WPW Battle Ground - October 14 / 2000

--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--

Papa Roach's "Snakes" played in the background of a montage of footage hyping up and leading up to tonight's matches.  Al Snow and Steve Blackman have facoused their attacks on Masato Tanaka and while they've cost Tanaka several matches, they've been unable to injure him.  Tonight, the ultra-tough Tanaka takes on both Snow and Blackman in a No Rules Handicap match.  Brian Christopher turned his back on his Too Cool tag team partner, Scotty "Too Hotty" Taylor a few weeks back and aligned himself with Trish Stratus.  Tonight the two former tag team partners face off.  It'll be Six Man Tag Team Warfare as Booker T teams with The Acolytes to gain revenge against Eddy Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera and Papi Chulo of the Latino World Order.  Last month at King Of Kings, Ken Shamrock barely got by Mike Awesome in the Semi-Finals which pissed Awesome off.  Awesome has set his sights on Shamrock and tonight two of the most Dangerous Men in WPW got at it.  The WPW World Tag Team Titles will be on the line in a Three Way Dance as The Hardy Boyz defend against The Unholy Alliance and T&A.  Kidman cost Sting his match with Triple H at King Of Kings and Sting has been looking for revenge ever since.  Kidman dodged Sting for weeks until Ric Flair returned as Commissioner and made the match.  After winning the 2000 King Of Kings, 'The Crippler' Chris Benoit was awarded an Intercontinental Title shot tonight against Kurt Angle.  However, this turned from a title match to a bitter, bitter rivalry over the past six weeks leading up to tonight.  Then in our Main Event, Chris Jericho will defend the WPW World Heavyweight Title against Triple H with WPW Owner, Mick Foley as the Special Guest Referee.  This one of the most interesting matches ever in WPW as Mick Foley was revealed last month as the Owner of the WPW and put together 'The Elite' of Jericho, Triple H and Kidman.  However, the egos of three men caused dissention and break-up after just three weeks together coupled with the returning Ric Flair as Commissioner setting up the match tonight.  All that and more tonight at WPW Battle Ground, live on PAY-PER-VIEW!!!

We entered the arena with fireworks going off as Scott Hudson and Jerry 'The King' Lawler welcomed us to the show and put over the seriousness of tonight's main event speculating on whether Mick Foley will side with either Chris Jericho or Triple H.  They would then send us to the ring to kick things off in the ring...

Opening Match: Al Snow & Steve Blackman v. Masato Tanaka - No Rules Handicap Match.  "What Is Fight Club?" by Dust Brothers sounded over the PA as the team of Al Snow and 'The Lethal Weapon' Steve Blackman walked out to the ring.  Then, 'D A N G U N' blared over the loudspeakers as Masato Tanaka made his way out to the ring.  Believe it or not, it was Tanaka that demanded this 2 on 1 match against Snow and Blackman.  Tanaka entered the ring and Snow and Blackman started double teaming Tanaka in the corner with kicks and punches.  Blackman pulled Tanaka out and went for a savate kick but Tanaka ducked then nailed Blackman with a lariat.  Snow came at Tanaka but Tanaka hit him a few times then picked him up for a Thunder Fire Power Bomb but Blackman kicked Tanaka then hit a snap suplex.  Al Snow dropped a leg and made a cover but Tanaka kicked out.  Snow and Blackman continued to double team Tanaka wearing him out until Snow tried a Snow Plow on Tanaka but Tanaka dropped out and hit chin crusher.  Tanaka followed that up with a northern lights suplex for a two count.  Tanaka worked over both men back and forth until Blackman nailed the Jumping Pump Kick to Tanaka but Tanaka rolled out to the floor.  That's when Kaz Hayashi walked out of the entrance with a microphone and said in broken English, "Screw you ... dipshits!"  The crowd popped at Hayashi's vulgar language.  Then out of the entrance came Tatsuhito Takaiwa and Jinsei Shinzaki behind Hayashi.  The three men ran into the ring and started brawling with Snow and Blackman.  This was a Handicap taste for Snow and Blackman.  Takaiawa would hit his Endless Powerbomb on Blackman while Shinzaki nailed Snow with a savate kick then Hayashi hit him with a Slingshot DDT.  These new Jung Dragons would then leave the ring with Snow and Blackman laying.  Tanaka got back up into the ring as Blackman was getting to his feet.  Tanaka grabbed Blackman and hit the Diamond Dust.  Al Snow then got up and tried a superkick but Tanaka ducked and hit a ROARING ELBOW on Snow then covered him for the one ... two ... THREE!  MASATO TANAKA has won the Handicap Match over Al Snow and Steve Blackman with the unexpected debut of new Jung Dragons along with Kaz Hayashi.

WINNER: Masato Tanaka in 6:03.

Rating: ** 1/4

Match #2: Brian Christopher v. Scotty Taylor.  "Full Of Hell" by Entombed blasted over the PA as Trish Stratus led Brian Christopher out to the ring for our next match.  Then, "Country Grammar" by Nelly blared over the loudspeakers as Scotty "Too Hotty" Taylor made his way out to the ring for this battle of the former Too Cool.  Taylor entered the ring and did a little dancing for the crowd but Christopher jumped him from behind to start off the match.  Christopher pounded on Taylor for a few seconds until Taylor fought back.  The two traded punches and kicks until Christopher gouged Taylor in his eyes then nailed him with a clothesline.  Brian Christopher then went up to the second rope and hit Taylor with a dropkick.  BC mocked Taylor and played to the crowd making them against him.  Christopher choked away at Scotty until the referee broke it up.  Christopher would whip Scotty into the ropes but Scotty came off with a leg lariat.  Taylor followed that up with a springboard dropkick on Christopher for a near fall.  Taylor then would use a gutbuster on Christopher for another two count.  Taylor went up top for the flying cross bodypress but Christopher rolled through for two.  Both men got up and Taylor tried a clothesline but Christopher ducked and hit a reverse neckbreaker.  Christopher followed that up with a Full Nelson Faceslam attempt but Taylor blocked it and countered it with a side russian legsweep.  Taylor headed up top and came off with a splash but Christopher moved.  Christopher would kick Taylor a few times then nail a piledriver!  That got a close two count.  The match wore on back and forth between the two men at an intense pace as the two went at it.  The closing moments of the match would see Christopher hit a liger bomb on Taylor then went up top for the Tennessee Jam but Taylor moved!  Taylor then hit a face jam on Christopher and his eyes lit up for the WORM!  Trish Stratus would slide a chair into the ring then distract the ref as Scotty hit the WORM!  Scotty made the cover but there was no referee!  Scotty got up but so did Brian Christopher.  Christopher hit Scotty with a superkick then pulled the chair into the middle of the ring and hit a PILEDRIVER on the chair!  Christopher kicked the chair out of the ring as the referee stopped paying attention to Stratus.  Christopher went up top and delievered the TENNESSEE JAM!  Christopher made the cover for the one ... two ... THREE!  Brian Christopher has gained the victory over his former tag team partner Scotty Taylor!

WINNER: Brian Christopher in 10:58.

Match #3: Latino World Order v. Booker T & The Acolytes.  "La Raza" came over the loudspeakers as the Latino World Order of Eddy Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera and Papi Chulo made their way out to the ring.  Then, "One More Road" by DMX blasted over the loudspeakers as Booker T walked out of the entrance.  Then, "Ironman" by Black Sabbath brought The Acolytes out to the ring as well.  Faarooq and Juventud Guerrera would start things off.  Faarooq got the better of Juvy until Chulo entered and helped double team on Faarooq.  Juvy continued control hitting kicks and slaps on Faarooq then used a victory roll for a two count.  Juvy attempted a power bomb but Faarooq countered it with a backdrop then made the tag to Bradshaw.  Bradshaw pounded away on Juvy and hit a big side suplex.  Bradshaw followed that up with a kick to the head and a pumphandle slam on Guerrera.  Papi Chulo came in and tried to nail Bradshaw but Bradshaw took him out of the ring.  This bought Juvy enough time to tag in Eddy Guerrero.  Guerrero kicked Bradshaw in the back of the leg then hit a dropkick.  Eddy followed that up with a slingshot somersault senton.  Guerrero controlled for a little bit more until Bradshaw came back with a DDT then made the tag to Booker T.  Guerrero quickly made the tag to Guerrera.  Guerrera nailed Booker T with a spinning leg lariat.  Guerrera went out to the apron and hit a springboard somersault dropkick on Booker T.  Guerrera would then kick Booker T to the outside and distract the ref while Eddy and Papi double teamed on Booker then rolled him back into the ring where Juvy used a german suplex for a near fall.  The match wore on back and forth between the two teams until Papi Chulo and Faarooq were going at it.  Papi went for the Moonsault but Faarooq caught him then hit a shoulderbreaker.  Faarooq made the tag to Bradshaw and the two went for the Stuff Powerbomb but Eddy and Juvy came in and made the save for Papi Chulo.  Bradshaw clotheslined Juventud to the outside while Papi Chulo would backdrop Faarooq out then hit a running somersault plancha.  Guerrero nailed Bradshaw with a low blow then a brain buster.  Guerrero went up top and nailed the FROG SPLASH on Bradshaw but he got up and Booker T came into the ring and drilled Guerrero with the Neckwrecker by surprise.  Booker T made the cover and the referee, who was trying to maintain order on the outside, slid in and counted one .. two ... THREE!  BOOKER T pins Eddy Guerrero and gets the win for his team!

WINNERS: The Acolytes and Booker T in 10:41.

Afterwards, Eddy Guerrero complained to the referee that Booker T wasn't the legal man but the referee said he didn't see or know that so his decision is final.

Backstage:

-We cut to the parking garage where a stretch black limosine pulled up and the driver opened the door.  Out stepped the owner of WPW, Mick Foley.  Foley had a disturbed look on his face as he started walking into the building when a referee's shirt was tossed to him then we pulled back to see Ric Flair.  Foley sarcastically thanked Flair for the referee's shirt.  Flair responded by telling Foley not to thank him since Foley paid for the shirt.  Foley told Flair not to get too cocky then he walked off.  Flair ended by saying he'll get as cocky as he wants because he's Ric Flair, whoooo!

Match #4: Mike Awesome v. Ken Shamrock.  "Awesome" by Reckless Fortune blared over the loudspeakers as the monster known as Mike Awesome stalked his way towards the ring.  Then, "Stress" by Godsmack brought 'The Worlds Most Dangerous Man' Ken Shamrock out to the ring with an intense look on his face.  Both these men are considered the toughest competitors in WPW, Awesome dangerous due to his overwhelming power and agility for his size while Shamrock's dangerous due to his ultimate fighting background and mastery of submissions and street fighting.  Awesome and Shamrock locked up with Awesome whipping Shamrock into the ropes.  Shamrock came off with a spinning elbowsmash that knocked down Awesome.  Shamrock went for a STF but Awesome kicked him off then got up and hit Shamrock with a short lariat.  Awesome followed that up with some brawling.  Shamrock fought back and hit Awesome with a yakuza kick but it didn't knock Awesome down.  The two continued trading shots back and forth until Shamrock used a legsweep to take down Awesome.  Shamrock stomped away on Awesome then sent him into the ropes and went for a leg lariat but Awesome held onto the ropes.  Awesome then nailed Shamrock with a lariat, a kick to the head then a gutwrench suplex before making a cover for two.  Awesome headed up top for a flying shoulderblock but Shamrock dodged it.  Shamrock would hit a DDT on Awesome then lock him in a STF.  Awesome would manage to break the facelock then break free from the hold.  The match continued back and forth with neither men getting the advantage for very long.  The momenteum shifted back and forth between the two men until Awesome tried an Awesome Bomb but Shamrock slid down the back, pulled Awesome's legs from under him then locked him in the Ankle Lock!  Awesome was in the ropes and the referee pulled Shamrock off to break the hold.  Awesome got to his feet and nailed Shamrock with a running lariat.  Awesome set up Shamrock and drilled him with a Sit-out Awesome Bomb!  He would then signal for the Running Awesome Bomb but Kurt Angle came out to ringside and pulled a table from under the ring.  Angle slid the table into the ring then gave the 'It's ok' sign to Awesome.  Angle would set up the table then place Shamrock on the table and tell Awesome to go upstairs.  Awesome obliged and went up top.  Awesome came off with the AWESOME SPLASH but at the last second, Shamrock rolled or was pulled off the table by Kurt Angle.  Awesome would go crashing hard through the table.  Angle rolled out of the ring and was taken to the back by WPW officials.  Shamrock crawled over and made the cover on Awesome for the one ... two ... THREE!  Ken Shamrock has defeated Mike Awesome for a second time.  However, the question is did Shamrock break free from Angle or did Angle pull Shamrock off the table?  The video replay footage was inconclusive as to what happened.

WINNER: Ken Shamrock in 12:30.

Rating: *** 1/4

We would go to the locker room of The Unholy Alliance where Mikey Whipwreck was playing with a fire while Tajiri was yelling at the wall.  The Sinister Minister would have some comments for us...

Sinister Minister:  "Tonight, three teams enter, two teams will lose, one team will be champions.  The risk takers against the powerhouses against pure insanity.  Which team will have enough to outlast two other?  Which team will be able to claim the top spot?  Which two men can claim bragging rights as the best?  Well the answer, my friends, is beyond simplicity, the answer is The Unholy Alliance.  Then again, I could be wrong but I doubt it!"

Ric Flair would walk back into the ring and Kidman tossed him the microphone...

Ric Flair:  "Kidman, as much as I'd like to slap the snot out of you, ya little punk, I'm retired and as Commissioner if I kicked your ass, it wouldn't look very good.  You're right, Kidman, you retired me and you forced me into this Commissioner position where I have the power over you.  So guess what, pal?  You're may not like it but you're gonna damn sure have to deal with it because I'm RIC FLAIR, WHOOOOOOO!"
