar for the new millenium, it ain't Y2K, it's Y2J and for
those of you who don't know me and for my millions of Jericholics around the
world, I am Chris Jericho. Now then,
NORM, maybe it's time you wiggled that thang back to a place where everyone
knows your name because all you're going to be is my bitch! Now it's time for you to get a Y2J beating
you will never eh..eh..ever and I mean EVER, forget ... A-GAIN!" Match #4: Chris Jericho v. Norman Smiley. With that the smug youngster, Chris Jericho entered the ring and his match
with Norman Smiley was on. This would be
a good fast paced match between the youngster, Chris Jericho and the seasoned
veteran, Norman Smiley. Smiley showed a
lot of great mat wrestling and submissions on Jericho while Jericho tried to
keep on his feet and hit lots of high flying, high impact moves. The closing moments of the match would see
Jericho go for the Lionsault but missed.
Smiley then executed his swinging scoop slam. Smiley did the Big Wiggle and sized up
Jericho for the Norman Conquest but Jericho hit an elbowsmash then turned
around and would drill Smiley with a power bomb and turn it right over into the
WALLS OF JERICHO! Smiley had no choice
but to tap out from the pain giving Y2J the win as Jericho advances in the
tournament... WINNER: Chris Jericho in 6:07. Rating: *** 1/4 Backstage, Jeff
Jarrett had these comments before his matchup with Vampiro... Jeff Jarrett:
"Vampiro, you cross dresssing, face painting freak! Tonight, you step into the ring with The
Chosen One, you step into the ring with Jeff Jarrett and tonight, Vampiro, you
step out of your league and I'm gonna take you to school, son. Now choke on that, slapnutz!" Match #5: Jeff Jarrett v. Vampiro. We returned to the ring for our next match
and the final First Round match in the WPW Intercontinental Title
Tournament. After this match the initial
Sweet Sixteen will be down to the Elite Eight or Seven seeing as the winner of
this match will get a BYE to the Semi-Finals due to the DRAW between Billy
Kidman and Ken Shamrock. Vampiro came
out to a green haze and pyro as "Take It" by ICP blared over the
loudspeakers. The fans then jeered as
"Cowboy" by Kid Rock played and out came Jeff Jarrett with a guitar
in hand. Vampiro went right after
Jarrett knocking him to the outside where the two would brawl. JJ got the advantage back for a few moments
until he tried the Stroke but the referee got in the way and got bumped
down. Vampiro hit a spinning power bomb
on Jarrett and tried to revive the referee while Jarrett rolled over and
grabbed his guitar. Jarrett tried to
crank Vampiro but Vampiro kicked Jarrett in the gut and smashed the guitar over
JJ's head. Vampiro then used his Nail In the Coffin as the referee came too just in time to
count the three count. Vampiro will move
all the way to the Semi-Finals via the bye. WINNER: Vampiro in 4:49. Rating: ** 1/2 After the match, Jeff Jarrett was irate saying that
Vampiro has not heard the last of Jeff Jarrett... Match #6: 3Count vs. The Hardy Boyz. Up next, we had a Semi-Final round match in
the WPW World Tag Team Titles Tournament with the winner to go on to WrestleWar
2000 to wrestle for the vacant titles.
When we came back from commercial the lights were out and 3Count
starting "performing" 'Can't Get You Out Of My Heart' until it was
interrupted by "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit as The Hardy Boyz made
their entrance. Evan Karagias exited the
ring leaving Shannon and Shane to face off against The Hardy Boyz. These four men have history, training
together and wrestling together a ton in their early careers but they've all
taken different career paths to get to where they are now. Anyway you package this match or the men
involved, it was a great match. There
were ton of high risk maneuvers and moves that we've rarely ever seen before
and some we haven't. The closing moments
of the match would see Jeff Hardy working over Shane Helms until Evan Karagias
got up on the apron distracting the referee.
Shannon Moore came in and hit the Shannon Slicer on Jeff. Shane Helms went up to the top for the Sugar
Splash but Too Cool had come down to ringside and attacked Evan which
momentarily distracted Helms allowing Matt Hardy to come over and crotch Helms
on the top. Hardy went up to the second
turnbuckle and would hit a modified Twist of Fate off the top rope! Jeff Hardy then came off with the Swanton
Bomb on Helms for the one, two, and three!
The Hardy Boyz move on to the finals! WINNERS: The Hardy Boyz in 8:22. Rating: *** 1/4 After the match, Too Cool high fived The Hardy Boyz then
cleared 3Count out of the ring and did a little bit of dancing as we
headed to our final commercial break.
The Main Event is next... Main Event: Triple H v. Diamond Dallas Page. It was then Main Event time and time to
determine who will go on to face "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair for the
vacant WPW World Heavyweight Title at WrestleWar 2000 live on
Pay-Per-View. 'ONE! TWO! ZIS ON?!' was
heard as 'The Game' Triple H made his way out to the ring to a huge amount of
jeers from the crowd. Then, "Smells
Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana played and the jeers turned to cheers as
Diamond Dallas Page made his way out to the ring. DDP slouched in the corner getting psyched up
for the match then pulled himself out right in HHH's face. The two trash talked back and forth until
Triple H tried to take a shot but DDP blocked it and returned fire peppering
Triple H with shots. The match went back
and forth for the first couple minutes until DDP began dominating for about
three minutes until HHH hit a face buster then laid into DDP. This would be an intense brawl between the
two men fighting it out to take on Ric Flair at WrestleWar. The closing moments of the match would see
D-Generation X's Road Dogg and X-Pac come down to ringside and just watched the
match but looked to be plotting something when The Four Horsemen in full came
down to ringside and began brawling with DX but Road Dogg had slipped HHH a
pair of knux when Sting bolted out into the ring. DDP went to whip HHH into Sting but Triple H
reversed it and DDP crashed into Sting.
Sting shoved DDP and DDP hit Sting with a Diamond Cutter! DDP got up and Triple H booted him in the
stomach and hit the Pedigree... ONE... TWO... ...THREE!
THREE! THREE! TRIPLE H has defeated Diamond Dallas Page and will go on to WrestleWar to face
Ric Flair for the vacant WPW World Heavyweight Title! WINNER: Triple H in 9:50. Rating: *** 1/4 After the match, Triple H raised his arms in victory
until Flair rolled into the ring and shoved Triple H from behind. HHH turned around to see Flair then cowardly
looked around for DX but they were laid out by The Four Horsemen. Snow, Blackman and Shamrock came into the
ring and surrounded Helmsley as Triple H tried to bargain with Flair. Flair responded with a big "WHOOOOOOOOO!"
and let Triple H run off leaving the fear in him. -==-==-==-==-==-==- WPW News & Notes-: -==-==-==-==-==-==- -Before the show went on the air, Bam Bam Bigelow faced
