WPW Best Of The Best 2000

The first annual awards show for World Professional Wrestling entitled 'Best Of The Best' kicked off one night away from Holiday Hell.  Scott Hudson and Jerry Lawler commentated throughout the event while Michael Cole was the host.  There were two different types of awards, the Fan Voted awards and the Wrestler Voted awards...

 

FAN'S CHOICE AWARDS

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

 

-Best Entrance Music-

This was the award for the Best Entrance Music for a wrestler.  The winner voted by the fans for the wrestler having the 'Best Entrance Music' was 'Break Down The Walls' for "Y2J" Chris Jericho.  We were shown the entire video for Break Down The Walls as Jericho accepted the award.

[Runner-ups:] Goldberg's 'Invasion', The Hardy Boyz's 'Break Stuff' by Limp Bizkit, and Masato Tanaka's 'D A N G U N'.

 

-Freedom Of Speech Award-

The Freedom Of Speech Award went to the person that the fans feel is the best 'talker' and most entertaining on the microphone.  The winner of the award was current WPW Commissioner, 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair.

[Runner-ups:] Triple H, Chris Jericho, and Eddy Guerrero.

 

-Most Devastating Finisher-

This award went to the wrestler who the fans feel has the most devastating finishing maneuver.  The winner of the award was Goldberg and his Jackhammer.  Goldberg barely edged out Mike Awesome to win this one.

[Runner-ups:] Mike Awesome's 'Running Awesome Bomb', Chris Benoit's 'Crippler Crossface' and Bradshaw's 'Clothesline From Hell'.

 

-Shocker Of The Year-

This award was for the most shocking or surprising moment of the year.  The award went to Mick Foley being revealed as the owner of World Professional Wrestling.  Foley accepted the award and gloated about screwing the people.

[Runner-ups:] The Elite dumps Chris Jericho and adds Kurt Angle and Ken Shamrock, Kidman retires Ric Flair, and Ric Flair returns as Commissioner.

 

-Most Hated Wrestler Of The Year-

This award obviously went to the wrestler that the fans hate the most in World Professional Wrestling.  The award went to the reigning WPW World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H.  Triple H proudly accepted saying he doesn't give a damn about the fans.

[Runner-ups:] Eddy Guerrero, Kurt Angle, and Kidman.

 

-Most Popular Wrestler Of The Year-

This was the opposite of the last award as this one went to the fans favorite wrestler in WPW.  This award went to Goldberg.  Goldberg thanked his fans for all their support.

[Runner-ups:] Chris Benoit, Sting, and Chris Jericho.

 

That concluded the fan voted awards as we moved into the awards voted on by the wrestlers themselves...

 

WRESTLER'S CHOICE AWARDS

-Rising Superstar Of The Year-

This award is for the wrestler that is showing the most potential to be a bigtime player in WPW or has had a breakout year.  The award went to Kurt Angle.  Apparently the wrestlers themselves feel that Kurt Angle is destined for big things in WPW...

[Runner-ups:] Kidman, Chris Benoit, and Masato Tanaka.

 

-Pay-Per-View Of The Year-

This award went to the show which the wrestlers feel was the best of the year.  The award went WPW International Incident from July 29th in

Vancouver, B.C., Canada.  This show featured Mike Awesome's first match in WPW against a debuting Masato Tanaka.  The formation of the Latino World Order.  Kurt Angle winning the Intercontinental Title from Booker T in a good match.  The Acolytes beat The Hardy Boyz to capture the WPW World Tag Team Titles.  Triple H and Chris Benoit tore down the house in an amazing match.  The Career vs Hair match between Ric Flair and Kidman where Ric Flair's career came to an end.  Mike Awesome assiting Chris Jericho to defeat Goldberg and become the World Heavyweight Champion.

[Runner-ups:] King Of Kings, Breakdown, and Battle Ground.

 

-Feud Of The Year-

This award went to the feud which the wrestlers feel was the most intense and brutal of the year.  The winner of this was Kidman against Ric Flair.  A bloody, intense, brutal, career ending, career making feud between Kidman and Ric Flair.  This feud established Kidman as a legitimate threat to anyone and ended Ric Flair's career.

[Runner-ups:] Mick Foley & The Elite against Goldberg, Jericho versus Goldberg, and The Elite versus Chris Jericho.

 

-Tag Team Match Of The Year-

This award went to the tag team match that the wrestlers felt was the best this year.  This went to the match from Manchester Massacre between Juventud Guerrera and Papi Chulo of the Latino World Order against The Hardy Boyz where The Hardyz regained their WPW World Tag Team Titles.

[Runner-ups:] Hardyz vs. Acolytes from International Incident, Hardyz vs. Acolytes Tables Match from King Of Kings and Hardyz vs. 3Count vs. Too Cool from Aggression.

 

-Match Of The Year-

This award went to the match that the wrestlers felt was the best of this past year.  The field was huge and narrowing down a winner was tough and close but the winner was Triple H versus Chris Benoit from International Incident.

[Runner-ups:] Kidman vs. Ric Flair from International Incident, Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit from Battle Ground, and Chris Jericho vs. Eddy Guerrero from WrestleWar.

 

-Tag Team Of The Year-

The wrestlers voted and chose The Hardy Boyz as the Tag Team Of The Year for 2000.  The Hardy Boyz have been involved in each and every World Tag Team Titles match on Pay-Per-View this year.  The Hardyz are three-time World Tag Team Champions becoming the first champions at WrestleWar, dropping them to The Acolytes for one month and dropping them to the LWO for one day.

[Runner-ups:] The Acolytes, Papi Chulo & Juventud Guerrera, and The Unholy Alliance.

 

-Wrestler Of The Year-

This was the final award of the evening for the wrestler that his peers feel has had the best year in 2000 and was 'The Man' in the year 2000.  The 2000 Wrestler Of The Year would be none other then Triple H.  The two-time World Heavyweight Champion has been the focal point of World Professional Wrestling over the past year and while he is also the 'Most Hated Wrestler', 'The Game' has delivered night in and night out with solid to great matches each time.
