NGW Ring Wars - June 24 / 2002

-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-

We opened with a montage of still footage set to "Toxicity" by System Of A Down recapping the major events of last night's Hostile City Showdown.  Rey Misterio Jr. became the first ever NGW World Cruiserweight Champion with a great win over Kaz Hayashi.  'Stone Cold' Steve Austin beat Chris Jericho bloody but Brock Lesnar debuted and destroyed Stone Cold allowing Chris Jericho to win.  And somehow ... someway ... Scott Steiner retained the NGW World Championship.  That brings us to tonight...

"Praise" by Sevendust played in the background of the NGW Ring Wars opening sequence which featured a montage of various New Generation Wrestling superstars such as; Saturn, Too Cold Scorpio, The Sandman, Chris Kanyon, The Dudley Boyz, Taz, The Acolytes, William Regal, Sabu, Eddy Guerrero, Vampiro, Raven, Jeff Jarrett, Rob Van Dam, 'Big Poppa Pump' Scott Steiner, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and more.  This is New Generation Wrestling and this is RING WARS...

Joey Styles and Paul Heyman welcomed everyone to the show as "Breathe" by Prodigy was sounding over the speakers and Al Snow was making his way out to the ring.  Styles and Heyman hyped up tonight's huge Main Event as 'THE HUMAN SUPLEX MACHINE' TAZ will defend the NGW United States Heavyweight Title against ... 'THE WHOLE F'N SHOW' ROB VAN DAM!  Styles and Heyman were then cut off...

["Head Up" by Deftones]

Brock Lesnar stepped out of the entrance and walked out to the ring.  We've seen vignettes hyping the debut of Brock Lesnar for weeks and this NCAA Heavyweight Champion showed up last night and destroyed 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin allowing Chris Jericho to gain the win.  Lesnar jumped up onto the apron then stepped into the ring, staring a hole through Al Snow.  The bell sounded and Lesnar told Snow to bring it on.  Snow came at Lesnar and punched him a few times but Lesnar just shoved Snow down to the canvas and rolled his freaky traps.  Snow charged at Lesnar but Lesnar grabbed Snow and drove him into the mat with a spinebuster.  Lesnar picked up Snow and spinning power bomb!  Ouch!  Lesnar grabbed Snow again and he calls that the TERMINATOR!  The same move that knocked out Stone Cold out!  Snow is out and Lesnar just puts a hand on him for the one-two-three!  Brock Lesnar runs through Al Snow in a matter of seconds.  What a machine!

WINNER: Brock Lesnar in 0:41.

Rating: *

Brock Lesnar kicked Snow out of the ring then...

["Break The Walls Down" by Sevendust]

'Y2J' Chris Jericho stepped out of the entrance with a big bandage on his forehead.  Jericho was taken to school by Austin last night before Lesnar showed up.  Jericho walked into the ring with more arrogance then ever.  Jericho gave the thumbs up to Lesnar then took a microphone...

JERICHO:  "Welllllcooomme .... to a new day!  Welcome to a new beginning ... Welcome to the new reality around here.  What you see standing before is the single most destructive human being that has ever been produced or will ever be produced.  Brock Lesnar is not a monster ... Brock Lesnar is not a machine ... Brock Lesnar is the man you fear, the man your children will fear and the man that will dominate this industry until he gets bored.  And Brock Lesnar is my ... friend!  You see when you're a living legend like Chris Jericho ... When you are larger then life you only associate yourself with people that are larger then life.  Everyone has touted Brock Lesnar as larger than life and who better how to show Brock Lesnar how to be larger than life then Chris Jericho?  When you put Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar together?  You have no choice but to run in fear.  With my knowledge, with my expertise, Brock Lesnar will become a Living Legend just like Y2J.  We will take out whoever we want and we will take whatever we want.  Just ask 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin what happens when you run into CHRIS JERICHO ... and Brock Lesnar!  See Steve Austin thought he was going to destroy Chris Jericho last night but Stone Cold, you should've taken me out when you had the chance.  The fact of the matter is, I kicked Stone Cold Steve Austin's texas redneck rattlesnake ass all over Detroit last night and I'd do it again but I don't think we'll be seeing Stone Cold for..."

["Glass Shatters" by Disturbed]

What?  What?  What?  That's got to be what was running through Jericho's mind as he was cut off in mid-sentence.  'Stone Cold' Steve Austin walked out of the entrance pissed off.  Austin didn't think twice as he ran into the ring and went right after Jericho!  Austin is fearless! Austin takes down Jericho and hammers away on Jericho with rights.  Brock grabs Austin, manhandles Stone Cold and throws him into the corner.  Austin looks around then charges at Brock with rights.  Jericho nails Austin in the back and Brock levels Austin with a lariat!  Jericho's yelling instructions to Brock.  Lesnar picks up Austin and TERMINATOR!  Austin's down and out!  Jericho slaps on the Walls Of Jericho for added insult!  What a jackass!  NGW officials rush out to pull Jericho off.  The officials go at Brock but Brock flinches and they all back off.  Jericho calls off Brock, satisfied with the damage done to Stone Cold.  Chris Jericho may have pulled off the greatest move in the history in wrestling by getting Brock Lesnar on his side...

We returned from break to see some highlights of Stone Cold being dismantled yet again by Lesnar and Jericho.  Styles and Heyman again hyped up our Main Event of Taz defending the NGW U.S. Heavyweight Title against Rob Van Dam then sent us to the ring for action...

Match #2: Sabu & Devon Storm v. Chris Kanyon & Scott Vick.  "Little Crazy" by Fight blared over the speakers as Bill Alfonso led 'The Human Highlight Reel' Sabu to the ring.  "Terrible Lie" by Nine Inch Nails blared over the speakers as his partner for tonight, 'Dangerous' Devon Storm headed out.  Then, "Immune" by Godsmack blared over the speakers as The Flock's Chris Kanyon and 'Sick' Scott Vick made their way out to the ring.  Devon Storm and Sabu earned each other's respect so they didn't seem to have any problems teaming together here tonight.  In fact, Sabu and Storm complimented each other very well in the ring and worked nicely as a team.  The ending would see Vick go for a suplex but Storm blocked it and spiked him with a brain buster for the one ... two ... Kanyon breaks up the count!  Kanyon stomped away on Storm, Sabu came in after Kanyon.  Sabu tried to send Kanyon over the top but Kanyon landed on the apron and pulled Sabu down by his hair.  Storm then flipped over with a sunset flip power bomb to the floor on Kanyon!  Vick drilled Sabu with a knee then hooked him up for the Cure but Storm slipped back in and planted Vick with the Mind Bender fort he one ... two ... THREE!  Devon Storm pulls off the pinfall to take the win in this tag team match against The Flock.

WINNERS: Devon Storm and Sabu in 5:21.

The Coach got some comments from the new NGW World Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Misterio Jr.

MISTERIO:  "Coach, it was a great match last night and it really could have gone either way.  I think all the fans out there found out just what the Cruiserweight Division is all about and what it takes to be the World Cruiserweight Champion.  I'm gonna put this out there right now, I'll put this title on the line against anyone at anytime.  Just to prove that, one night after Kaz Hayashi took me to the limit, I'm gonna out there and defend my title against Low Ki'.  And I want all the fans out there to know that win, lose or draw, whenever you spend your money to see Rey Misterio Jr. wrestle, you'll get your money's worth."

Low Ki' - NGW World Cruiserweight Title.  "Ashes To Ashes" by Madd One blared over the speakers as the NGW World Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Misterio Jr. headed out to the ring.  Then, "Boom" by Soulfly blasted over the speakers as Low Ki' made his way out to the ring.  Low Ki' has been proving himself week in and week out here as, win or lose, as one of the most dangerous Cruiserweights in wrestling.  Low Ki was looking to take advantage of the fact Misterio is just 24 hours removed from an absolute war with Kaz Hayashi.  Low Ki brutalized Misterio with hard kicks and strikes in this one.  The ending would see Misterio go for a Tornado DDT but Low Ki threw Misterio off then drilled him with a hard kick to the face.  Low Ki covered Misterio for the one ... two ... THR ... NO! NO! Misterio got a shoulder up!  Low Ki slammed down Misterio and headed up top.  Low Ki came off with a Phoenix Splash but Misterio rolled out of the way!  Misterio headed up top but Low Ki hit the ropes, crotching Rey Jr.  Low Ki backed up all the way across the ring and came in with a handspring enziguiri kick to Misterio!  Misterio fell down off the top in pain!  Low Ki called for the end and picked up Misterio for the Ki Krusher but Misterio counters out with a rana for the one ... two ...   Vampiro is shown in the medical room getting his ankle looked at by a doctor...

VAMPIRO:  "What's the diagnosis?  Can I wrestle tonight?"

DOCTOR:  "I'd really rather you stay off the ankle for another week or so."

All of a sudden, Jeff Jarrett enters the room...

JARRETT:  "What's the matter, slapnuts?  Is the freak afraid to face The Chosen One tonight?  Huh?  Are you getting the doctor to get you out of the match tonight?  You know you don't want any of Jeff Jarrett tonight."

VAMPIRO:  "Afraid?  Of you?  I don't think so.  You know what, doc?  Tape the damn ankle up 'cause I've got some ass to kick tonight!"

JARRETT:  "You think you can kick my ass?  Why don't we make it a Street Fight and let's see who kicks whose ass tonight?!"

VAMPIRO:  "Bring it on, Jarrett.  What's that saying you use?  Choke on that?  You'll be choking on your own teeth tonight!"

We then went to a graphic hyping up tonight's big Main Event as two of the most popular men in NGW collide.  'The Human Suplex Machine' Taz defends the NGW United States Heavyweight Title against 'The Whole F'n Show' Rob Van Dam...

Match #4: Jeff Jarrett v. Vampiro - Street Fight.  "Cowboy" by Kid Rock blasted over the speakers as 'The Chosen One' Jeff Jarrett headed out to the ring carrying two guitars.  Then, "Kong At The Gates" by The Misfits sounded over the speakers as 'The Dark Angel' Vampiro limped out to the ring.  Vampiro was a little tentative getting in the ring with Jarrett yielding two guitars but it's a Street Fight so anything goes.  Jarrett said he brought one of his guitars for Vampiro.  Jarrett tossed it high up in the air to Vampiro but as Vampiro looked up, Jarrett tried to drill Vampiro with his guitar but Vampiro side stepped it and went for a roundhouse kick but Jarrett ducked and broke his guitar over Vampiro's ankle!  Jarrett started tearing the tape off of Vampiro's ankle and going to work on it.  Jarrett worked over Vampiro's ankle for a couple minutes.  The ending would see Jarrett go for a figure four leglock but Vampiro cradled him up for the one ... two ... THR .. NO!  Vampiro kicked Jarrett in the gut then went for a suplex but his ankle buckled, Jarrett dropped down the back and planted Vampiro with the Stroke for the one ... two ... ["I Need A Freak" by Too $hort]

The NGW World Champion, 'Big Poppa Pump' Scott Steiner walked out of the entrance with his favorite freak Midajah.  Steiner overcame the challenge of Taz, Vampiro and Eddy Guerrero last night in a Four Corners Elimination Match to retain the World Championship.  Steiner took the microphone...

STEINER:  "BIG POPPA PUMP IS IN THE HOUSE ... but Shawn Michaels isn't!  The so-called Heartbreak Kid is runnin' scared of the largest arms in the world.  I've given Shawn Michaels fair warning that Big Poppa Pump is comin' after him.  A lot of people are saying Big Poppa, why are you picking on a man with a broken back?  I don't care if Shawn Michaels had a broken back, if he's breathing, he's fair game.  Even in his prime Shawn Michaels wasn't big enough, he wasn't strong enough, and he wasn't smart enough.  In his prime, Shawn Michaels wouldn't stand a chance against a great athlete like myself.  The only reason Shawn Michaels was ever succesful was because he never ran into a genetic freak like me.  Shawn Michaels is a hasbeen ... Shawn Michaels is washed up and in my mind, Shawn Michaels is a never was.  Shawn Michaels couldn't even take the place of one of my freaks and if Shawn Michaels shows his face in an arena again, I will put him in a wheelchair!  That's not a threat, that's a promise!"

Match #5: Juventud Guerrera v. Taka Michinoku - World Cruiserweight Title Shot @ Summertime Showdown.  "Size Em Up" by Big L blared over the speakers as 'The Juice' Juventud Guerrera headed out to the ring.  Then, "A Touch Evil" by AC/DC blared over the speakers as Taka Michinoku.  Juventud Guerrera and Taka Michinoku haved traded pinfalls in tag team matches over the last week but tonight it was one on one with a coveted shot at the World Cruiserweight Title at Summertime Showdown in a few weeks.  Guerrera and Michinoku battled it out in a hard fought match.  The closing moments of the match would see Taka go for the Michinoku Driver but Juvy countered it with a rana then a spinning leg lariat.  Juvy headed to the top and came off with the 450 Splash but Michinoku rolled out of the way!  Taka hit a springboard dropkick for the one ... two ...   We returned from break and Saturn was in the ring with a microphone...

SATURN:  "Raven ... What can I say?  You did it again, somehow you beat me again!  I'm sick of tag matches, I'm sick of The Flock, I'm sick of you and all I want is one more match and I want it now!  Come on Raven!  Show some backbone for once!"

["Come Out And Play" by Offspring]

Raven walked out of the entrance with a microphone...

RAVEN:  "Saturn ... sometimes it's not who you fight that's most important, it's what you fight for.  What's in it for me?  What about me?  WHAT ABOUT RAVEN?"

SATURN:  "How about this ... If you can beat me, one-on-one, no help from The Flock, no help from anyone ... I WILL LEAVE NGW!"

RAVEN:  "Now that is something to fight for ... But when you're forced to leave, just remember ... it didn't have to be this way, if only you would've listened to me Saturn.  But alas, your career must come to an end.  So it was written, so it shall come to pass ... Quote the..."

SATURN:  "Just shut the hell up, get your ass down to this ring and let's fight!"

Match #6: Raven v. Saturn - Saturn Leaves NGW If He Loses.  Raven took off his jacket and headed down into the ring.  Raven stalled a bit then locked up with Saturn.  Raven got a hammerlock but Saturn wasn't interested in wrestling.  Saturn drilled Raven with a few elbows then threw him out of the ring and went out after him.  Saturn hammered on Raven on the outside then went for a clothesline but Raven hit a drop toehold on Saturn, sending Saturn's face into the ring steps.  Raven rolled Saturn back into the ring and went after him.  Raven and Saturn brawled it out with Saturn literally fighting for his proverbial life in NGW.  The ending would see Saturn go for a flying elbowdrop but Raven rolled out of the way and hit a russian legsweep for the one ... two ...   We cut to a shot of Taz exiting his dressing room with the title around his waist and a black shredded towel over his head.  We then cut to Rob Van Dam leaving his dressing room and stretching out with his usual smug demeanor.  The Main Event is next...

Main Event: Taz (c) v. Rob Van Dam - NGW United States Heavyweight Title.  "WAR MACHINE" blasted over the speakers as the NGW United States Heavyweight Champion, 'The Human Suplex Machine' Taz walked out to the ring.  Taz stood in the corner with his arms crossed, waiting for his challenger.  Then, "Walk" by Pantera blared over the speakers as 'The Whole F'n Show' Rob Van Dam headed out to the ring.  Taz is coming off of the Four Corners Elimination match last night where he last until the end but thanks in large part to Eddy Guerrero, Taz got power bombed on the World Championship and pinned.  Still a great showing for Taz as he almost became a dual champion.  Rob Van Dam overcame Jeff Jarrett's attempts to ground him and took a big win.  Taz and Rob Van Dam are two of the biggest fan favorites in NGW so the crowd was torn between them.  Taz and RVD didn't dissapoint them, beating the hell out of each other over the United States Heavyweight Title.  The closing moments of the match would see Van Dam go for a spin kick but Taz ducked and dumped Van Dam with a High Cradle Tazplex for the one ... two ... Taz locks his hands but OH MY GOD!  TAZMISSION-PLEX! TAZMISSION-PLEX! OH MY GOD!  Van Dam landed right on his head and he's out!  Taz makes the cover but the referee is out of it too!  Eddy Guerrero is out ... Guerrero to the top and comes off with a Frog Splash but Taz rolls off Van Dam and Guerrero connects with a Frog Splash on Van Dam!  Taz drills Eddy with a clothesline!  Taz locks Van Dam in the Tazmission!  Van Dam is still out ... the referee comes over, checks Van Dam's arm and calls for the bell!  Taz has retained the U.S. Heavyweight Title!

WINNER: Taz in 14:40.

Afterwards, Taz walked off with his United States Heavyweight Title while Van Dam started to get up, holding his neck in major pain.  Van Dam refused the referee's help, rolled carefully out of the ring and left the ring, barely, under his own power.  There's only one man that can take that type of punishment and still get up and that's Rob Van Dam...
